A study from Ancestry.com has determined that President Obama is related to John Punch, the first black African enslaved for life in America--which would make Punch the 11th great-grandfather of Obama.
The connection is made through Obama's mother, Stanley Ann Dunhan. The website's records say she had ancestors who were white landowners in Colonial Virginia who descended from an African man, Punch.
According to the site's press release, Punch tried to escape indentured servitude in colonial Virginia in 1640 and was punished by becoming enslaved for life. The records show that Punch had children with a white woman, and her status as free was passed on to her offspring. Punch's descendents became successful landowners in the slave-owning state of Virginia.
This would mean that the first documented slave and the first African American president have a shared lineage, claim researchers. Said Ancestry.com's genealogist Joseph Shumway, "John Punch was more than likely the genesis of legalized slavery in America. But after centuries of suffering, the Civil War, and decades of civil rights efforts, his 11th great-grandson became the leader of the free world and the ultimate realization of the American Dream."

Obamas connection to Punch is similarly inconclusive, Shumway said. Researchers were able to use DNA evidence to track Obamas lineage to a group of white landowners in Virginia. Historians know Punch fathered children with a white woman who passed on her free status. Those children grew up to become landowners in Virginia.
Pretty flimsy, if you ask me.
Hmm. My ancestors were white landowners in Virginia... I think I need a drink.
That was through the Frank Marshall Davis line, his REAL father’s family, right??

Obama still is not natural born.
,,,,,, are you sure they aren’t confused ,,,, maybe they ment to say that he has “slave owner” blood in him .
Just a personal experience w/Ancestry.com for whatever it may be worth....when the issue of Obama’s heritage first came up and before it became any kind of prominent issue anywhere, I was naive enough to figure that could easily be solved by Ancestry.com where I had been doing some of my own family research. Also, back then I am not sure I even knew why it mattered. Ancestry.com at that time gave Obama’s birthplace as Kenya and I don’t recall the other family info it gave but I saw no need to copy or print that info as I assumed I could easily access it again. It was easy enough that time. That was wrong. The next time I attempted to access the information, my computer hard drive crashed! The computer was maybe a couple of years old...no prior issues of any kind....just a random thing? Maybe but as I noticed the issue popping up more frequently coupled with our local GOP’s refusal to even engage in a conversation about what seemed to me to be a simple issue and the media either refusing to address or if they did it was by ridicule, let’s say I became less trusting of any information on that website. It was some time before I had the courage to access the information again which by that time had changed to reflect his birth in HI. Does anyone know who runs Ancestry.com? Snopes and FactCheck were “outed” some time ago so would be interesting to find any connections.
People who reject this load of horseStalin, demanding to see “paperwork” proof, will hereby be named “slavers”. After all, they gotta be somekinda bigots to not be in total awe of The One.
LOL! My ancestors were white slaveowners in Virginia. I better check my records. This idiot just may owe me for 40 acres and a mule.
“The fact is that most indentured servants in those days were white.”
I have proof my ancestors from the 1700’s were indentured servants. Can I get reparations?
“Amazing the lengths the Radical Socialists will go to keep their pawn in office.”
We saw the same thing with Clinton. Remember the announcement claiming conclusive DNA evidence that Thomas Jefferson sired children with his slave Sally Hemmings? Of course the media failed to tell the rest of the story:
1) Jefferson’s daughter was his only descendent. Male “Y” DNA does not carry through female descendants so there is no way to extract Tom Jefferson’s DNA from his descendants.
2) Due to #1, the researchers used Y DNA from male descendants of Jefferson’s male relatives to match to the DNA from the Hemmings descendants. This scientific “projection” only proves one of roughly 50 Jefferson males visiting Monticello at the time could have fathered Hemmings’ children. In reality, the DNA evidence at the OJ trial was more conclusive proving OJ was the murderer than the Jefferson/Hemings DNA proved Jefferson sired children with Sally H.
3) The DNA evidence was conclusive in proving that the branch of the Hemmings family tree providing the best oral tradition of Jefferson descent was not related to the Jefferson family.
However, the Jefferson story detracted from the impeachment trial which was its intent. The Democrats will use anything to deflect the attention of the public.
The story that I heard on Glenn Beck, a few years ago, was that Casor was brought to the colonies by a White guy ( I don’t remember the name) and ran away, along with two other white indentured servants. The three men were caught and punished by the White guy, but the punishment for the Black indentured guy was worse than for the two white guys. The white guys got a couple of years added to their contract, while the Black guy’s contract was extended for life and was sold to Anthony someone.
Anyway, the only transcript that I could find on Beck’s web site tells a slightly different story, so who knows. It’s odd that there were two stories at the just about the exact same time in the same place, that were so similar.
