I have watched Fox News since 1998 and have seen alot of ups and downs with Bill O'Reilly, but tonight's talking points memo of "The Factor" were so full of falsehoods and misconceptions that I need the banglist gang to write in to this pinhead.
O'Reilly's talking points was on the 2nd Amendment, Guns, and Murder. He generally made some good points on the purpose of the 2nd Amendment and the fact that gun control doesn't work. However he went WAY off the reservation and bought into the liberal journalist LIES of the misconceptions between legal, semi-automatic firearms, and their fully automatic, highly regulated (and even restricted) military counterparts.
Here are his quotes:
1) "Anyone who sells a heavy weapon or ammunition should be compelled to report the sale to the FBI".
This is completely false. First there is no such thing as a "heavy weapon" reporting criteria. Every Federal Firearm License (FFL) holder must conduct a FBI NICS check on all transactions of Title 1 firearms.
2) "Some gun dealers do background checks, but NOBODY reports the sale of heavy weapons like the AK-47, to the feds".
Another completely false statement. ALL gun dealers are required to do background checks via the FBI's NICS system. Only those with concealed firearms permits, or doing an NFA transfer don't get the call (because they have already been "checked out"). If the firearms is a Title 2 firearm under the National Firearms Act of 1934 (machinegun, suppressor (aka silencer), destructive device, short barrel shotgun, short barrel rifle, or Any Other Weapon (AOW)) then the purchaser has to pay a $5 or $200 transfer tax, submit complete, perfect ATF forms, fingerprints, pictures, and get their local law enforcement officer to sign off. After the administrative prerequisites are met, the ATF does a background check and will issue a tax stamp and list the legal registered user in their NFA database after about 6-8 months.
3) "Terrorists could move in here and buy bazookas and the FBI doesn't know about it"
My wife and I about fell out of our chair when he said this....yes, he said it! The statement is so ignorant and emotional that I am suprised that it made it past his staff, whom is usually good at research.
As you can see, Bill is bluring the line between true military assault rifles, and their civilian, semi-automatic clones...a very clever and effective, yet dishonest tactic perpetrated by anti-gun forces. I am starting to think that the liberals may not ban semi-autos with another "Assault Weapon Ban 2", but something more sinister such as re-defining firearms into the NFA and reclassifying all firearms as "destructive devices" and subject to all the NFA red tape.
There is precident for this: Streetsweeper and USAS-16 shotguns were reclassified in the past and they are now contraband unless you went through the Form 4 process and transfer taxes paid to ATF.
Anyways....I'm trying to formulate a pithy response without losing my temper, tact, or candor.
Why does anyone watch this bloviating fool? He’s a member of MSU—Makes Stuff Up.
He is what I call a “practicalist;” he simply CANNOT think on an abstract, theoretical level. All practicalists shun “thought systems,” and take every issue as a separate, non-connected, NON-CONTEXTUAL puzzle to be solved by their brilliant brains, NOT relying on anything that has come before their brilliant intellects or anything that exists outside their brilliant intellects. These people inevitably vote for Jimmy Carter, and then Reagan, and then the kenyan piece of filth, etc. That kind of “thinking” leads to intellectual confusion that boggles the mind.
O'Reilly is only the most blatant due to his "heavy weapons" bleating.
I've started three ripostes today and had to abandon each one due to rising bile and a failure of niceness.
Will try again later, maybe more a bludgeon than a riposte....Don't want to let the Bang List down
Never said I watched him, or listened........: )
"Now the hard right will blah blah blah.... while the hard left will blah blah blah...but I think the moderate reasonable thoughtful non-partisan solution would be blahbitty blah blah...yeah superior me, lookin' out for inferior you...you're welcome."
This doesn’t surprise me too much. I finally gave up on him a couple months ago.
I heard O’Reilly and thought the same thing. He simply did not have the facts, and his opinions were that of a leftist. I think O’Reilly wants to be politically correct.
I watched most, but not all of his show tonight, and didn’t hear anything about the passing of Sally Ride, which seemed an important story to me.
I’ll apologize if I’m wrong.
People don’t need assault rifles to rack up a body count. Here is proof.

This ass is as stupid as they get. I do record his show but only usually watch about 10 to 15 minuted. The rest I muted. Don’t even know why I bother.

I haven’t watched his trash for over a year. However, because you bothered to put up this thread, I will send the arrogant a$$ a short note, knowing full well that it will not do any good.
At best, I watch Hannity and Greta, but nothing else on Faux. I was once a Fox addict.... they killed that this election cycle.
I have gotten to the point I can not watch any of the political shows I just get so darn mad all they care about is the game and we the American public get hosed. I actually got a CD player and bought some old movies and that is what I watch now and they are Obama free which is a plus!
Oreilly is another Moore. Neither one believes their own bullshit, but it certainly pays the bills in spades. Glad I saw him for what he is a long time ago.

Who supplied this steaming pile of lies to "Talking Points"? The Brady Bunch? It certainly is right out of their playbook, right down to the hysterical "bazooka" reference. Do you know what that is?
Most folks know you were never in the military, but your staff should prepare your stuff better in areas you are so unfamiliar such as true military firearms. What is a so-called "heavy weapon" you kept referencing? Something that someone told you is scary looking? You may want to ask the military.
The ammunition that seems to have you in an uproar is the same that is used in countless other rifles. You want that reported to the government?
These points were so over the line false and inflammatory that you just lost thousands of viewers all over again. You'd think after your missteps with the Swift Boat Vets and Rathergate that you would have learned better in alienating viewers. But you probably pleased the Brady Bunch by using their material. The messiah may even grant you another interview.
Me
Kailua Kona
I had to toss in that lack of military experience. I know that is a very sore point with him.
Imagine that!
Tens of thousands of illegal aliens, perhaps terrorists, cross into the USA every year and Homeland Security chooses NOT to know about it.
An Islamic terrorist brought an unauthorized weapon onto Ft. Hood, killing fellow soldiers, and the FBI chose NOT to know about it.
The Attorney General is lying to Congress about trafficking illegal weapons to Mexican drug carels, resulting in the death of a US Border Patrol agent and hundreds of Mexican nationals, and the FBI chooses NOT to investigate it.
this is what happens when people who don’t know jack about firearms and ammunition open their mouths to talk about them
