President Obama explained to a group of supporters in Ohio this afternoon that more government investments in infrastructure would help the economy grow again. Pointing out that if government continued to invest in roads and bridges, it would put more money in people’s pockets to spend. “That’s how we grow our economy.” Obama said, “If we’re investing in roads and bridges, putting some hard hats back to work, getting our steel workers back to work, they got some more money to spend, maybe they buy a new computer, maybe they decide to take a little vacation.”

After 45 years designing and building both private and public infrastuctures in my corner or the universe I know several things as fact.
Infrastructure is an onoing obligation of a healthy society (check out the Palestinians,) both the construction and maintenance thereof. Roads and bridges are a critical component.
Federal and State fuel taxes were instituted to address that ongoing need. That need has been criminally mismanaged and robbed for many decades now.
Politicians have been robbing those revenues to fund social engineering and growing the parasite classes.
The solution is not to increase taxes.
Just return the existing taxes to the purpose for which they were created.
Not rocket science.
Translation: Government paid infrastructure = Union jobs and political slush contributions from forced union dues.
He's not trying to grow the economy, he's trying to maintain full employment for union construction workers and corrupt democrat-affiliated construction companies.
The actual number of people employed by building roads & bridges is quite small. If you want to employ a large number of people doing this, you need to shut down the bulldozers and use shovels and horse drawn wagons.

Many moons ago I was foreman on a job and one of the Superintendents came by and asked me why I was using a particular machine (Gradall) when 2 huge front end loaders would be available in the morning. I explained I was just trying to fill out the day and utilize the trucks I had.

And where is this money coming from, our taxes, and who pays these taxes. Over 40% of the population pay no taxes so who is paying for these people to build roads and bridges, the other 60% of the population, what a joke.
