In 2004, as Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney banned the sale of assault weapons like the one used to spray 50-60 bullets a minute in the Colorado massacre.
On FOX News, Romney explained his position as follows:
"I believe the people should have the right to bear arms, but I don’t believe that we have to have assault weapons as part of our personal arsenal."
That seems like a perfectly reasonable position, no?
(Seriously: Do we really need to be able to buy and own these things? Is that really in the best interests of our society? Really?)
Unfortunately, in the intervening years, Romney has flip-flopped and now supports the sale of assault weapons like the one used in the Colorado massacre.
But the families of those who were shot and killed in the theater can presumably take some comfort from the fact that Romney was against these guns before he was for them.

Perhaps hundreds of millions of people live in freedom because of him. Having the luxury or knowing all that Reagan had done, had he been a Mormon, you would not have voted for him, would you? If not, that is a pretty sad commentary on you and bigotry. As a Catholic, I am not threatened by Romney's religion. I am, however, threatened by his policies with which I greatly disagree. That should be the argument. Mormons whom I have known in my life have been pretty much decent people who raise good, respectful kids. Are Jews acceptable to you? Buddhists? Hindus?

Sometimes I would have to disagree with that comment. I do not mean there will be no 2016 because of the Mayan calendar or that kind of nonsense. It was poetic license for the real effect Obama will have on this country if he is in charge for four more years. We are at a tipping point where the number of takers just about equals the number of taxpayers who supply them with goodies. You have seen Obama’s recent back door amnesty. With the stroke of a pen, he is going to legalize 5 million more democrat voters. With him unrestrained by the burden of worrying about another term, he will use executive orders and PDDs as we have never before seen. He is going to continue his war on private enterprise. He is going to allow Iran to have nuclear capability. He loathes the Constitution as a flawed document and has figuratively urinated on it.
Given the chance, Obama and the RATS are going to fix the country so that conservatives are not going to have any voice or any chance of capturing the presidency. He will shut down dissent as being hate speech at such sites as FreeRepublic. He will finally do what the RATS have wanted to do for many years -— use the FCC to shut down conservative talk radio by requiring equal time for dissenting programs. Three hours of Rush on WABC will have to be followed by three hours of Randi Rhodes or Ed Schultz. That will destroy the station and it will turn to playing the hits of Mexico.
