Dick Cheney has some advice for Mitt Romney on choosing a running mate: Don't pick another Sarah Palin.
In his first interview since receiving a heart transplant in March, Cheney told ABC News, that John McCain's decision to pick Palin as his running mate in 2008 was "a mistake" - one that it is important from Romney not to repeat.
It's subject on which Cheney has some unique experience. He helped Presidents Gerald Ford and George W. Bush lead their vice presidential searches and, of course, served as vice president for eight years. He's also privately offered some advice to both Romney and Beth Myers, who is leading Romney's search for a runningmate, on the process.
Cheney would not comment on what he told Romney and Myers, but he was harsh in his assessment of McCain's decision to pick Palin.
"That one," Cheney said, "I don't think was well handled."
"The test to get on that small list has to be, 'Is this person capable of being president of the United States?'"
Cheney believes Sarah Palin failed that test.
"I like Governor Palin. I've met her. I know her. She - attractive candidate. But based on her background, she'd only been governor for, what, two years. I don't think she passed that test
of being ready to take over. And I think that was a mistake."

Palin wasn’t the mistake, McCain was. Palin would be a MUCH better president than that RINO weasel. She was the breath of fresh air in an otherwise horrible campaign.
Cheney’s wrong on this!
But she has delivered more for the GOP to date than many other “ well experienced” alternatives
How can the GOP win in 2012 when so many peoplr are still stuck on 2008?
Did Republicans ever win an election by rehashiny the poor treatment that was given to Dan Quayle years earlier?
Hillary huh? Well I can say about her is I know several people both offline and the Internet who were Major Hilary supports, then after the Dem's ditched her they were lured into Conservatism by Sarah and are too this day, some of her strongest supporters.
Those are great Pictures NGZ! You are so pretty and have wonderfully Blue Eyes. Did you have too pay to be their or where you on some sort of committee?
Thank You soooo! Much for sharing!
Nice pictures..

Did the media continue to attack Quail...No....He was no longer a threat....But Sarah is a different story.IIRC 90% of the people she has supported have won.
It was campaign director Steve Schmidt that failed the McCain campaign; not Sarah Palin.
“Tricky Dick at it again. between him and GWB, I dont know who did more damage to the GOP.”
karl rove.

SOMETHING is a foot. Palin is very suave politically....... It ain't over folks!........ MOOOOchelle hasn't sung!
I hope you are correct. The fate of the USA is hanging by a thread.
Romney will not lose any Romney votes by selecting Palin as his Vice President, but he would gain 50 Million pro-Palin voters.
Without Palin, Romney might get 25-30 Million pro-Palin voters -- just on the anti-Obama sentiment -- but probably not enough to win this election.
Yes, if Sarah is the VP-nominee, it will be downright nasty, vicious, violent, and ugly through September and October -- just like any other Civil War -- but we will win.
A mistake from which the GOP has learned exactly and precisely nothing.
Without Palin, Romney might get 25-30 Million pro-Palin voters -- just on the anti-Obama sentiment -- but probably not enough to win this election.
Doubtful. Palin's strength would probably be in states Romney would carry anyway. In swing states, Palin might cost him nearly as many voters as she brought in.
Sarah has been storing her political point. No need to use them with higher powers until her trophy is offered. OTOH those who owe her, numbers have continued to grow. The money made by the Palin projects have allowed the family to gather more points...even within the enemy camp.
IMO To ignore what she would bring to the ticket would be suicide. Who else would bring an organized national force with them?
NGZ you have amazing integrity and devotion to our Conservative Cause, I pray that yours, ours, and Sarah's hard work is rewarded.
You are just like Sarah Palin, leading the way!
Thank you for asking me to share! It was SO much fun! I had NO idea my town had a conservative group.
While we were all waiting in our “room”, I went around and started talking to everyone. To my shock, there were 4 men, from my town, who were part of the conservative group!!
I hung out w/ them the whole time. They invited me, and my sister (FReeper nothinglefttolose) to their Christmas party at our local VFW.
That’s where I met Gene Cook, who is now our towns Councilman.
Check out this link...

NY DOES suck, but our little town of Huntington is still mostly conservative.
Yes! Audit your local government, expose the corruption! That is how we stick it to the Democrats!
Is the rest of Long Island Conservative? I know California FReepers tell me Orange Country is suppose to be and it has been absorbed by Los Angeles.
Sarah Palin seems comfortable in her role as a non-candidate who makes endorsements in select races across the country.
It seems she has moved on. Maybe we should also.
One step at a time. When I moved here forty years ago all political offices were held by D. In some races no R would even run...In 2010 every single race was won by an R candidate. This race there are six positions already decided because there were no Ds on the ballot.
Thank you Hill/billy and Obumah and CowObumah!
