ATLANTA (AP) — When President Barack Obama said same-sex couples should have the right to marry, it was national news for a few days before the presidential campaign and the country went back to business as usual.
Yet weeks after a fast-food executive doubled down on his opposition to gay marriage, debate rages on about equality, religious values and free speech. "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" on Wednesday, with supporters flooding the chain's franchises around the country, was countered with "kiss-ins" by same-sex couples at assorted locations Friday, long after Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy's initial comments to a religious publication touched off the clash.
That's an unusual amount of staying power for what initially looked like just another skirmish over a hot-button question.
Coursing throughout the conversations on social media, in letters to the editor and in long lines to buy chicken sandwiches is the sense among proud Southerners that the outcry over Cathy's comments smacks of regional stereotyping. When public officials in Boston, Philadelphia and Chicago tell a Southern icon such as Chick-fil-A that it's no longer welcome, and that Cathy should keep his opinions to himself, many in the Atlanta-based chain's home region hear more than a little northern condescension.
"Maybe the reaction is just because we're Southerners," said Rose Mason, who was lunching Friday at a Chick-fil-A in suburban Atlanta.
Mason, who described herself as Christian, said she grew up in New York City. Now, she said, "I deal with my sister telling me we're a little backward. People have this idea that we're just behind on everything. So they view anything we say through that (perception)."
Cathy, a devout Southern Baptist whose family has always been outspoken about its faith, sparked the controversy...

I love the equating of a massive record breaking sales day Wednesday with the non event of a ‘kiss in’. One, the action of hundreds of thousands, the other the action of hundreds.... Maybe.
We can have literally thousands of people show up hour after hour, and the DNCp will describe it in terms like this:

Makes it sound like a rather equal showing on both sides.
Never-mind that only a small group of 'kissers' showed up for an hour or so at just some locations, and that we had literally thousands or multiple thousands showing up at almost all Chick-Fil-A locations from open to close.

We witness government officials with personal associations to the current Administration attempting to use the coercive power of their offices to limit the right of freedom of individual enterprise for a United States citizen, trample on his First Amendment right of freedom of expression, and his free speech and freedom of religion, and the writer of this "report" reduces the matter to a petty North/South thing!

They absolutely have. Their kissin’s won’t last as long as our hunger and wallets will.
But, bet your bottom dollar they will up the ante and go for the gold to get splashed all over the news.
If they confront me while I’m ordering, eating or otherwise minding my own business I’m going to ignore them no matter what they do.
Come election day the lies end and reality enters in.
Their numbers are more like 2%-5% at best. Even with the gay supporters, and there are numbers, they are such a small numbers that the rest of us need to realize that it is not the vast amounts of gay people in this country but who they and their supporters are: academia, politicians, Hollywood AND media.
In other words, they own our schools, our elected officials, our choice of entertainment and our information providers and they lie to us in telling us that we should give them everything we want.
Those of you with teens or even younger strong-willed children, can attest to their belligerence and even forceful demands to get their own way. If you are consistent in keeping the adults in charge in your homes, you know that these offspring do not give up but that doesn't mean that giving in makes life easier.
Not so, it only strengthens their resolve and their demands become more forceful in the future and life with a little dictator in your home is unimaginable.

When I went by our local unit on Wednesday, I purposefully showed up at 2:45pm, and the place was mobbed. I wanted to see what the atmosphere was like at a time you’d normally think of as down time. There were 12 to 15 protesters on site, but they were outnumbered at least 10 to 1, and our side was replenishing their numbers every fifteen minutes.
That twelve folks had been there for hours.
A line on Friday evening, might be something you’d normally expect. I am glad to hear that your local store was getting a lot of business though. If this holds up, Chick-Fil-A may actually permanently double their income.

Nowadays everything has to be categorized. All the business people I associate with that are from the east coast or north east consider fried chicken and watermelon to be southern food, along with chitlins, greens, cornbread and grits. Lots of people try to compare CFA with KFC or think it’s the same. I grew up in Kansas and we had fried chicken, potato salad and watermelon for Sunday dinner all summer long. I didn’t realize that I was a southerner when I lived up there.
Of course fried chicken is something also associated with Black people, farmers and the rest of us poor uneducated folk. It’s just so crazy and pointless.
I agree. What will take place though, is that the DNCp will tone it down weeks before the election, so they don’t look completely idiotic when the election takes place.
Of course they hope they can create enough buzz, that they won’t have to. This year they will have to.
We need to help this thing to stay alive with zero repeating his support for homos till election day. It will cost him some votes.
