She was in the city of kings and queens. People were sipping champagne and eating strawberries and cream. And Serena Williams had just ascended to the throne of tennis, becoming the second woman after Steffi Graf to win all four Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold in singles.
Over the previous 63 minutes on the hallowed grounds of Wimbledon, Williams had absolutely obliterated the Russian superstar Maria Sharapova. Shed death-stared down the blonde, leggy Barbie doll, sending lasers down the line, making Sharapova lunge all over the court, hitting left when Sharapova was running right, and then, with a 120-mph ace, secured her Golden Slam and her place in history.
Then the 30-year-old who will end her career as one of the greatest tennis players of all time did something that could be interpreted two ways: As a stupid and insensitive celebration that dampened the crowning moment, or as a joy-filled nod to her roots.
The woman who grew up in Compton did the Crip Walk.
For the uninitiated, the Crip Walk is a funky little hip-hop dance move made famous by Crip gang members in Compton in the 1970s.

You can take the girl out of Compton, but not Compton out of the girl.

Don't watch Serena any more...too many histrionics.
She is a drama queen.....her sister, Venus, is a class act.

Yeah, WTF with that? I just want to know what a crip walk looks like. Have I seen it and just not known what it was? I guess I will just have to wonder...

Here is a world class athlete who has been in the business for a very long time.....and “she didn’t know what she was doing”?
I guess she felt, at this point in here career, having won every imaginable major tennis title that she had the “flexibility” to ......stick it to the man!!!

I don't care where you're from. I don't see anything wrong with dancing for joy after winning a Gold. Yeah, she's from Compton - what did you expect her to do, curtsy?

She danced, so what? The world is going into its own death and you are upset over a dance. How trite can you get?

"...as Americas national anthem played, the winds of Wimbledon struck down the American flag from its awning. The crowd gasped. Serenas eyes got big, and she giggled...It was probably flying to come hug me because the flag was so happy. That should earn her an invite to the White House sometime before November.

And?
Tennis is filled with the sounds of women grunting like water buffaloes struggling to get out of a mud wallow on every serve - I don't think Williams' little dance is going to break the majesty and dignity of the occasion. I personally don't care for the way Williams has attacked officials in her matches, but picking on her for doing a little dance after she wins gold in the Olympics is ridiculous.

Unless the red she is wearing on her forehead is part of a required uniform the author is mistaken. Red is the color worn by the crip’s rival gang the “bloods”.
Geez, I guess it wasn’t a crip dance after all.
