From the article and vidlink: ...a full video of the Centre Daily Times' nearly 30-minute interview with PSU president, Rodney Erickson, interim athletic director, Dave Joyner, and Board of Trustees chairwoman, Karen Peetz. Significant topics of interest are at the following approximate times on the video: NCAA sanctions, 1:10; Consent decree with the NCAA, 2:25; Paying the $60M fine, 5:25; Ticket refunds, 8:45; Players deciding to leave or stay, 9:25; Reactions from donors, 11:15; Fairness of sanctions, 12:45; Paterno's legacy, 17:20; Statue removal process, 19:45; Freeh report, 22:10; Board member resignations, 24:25; Hiring of senior administration positions, 24:50; Penn State football culture, 25:55.

The bold-faced portions are those within the video interview which I thought were of more interest:

1. Ticket refunds (@ 8:45 clip in video): No...Penn State players CAN leave Penn State minus penalty; but Penn State ticketholders are stuck.

2. Consent decree with the NCAA, 2:25; Paying the $60M fine, 5:25: Penn State was given the simple choice: Accept the decreed sanctions, or face the death penalty with potential ADDITIONAL sanctions on top of that! 'Twas an offer they couldn't refuse! (BTW, they assure that NO taxpayer funds would be used to pay the fine...they said first the $ would come from a reserve fund...then for future years, they may have to hold off on some capital maintenance expenditures...and obviously, it would impact the budget the football program receives...finally, they said an internal bond where they could temporarily borrow from other monies within the Penn State budget that would be financed -- paid back with interest)

3. Statue removal process, 19:45: The presidential council rep (Rod Erickson) explains the reasoning behind that...including campus safety issues.

4. Penn State football culture, 25:55: There was an acknowledgment that the Penn State football culture got too big; there was a recognition from the Penn State AD (Dave Joyner) that what went on there over the past 15 years was "unprecedented" and therefore the unprecedented sanctions matched that. There were commonly cited references to a new "transparency" and need for internal "accountability" that's been (duh) lacking on campus.

Sports Illustrated headline: 'An unprecedented failure of institutional integrity'

Yup...covered under NCAA Bylaw 2.4: The Principles of Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct. For intercollegiate athletics to promote the character development of participants, to enhance the integrity of higher education...

Epic failure there.

The Sports Illustrated cover posted in this thread only tells part of the story. The critical point overlooked is that Penn State prided itself on making the institution a fertile ground for homosexuality. That, of course, led to the depravity of Jerry Sandusky and the coverup by Joe Paterno.

Here's the deal, tho:
College campuses have oft' fallen all over themselves "making the[ir] institution[s] a fertile ground for homosexuality."
For example, several have for years offered "minors" in homosexual studies; others have been more hell-bent in catering to sexual encounters 'tween homosexuals; still others have been "admin-heavy" in promoting homosexual identity administratively.
Yet despite all this, we haven't seen those campuses catering (yet) to serial child rape.

You can argue that one follows the other...and that may be so...but it doesn't necessarily follow. Right now...evidence-wise, the "correspondence" doesn't -- as of yet -- "make" your case.

Bullsh*t

Sandusky's ennabler was "homosexual friendly" Graham Spanier, and everybody in and out of Happy Valley knows it just like they knew about Sandusky.

IT’S HIGH TIME L/E NAILS EX-PS PRES SPANIER FOR PROTECTING SANDUSKY’S WELL-KNOWN NEFARIOUS ACTIVITIES NBC news reported Emails uncovered by investigators suggest Spanier colluded with PS’s former Senior VP for Finance and Business, saying it would be “humane” to Sandusky to NOT alert authorities, NBC news reported.

COMMENTS Even left-leaning college administrators are starting to have second thoughts about the excesses of “gay-friendly” atmospheres on campus........these pedophile-havens have held numerous “homo-sensitivity training” sessions on campus......(read indoctrination).

Penn State prez Graham Spanier-—is a “human sexuality scholar.” How this guy got to be a college prez with that degree is amazing. SPANIER actually held what he called a “C***fest” on campus and installed a special tent just to indoctrinate WRT homo sex practices.

Spanier is out as PS prez-—but he and his wife are still on the PS payroll as tenured profs. Spanier also advocated wife-swapping——could be the reason why M/M Spanier are still getting paychecks-—they must have some hair-raising stories to tell WRT group sex play on the PS campus.

SPANIER CONTROLLED MILLIONS IN STATE AND FEDERAL EDUCATION GRANTS L/E needs to determine the extent of PS’s federal, state and local govt grants which emanate from an assortment of govt entities.....that might have covertly subsidized pedophile activities.

Besides the DOE, grants could have been issued by the EPA and DOJ for various campus projects——including monies private Foundations from a variety of private charitable organizations AND funding from more traditional sources, such as corporate and private foundations. The majority of attention given to today’s Freeh Report has centered on figuring out Joe Paterno’s role in allowing Jerry Sandusky to go unstopped. But the most actively nefarious character—other than Sandusky himself—in the commission’s story is former university president Graham Spanier. Even before today’s news, experts had suggested that Spanier’s actions could be brought before a grand jury. Here are ten of the more reprehensible plot points from the Freeh Report, many of which support the notion that he could face criminal charges:

<><> Testifying to the 2001 grand jury he was unaware of the 1998 investigation against Sandusky, even though emails from 1998 show him discussing the investigation with athletic director Tim Curley and university vice president Gary Schultz.

<><> Repeating this claim to the Special Investigative Counsel, and stating he “never heard a report from anyone” that Sandusky was abusing children.

<><> Failing to notify the Board of Trustees that an investigation of a prominent assistant football coach was underway, withholding this information from them even while the board was considering (and approving) a favorable land deal between the university and Sandusky’s Second Mile charity.

<><>Approving and pushing for Sandusky’s emeritus rank—and the facility access privileges that came along with it— despite Sandusky not qualifying for it by the established academic rules.

<><>Declaring Curley’s plan to suggest Sandusky stop hanging around children, without actual sanctions, to be “a humane approach” rather than contacting outside authorities to investigate suspected abuse.

<><>Telling the Special Investigative Counsel his first knowledge of the 1998 incident came at the April 2011 grand jury appearance, when notes from his Attorney General interview a month prior reveal he was questioned about it then.

<><> Approving an unprecedented $168,000 lump-sum retirement payment to Sandusky in 1999.

<><> Showing no interest in identifying the child involved in the 2001 incident or ascertaining whether or not a crime had occurred.

<><> Opposing any and all independent investigations into Sandusky’s behavior.

<><> Modifying the November 2011 Board of Trustees statement without their knowledge or approval, asserting that Curley and Schultz requested administrative leave rather than that the board had actually decided to place them on leave.

Sorry, but no.

If Joe Paterno had told Spanier to tar and feather Sandusky and ride him out of town on a rail, Jerry would still be picking down from his ears.

The whole point of this madness was that the football program was in control of the University- and Paterno was in control of the football program. Witness Spanier and Curley being thrown out of Paterno's house when they asked him to retire.

As for Spanier, he'll be indicted by another grand jury in the near future, but by no means was Spanier Spandusky's primary enabler.

I think that’s where the real bad stuff is going to come out.

You run down a long list of things that Spanier did. You realize, don't you, that Paterno did most of those things as well?

For example, Paterno testified under oath to the 2001 Grand Jury that the only person he spoke to about McQueary's disclosure was Athletic Director Tim Curley.

That's a lie, because we also know Paterno spoke to Gary Schultz.

Paterno testified that he spoke to Curley only the one time, he his home.

That's a lie, according to the emails and memos disclosed by Freeh.

Paterno testified that he didn't know if any official at Penn State other than Curley found out about the 2001 shower incident.

That was a lie, because Paterno knew Schultz and Spanier found out about the incident.

Paterno lied to the grand jury about his knowledge of the 1998 incident.

***

I could take almost any other one of those bullet points and show how Spanier wasn't the only one of the Big Four (Schulz, Churley, Paterno, and Spanier) involved in it - and that many of those points appear to have begun with somebody other than Spanier.

Spanier deserves to be in jail.

However, we're playing apologetics to place the blame on Spanier and lift it away from Paterno, Schultz, and Curley.

Oh get over it. Graham Spanier was President of the University in control of budgets, curriculum, personnel from 1995 to 2011. Paterno controlled the football program but not other program's budgets, curriculum, or personnel. And he certainly was not responsible for the homosexual friendly curriculum and personnel that provided cover for Sandusky.

Sandusky no longer worked for Paterno after 1999, but he was working for Spanier due to the padded retirement agreement that Spanier gave him.

Witness Spanier and Curley being thrown out of Paterno's house when they asked him to retire.

Wow -- the audacity to do that to a god, unless it's being done by one who considers himself more powerful. If Paterno controlled the university, then what made Spanier and Curley think that they could force his resignation??? Hmmmm?

You run down a long list of things that Spanier did. You realize, don't you, that Paterno did most of those things as well?

Read it again. That was someone else's great work that I simply cited.

For example, Paterno testified under oath to the 2001 Grand Jury that the only person he spoke to about McQueary's disclosure was Athletic Director Tim Curley.

I wasn't aware that there was a Grand Jury empanelled in 2001. I thought it was all covered up???

That's a lie, because we also know Paterno spoke to Gary Schultz.

So then was it a good or a bad thing that he also told Schultz???

Paterno testified that he spoke to Curley only the one time, he his home. That's a lie, according to the emails and memos disclosed by Freeh.

Were any of those emails written by Paterno??? Can you post them???

Paterno testified that he didn't know if any official at Penn State other than Curley found out about the 2001 shower incident. That was a lie, because Paterno knew Schultz and Spanier found out about the incident.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing that he found out that Schultz and Spanier knew????

Paterno lied to the grand jury about his knowledge of the 1998 incident.

What evidence do you have that Paterno knew about the 1998 incident other than the "Coach" email???

Spanier deserves to be in jail.

And yet he is still a protected species at the university, just as Sandusky was, and we know that it isn't Paterno doing the protecting. So then who or what is really protecting these guys???

How disappointed I am. And I thought you would like to defend your post #6 yourself by answering the following question:

What do you think contributed most to Sandusky’s proclivity for molesting young boys — his years as a football coach or his years as a homosexual???

I don’t have enough life history of sandusky to assess...obviously with people who misdirect their sexual appetite, it can go askew in a variety of directions...we do know that sandusky held camps at numerous other campuses in PA — and one in NJ...and that he used his “coach face” as a venue for exploitation....I am still waiting for “other shoe” to drop...younger one-time victims from other parts of state who will emerge when they get older

How surprising. Why should that stop you??? You seem to be able pop off about Paterno without enough of his life history.

he used his “coach face” as a venue for exploitation.

It wasn't his "coach face" that was the crime. It was his homosexual molestation of these young boys on a campus run by homosexual activist Graham Spanier.

You know, it's a WHOLE lot easier to discern what one person didn't do -- in Paterno's case report what he heard an eyewitness tell him -- than what Paterno & his assistant coaches did do in their life histories.

I don't have to know what Paterno or Sandusky all did...to offer the type of commentary I've mentioned...I just have to know what Paterno didn't do in protecting at least one little boy.

<>You know, it’s a WHOLE lot easier to discern what one person didn’t do — in Paterno’s case report what he heard an eyewitness tell him — than what Paterno & his assistant coaches did do in their life histories.<>

Yeh — he didn’t not listen to McQueary, he didn’t not contact his superior Tim Curley the Athletic Director to report the incident, he didn’t fire McQueary for telling him, he didn’t tell Curley not to tell the the head of the Penn State University Police Department Gary Schultz who with Curley then met with McQueary, both of whom lied to the Grand Jury in 2011 and have been indicted for perjury and failure to report child abuse, while no charges were brought against Paterno. The Grand Jury heard his testimony and believed him as corroborating McQueary, and brought charges against the other three.

You seem to forget that had it not been for Paterno corroborating McQueary’s testimony before the Grand Jury in 2011, Sandusky might still be out there showering with little boys. The Grand Jury believed McQueary and Paterno, that they told the truth and that they did their duty in reporting the incident to their respective superiors, and corroborated each other.

But the Grand Jury indicted Curley and Schultz who were at odds with Paterno and McQueary. To the very end in front of the Grand Jury they insisted that McQueary reported that it was just “horseplay” in the showers. And homosexual apologist and President Graham Spanier, after the charges came to light, “issued a statement in which he said Curley and Schultz had his unconditional support” and that they
they “operate at the highest levels of honesty.”

What??? No “unconditional support” from Spanier for McQueary and Paterno??? Just for Curley and Schultz who were disagreeing in the Grand Jury with McQueary and Paterno???It was Spanier, Curley, and Schulltz who to the very end were covering this up. When Paterno announced a press conference to tell what he knew, Spanier as President of the University ordered him to shut it down.

When McQueary was asked why he didn’t report it to the police, he said he did. He reported it to Schultz who was the head of the PSU Police Department. Schultz was THE POLICE. Why would Paterno or McQueary think that once the head of the Penn State University Police Department knew of this incident, that something wouldn’t get done with it???

Why would they think that Schultz would bury it??? The cover-up to the very end was Sandusky ennablers Curley, Schultz and homosexual lifestyle promoter Graham Spanier.

Bottom line is that the Grand Jury believed Paterno. I’ll go with the Grand Jury on this one where they differ from the Freeh Report.
