Sea Shepherd captain skips bail in Germany
Telegraph - UK ^ | July 26, 2012 | Matthew Day

The US-based Sea Shepherd group said Paul Watson had left Germany for an "undisclosed location". It is thought the captain, who handed his passport over to German authorities when he was arrested in May, may have exploited the Schengen zone to travel to France or the Low Countries.

German authorities detained Captain Watson following a request from Costa Rica. The Central American country claimed that his behaviour during an incident on the high seas in 2002 had threatened the safety of the crew of a Costa Rican fishing vessel.

The Sea Shepherd has also been involved in number of violent confrontations with Japanese whaling vessels, and last year three members of its crew were held on board a Japanese ship after boarding it to deliver a letter protesting against the whale hunt.

He and his crew are little more than Pirates, taking the law into their own hands, and attacking ships of sovereign nations on the high seas.

Yes, and "Animal Planet" being a subsidiary of Discovery Channel makes them both complicit in funding and supporting these terrorist acts.

I watch Whale Wars just to root for the Japs.

I have a theory about how the show is filmed/taped/whatever. They put all the dweebs on a boat (any boat, it doesn’t matter). For a full week, they roam the boat with a camera and keep walking to one or two dweebs at a time. They announce “We just got a message that your dog has been run over and is dead.” Then they tape the dweeb’s open-mouth reaction.

They create thousands and thousands of these reactions — various dweebs looking horrified.

Then all they do is shoot a few hours of life aboard the real ship — various snippets of the helicopter taking off and landing. A jap ship off in the distance. A whale. A guy talking on the radio. A dweeb looking through binoculars at nothing in particular.

Then they just splice all the video pieces together and make up story as they watch the result. They add dramatic music any time they show a dweeb looking horrified. That’s it! That’s all it takes to make a TV show these days.

I do to! I watch for the “FAIL!” moments and the looks on their faces when it happens.

That said, I think Japan does have a problem with their “research” hunts..

Not much research going on there I’d bet.

More than Pirates. Now that he has fled, add "Cowards" to the adjectives.

No, not much “research” being done by the Japanese. Turns out these whaling activities are simply “stimulus” projects. There is not enough demand for whale meat to justify the costs, so the Gov’t is subsidizing them.

You mean some people watch whale wars and don’t cheer for the Jap ships?

As a former Sailor, I find much amusement with their crew.

It’s almost as funny as South Park....almost.

Ha...me too. They are such screw ups. I like when they steered the boat into the ice field. Then they acted like it was so brave and it was only through their superior seamanship that they were able to escape. What kind of a moron deliberately enters an ice field? Also when they ruined the helicopter blades because of their ineptitude. And at the end of the day, some rich liberals (ie Bob Barker) give millions of dollars to these morons just so they can through stink bombs and perhaps tangle the whalers propeller.

I was clicking through the channels and caught the one where they were trying to sneak up on the one whaling ship and the crew stuck ou poles and were flailing them around.

Conched one of the libers on the head and the rest of the people in the rubber boat had the “I can’t believe they just did that” look on their faces.

I’m hoping one of these days the whalers play turnaround and use two ships to drag a cable under the SS.

This is hilarious. There is definitely European-wide extradition, and they will put out an Interpol alert for him.

The end result is like escaping from jail while serving 60 days. If they capture you, escape is a felony.

It’s not surprising he wants to save whales. They’re family.

Scuttle that self-righteous tub of guts.

I am pretty sure the Bob Barker has a hull rated for ice..

So running in to the ice did give them an advantage.

If they where smart (and they are not) they would invest in a larger engine and steeper pitch prop so they where faster than the japs..

it’d add some excitement at least..

If they where REALLY smart...

They’d get one of them aero planes with big fuel tanks.. That way instead of motoring around for months on end looking they could cover a lot more ground and find the ships faster and maybe even avoid the harpoon ships..

Well there is law that says the Japanese are not to be fishing for whales in their santuary, only the Japanese pays everyone off to not enforce existing law.

If the laws were changed your point about Pirates and that could be valid, but at this point not so.

I hope Watson suffers Jonah’s fate!

I doubt that the great fish could keep Watson in his belly three days before vomiting him up.
