In an interview, House minority leader Nancy Pelosi said that she believes Republican Jews are "being exploited," but she was sure to add, "And they're smart people."
Pelosi made the comments in response to whether Jewish voters would support President Barack Obama in the presidential election later this year.
"I think [Obama] will" win the Jewish vote, Pelosi said, when pressed on the subject. "I think that he will, because the fact is when the facts get out. You know, as many of the Republicans are using Israel as an excuse, what they really want are tax cuts for the wealthy. So Israel, that can be one reason they put forth."
The interviewer then added, "Thats why some of the Republican Jewish supporters are really active."
Pelosi responded, "Well, thats how theyre being exploited. And theyre smart people. They follow these issues. But they have to know the facts. And the fact is that President Obama has been the strongest person in terms of sanctions on Iran, which is important to Israel. Hes been the strongest person on whether its Iron Dome, Davids Sling, any of these weapons systems and initiatives that relate to Israel. He has been there over and over again."
The interview was conducted by Bloomberg's Al Hunt.
Note: William Kristol: "Pelosi: President Obama's Been to Israel 'Over and Over Again.'"
***I think that he will, because the fact is when the facts get out.***
What in the world is she saying? It’s a non-complete sentence full of mumbo-jumbo. She thinks that if she delivers a bunch of important-sounding phrases with a pompous air that she’s then answered the question.
I'm not sure what she's saying there, but I think she means that those selfish, greedy, rich Jewish Republicans are only interested in tax cuts for themselves, so they tell poorer Jews to vote Republican because it would be better for Israel.
Doesn't make much sense, but then again, that's nothing new as far as Pelosi is concerned.
And needless to say, "tax cuts" in her lingo means maintaining the current rates.
Jackie Mason is one of those rare comics who can make a real statement about an important serious issue, such as the one you cited, and retain a bit of humor in it.
Mason, BTW, is a very solid Jewish conservative, judging from what I've heard from him.
When has Nancy Pelosi ever made sense?
Sure sounds like that to me. How else can it be interpreted? And I think it is how it will be interpreted. Add in the 'they are smart' condescension and it's an amazing gaffe.
Yes, he is. He occasionally writes columns on conservative topics for THE AMERICAN SPECTATOR.
Democrats and the mainstream media believe only they can perceive what is and what is not bigotry; it’s why they came up with the dog whistle theory on the subject of code words used for racism.
Nancy is void of all reality. I will bet she lies to even her family. I am sure they are looking to put her away soon.
I wish she were standing right in front of me so I could laugh in her face.

“Pelosi really is loathsome. Her comment is offensive on at least two levels. First, it is plainly racist, without her knowing that it is. Second, it reveals that she has a deeply ingrained plantation mentality, that is, she considers herself the mistress of the plantation with the moral right and authority to tell all else who they are and what they should be thinking.”
Yep
Yes, they’re cunning and shrewd and money-grubbing are old stereotypes of Jews. Pelosi is skating on thin ice with these comments.
These are anti-Semitic stereotypes. The next logical leap is “Jews control x, y,z” “Jews are to blame for x,y,x”.
Dealing in stereotypes is dangerous business. A look back at Germany and France in the 30’s and 40’s and to the Muslim world today tells us all we need to know.
Thanks for pointing that out. I almost missed it myself.
These people (ha!) deal in stereotypes because they are not clear thinkers and assume everyone else is stupid, too.
99 days to go, and foot in mouth disease is going viral!
