HOUSTON Ted Cruz is on the cusp of a win in the Texas Republican Senate runoff that would shatter conventional campaign wisdom and elevate him as one of the brightest stars of the tea party generation.
Even some of his aides concede privately they never thought it could happen.
Yet in the closing days of this dead-of-summer contest in a sprawling superstate, Cruzs flinty campaign had all the trappings of a celebration, with the 41-year-old constitutional lawyer being feted by the countrys most prominent conservatives, including Sarah Palin, Rick Santorum and Sens. Jim DeMint and Rand Paul.
Were on the 2-yard line. We have marched the entire length of the field. We started out up in the hot dog stands, Cruz joked Friday evening in a suburban park where hundreds flocked to see Palin. But we are facing a battle to push it those final two yards. Do the grass roots matter? This race is the test for that proposition.
Despite being outspent more than 3-to-1, having never run for office and being tasked with penetrating the Lone Star States 20 media markets with virtually zero name recognition, Cruz is well positioned to upset Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst Tuesday. Its a scenario that would send shockwaves through the political elite and embolden the thousands of conservatives from across the country who have descended here to help push him over the finish line.

Tea Party in Texas is not dead, just not following many of the “self claimers of leadership” and we are back to silent majority. Tuesday should be a great morale booster.
I voted for you!
Absolutely. That's the main thing that turned me off about him.
WOO-HOO!
You betcha, he’d best live up to her endorsement and Jim DeMint’s as well!
LOL. You didn't!
This will tell you a lot about David.

I hope we have learned to unite next time and not get played, by the divide-and-conquer scenario again. There has to be a point found in a primary at which we agree to survive together and not be hanged separately, one at a time, until we have a socialist running a Republican ticket. Very disturbing that the GOPE remained mute and hid their wallets until the impoverished conservative contenders were bled out and finally slandered out of the race, so the four year collector of big money could float to the top. Sickening really.
Amen to all that, FRiend!
If William Bennet said that, he needs to hang it up. If McCain said that, I would expect no better. He shoulda been given the boot, too.
If I were a Dewherst ally and believed those things, I’d keep my mouth shut until all the votes were counted. Even then, I wouldn’t say such a thing in that way.
Why do supposedly savvy people just blab like that?
I hate when our guy is ahead.... Too many think that a reson not to got. You know, the ‘he’s got it’ mentality.
Vote!

Vote!
Good grief, could not stand my typos!
I'll dedicate my vote for Cruz on Tuesday to you :-)
I certainly will NOT vote for Cruz on Tuesday.
Because I voted for him last week.
I voted for Cruz early, just once, though.
Glad I can. he's one of the few bright spots from a conservative point of view this year for me. Otherwise, I'd be mightily tempted to sit the election out for the first time in my adult life.
Senator DeMint (R-SC), Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)”
They were all in Texas in teh final days to campaign for Cruz. This was a great team effort by Conservative Republicans and we are goign to see victory on Tuesday!!!
Thank you very much, my sweet!
God bless you! I’m so happy he’s getting your vote!
