Investigators track Colo. shooting suspect's ammo shipments
CBS News ^ | July 21, 2012 | by Bob Orr

(CBS News) Sources say investigators have found key evidence in dumpsters and trash bins outside of James Holmes' apartment, including a shipping label from an internet ammunition store called BulkAmmo.com.

Investigators also tell CBS News they have recovered a surveillance video of James Holmes picking up approximately 150 pounds of ammunition at a Federal Express outlet in Colorado.

They've interviewed a UPS driver who says Holmes had 90 packages delivered to his workplace on the University of Colorado medical campus.

And sources say over the past several months, Holmes spent about $15,000 as he was putting together his deadly arsenal -- guns, chemicals, explosives, and ammunition.

"Through the Internet he purchased over 6,000 rounds of ammunition, more than 3,000 rounds of. 223 ammunition for the assault rifle, 3,000 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition for the two Glocks in his possession and 300 rounds for the 12 gauge shotgun."

Holmes did most his shopping on Internet sites. And he was clearly in a hurry.

A receipt from TacticalGear.com shows on July 2 -- two-and-a-half weeks before the shootings -- Holmes purchased a bulletproof vest and other equipment. He paid extra to have it shipped by 2nd-day air.

U-2012> Did no one at the University question him about the 90 UPS packages marked as hazardous materials shipments??? All of which were not related to work !

It is still not hazmat, ORM-D = NOT hazmat. Small arms ammo (.50 cal, 8 gauge or smaller is the same as shipping a can of friggin’ hairspray. Google (SgtBob knows about shipping, as delivery is his job) Cheers!

I never said it was hazmat, you did.

Ammunition must be shipped separately from packages that contain firearms (including handguns). Ammunition will be transported only when packaged and labeled in compliance with 49 C.F.R. § 172 regarding hazardous materials shipments, and must be shipped in accordance with the UPS Guide for Shipping Ground and Air Hazardous Materials.

"Investigators track Colo. shooting suspect's ammo shipments"

Why? Do they suspect the sellers to be in league with the little twerp? In my opinion they should just execute the piece of s___ and get on with the healing process. But we all know how they are don't we? They're going to keep slowly peeling away the scabs that form in order to maximize the suffering the victims and their families suffer and leaving the biggest, nastiest scar they can. Isn't it interesting how the media flocks to Aurora like flies to dung and they ignore two very relevant facts. As Michael Berry said a couple of days ago (paraphrasing), Demoncraps are shooting each other en masse every single night in cities like Chicago, LA, New York, etc... and nobody in the media says a word about it and... where is national outrage about the 49 decapitated bodies dumped near Texas boarder.
I wonder if the media's lack of carying about the mutilated and decapitated bodies are being ignored, for the most part, because the obomba administration and his ministry of propaganda (the media) are afraid that a link between the 49 massacred men and women at the boarder might be linked to their fast and furious program while the lone moonbat in Colorado can't. I also wonder, since holder is checking into it, how much of the arms used by the Aurora shooter can be traced back to Holder and his idiotic sting operations (Fast and Furious being just one example.)? And if it turns out holder's straw-man arms dealers did sell arms to the cowardly shooter in Aurora will the media push it out of the public eye they way they have the massacre on the boarder?

Just curious.

Who in the hell has ammo delivered to their workplace?

Even if it requires a signature, I don’t have things delivered to the office.

Plus a average size box filled with ammo will not be easy carrying out to the car. It can be quite heavy. The perp in question did not look like a left tackle, he would need a hand truck to get his deliveries out to his car.

First they brought the ATF, then cough syrup restrictions, and then they excused homosexual mass murderers like holmes because he had access to the “gun show loophole”/

THe only loophole I see in this is that THE MEDIA AND LAWYERS will excuse any criminal out there if he uses a gun legally purchased.

The next few weeks are going to be filled with Trayvon excuses for the release of this psycho, feeling sad for him, with the you know who OWS OCCUTARD FREE MUMIAH GAY RIGHT activists at the helm, along with Bloomberg NYPD Cops letting them prance around and make their point.

Of course, it is the FAST AND FURIOUS LOOPHOLE.

If you are gay and muslim, you’re good. Black dealer like Trayvon? Excellent!

A “poor psycho” who happened to buy a gun? OH MY!!! The media will defend you in court and praise you for the massacre!!!!

Let me see... how many other loopholes we have?

911 Saudis? My, now your religion is the dominant legal religion in AMerica, and you get to infiltrate the State Department and all of that. We cannot be unpc and draw profiling conclusions.

And illegals do not rape when they rape, they exercise their rights.

A cop or politician? Yeah, no need to pay the whores in Bolivia if you have a SS badge, or rape them in hotels like DSK did.

Geitner? No tax need to be paid.

Holder? Ah, he gets offended when accused.

Obama? No need of birth certificate, we got the racism loophole there going.

And the list of “gun show” or “Fast and furious” loopholes go on...

I’d be curious to know if other states have the same mandate for ammunition purchasers.

I've never purchased ammo off the Internet but here in Nevada ammo can be purchased over the counter with no ID, even here in Clark Co.

Thank you for your service!

but what do you think of a reporting requirement for large orders, like the $10,000 bank notice enacted to reduce illegal financial and drug transactions?

I think both are violations of our freedoms.

The only people it affects are law abiding Citizens as we are the only ones who by definition obey the laws.

Here's hoping they get his recruiters and programmers.

The real question is whether they WANT to find his recruiters and programmers.

Legal? I’m still trying to figger out how he bought the guns in Colorado legally? He would have needed Colorado ID to buy the handguns. But full time students don’t usually change their state of residence and he was a californian. Did he have a Colorado ID and how long had he had it. Without looking it up I think the rule is 90 days residency for purposes of buying weapons as an in-state resident. The dealers who sold him the guns should know?

Obviously the lamestream media is trying to make it look like these purchases are a crime. When in fact it is NOT a crime.

But as usual, they want to ban internet sales of ammo. Because in their puny little mInds that is what really caused this tragedy. Not the poor deranged idiot who didn’t receive enough attention when he was a child!

Pathetic

One of the earlier stories CLAIMED he was “unemployed”...I am not into tin foil hats, but I seriously doubt this fella did this on his own...he got that money somewhere...and Im guessing NOT from his daddy.

It's not even October, yet. But I'll bet by the time that rolls around the Obama machine will be riding this horse hard.... BOHICA

Thanks for your response. I’m going to research whether having to provide photo ID for the purchase of ammo is a requirement by statute or just a store policy.

As an aside, I'm a native Californian of 40 years, moved to Vegas in 2000.

In Cali back in the mid 80's, you had to show ID and leave a submit to a thump print.

Don't miss Cali politics at all, such a beautiful State screwed up by libs....bustards.
