PHILADELPHIAAsk Americans how race relations have changed under their first black president and they are ready with answers. Ashley Ray, a white woman, hears more people debating racial issues. "I know a lot of people who really thought we were OK as a nation, a culture, and now they understand that we're not," she says.
Karl Douglass, a black man, sees stereotypes easing. "White people deal with me and my family differently," he says.
Jose Lozano, who is Hispanic by way of Puerto Rico, believes prejudice is emerging from the shadows. "Now the racism is coming out," he says.
In the afterglow of Barack Obama's historic victory, most people in the United States believed that race relations would improve. Nearly four years later, has that dream come true? Americans have no shortage of thoughtful opinions, and no consensus.

So yes. Race relations have improved. Why, we're just crapping rainbows and skittles.
The word “racist” has been so overused and worn-out that it now has about as much semantic content as “poopyhead”.
Hispanic isn’t a race. Philly is a sh**hole.
Every time I turn around, somebody in the Obama administration is saying that you are racist if you are this or that. How can race relations advance while this kind of crap is going on. I am trying to forget about race and the administration keeps reminding me.
Obama has done for race relations as Weed-B-Gone has done for horticulture!
I used to be interested, today, I really don’t give a damn.
Is this a serous question?
“prejudice is emerging from the shadows”
No, moron, not “emerging.” It is being fomented by the left on purpose and by whiners like you inadvertently.
I’m so tired of these charges of racism that, what the heck, I’m just going to go with it.
I suppose the author forgot the sarcasm mark
My concern about race has completely vanished. I’m quite color blind now. When I see lazy, shiftless members of the criminal class hanging around in urban centers, I express my disdain for them no matter what race they happen to be. I don’t hold back a bit.
Race relations have never been worse, and it can all be laid at Obama’s feet. It began with Holders refusal to prosecute Black Panther thugs for intimidating voters. The left has slung the word racist at anyone who criticizes Obama and his policies, firing up the hate mongering and race baiting to new levels, even for poverty pimps.
Obama is a hard core racist and has no concern at all for equality.
His admnistration is a dictatorship founded on racial favoritism.
He has made a mockery of the senate and congress and wipes his feet on the constitution.
He is putting in place policies that make every taxpayer a wage slave for a black leisure class and the black dominated ruling class of government employees.
As a member of a mixed race family, I can assure you that Hussain has made it much more difficult.
Race relations have been put back 200 years since obama has taken office.
Jose is right, the racism is coming out.
Eric Holder - we will not prosecute black people for hate crimes.
Black flash mobs regularly raid stores, public transportation, and public events like WI’s state fair attack on whites.
Blacks hurling racial epithets at whites more and more.
Illegal foreign aliens screaming at American citizens during amnesty parades that they are invading the country to create Atzlan.
Yup, Jose, the racism sure the hell is coming out. And the minorities are the racists.
There is nothing wrong with being prejudice. Prejudice is based on something e.g. Jesse Jackson crossing the street upon seeing three black youths. This is based on disproportionate crime statistics of black youth.
Bigotry is not based on a rationale.
Racism is bigotry with a race element.
On the money.
Since Zero’s rise to power, blacks think they own the country now.

Well, I dunno. Whenever I see a black person now that I do not know, my first thought is Obama voter (kinda like when you see a chick with those “I’m a liberal” glasses. Also over the last 10 years, I’ve learned through the media that black people can’t possibly be expected to pass even the easiest of tests. Probably the first thing I learned was from Jesse Jackson himself when there was some big fight at a football game at some highschool somewhere causing the participants to be expelled because of zero tolerance (which in general is the most braindead policy ever enacted. But Jackson said on national television that zero tolerance was some kind of conspiracy against african americans...which presumably infers that a bunch of white administrators got together in some room somewhere, to plot how to get rid of black students, and knowing full well these students were incapable of behaving in any kind of civilized manner, came up with this rule specifically to get rid of them.
So you tell me. On another note I do have a humorous story. I’m working in the bad part of indiana (gary), and rather than make a long drive, I ate close to home at a restaraunt I kind of like. I’m sitting at the bar, reading FR on my phone as I often do, in my own world, when this black guy sitting next to me (note: I am the ONLY white guy in this very busy establishment) suddenly sais to me...”Dude, you need to get out of here while you still can”...my oblivious serenity shattered, I look at him and say “Holy s***, what’s going on?”. He sais, “about 2 dozen kids just walked in, it’s about to be a madhouse”...I set down my phone, and had a hillarious conversation lasting 3 more beers

Obama doesn’t know much, but he does have the “honor” of being the is the foremost “expert” on “Critical Race Theory (CRT). CRT contends that racial bigotry is so profoundly embedded in our culture that our legal system and Constitutional principles, cannot remedy racial problems. He concludes from this that we should do away with the Rule of Law and equal treatment under the law.
