Former President George W. Bush will not attend the Republican convention next month in Tampa, POLITICO has learned.
President Bush was grateful for the invitation to the Republican National Convention, Bush spokesman Freddy Ford wrote in an e-mail. He supports Governor Romney and wants him to succeed. President Bush is confident that Mitt Romney will be a great President. But hes still enjoying his time off the political stage and respectfully declined the invitation to go to Tampa.
Asked if the former president had been invited to only attend or whether he was also asked to speak, Ford said the conversation didnt get that far and the former president declined before details were discussed.

You left out John Roberts.
Never saw this before ....
Yep, Bush was a Milquetoast.
Class and dignity is “politcally toxic?” It’s a shame but I think you’re right. Look at the clowns we have in the White House right now.
The media has never gotten over Bush “stealing” the election from Gore....and they never will. Also let’s not forget the dot com bust and housing bust cannot be blamed on Bush.
The “he was classy” argument for Dubya is the most obnoxious. Let me get this straight - since he wore a tie in the Oval office it’s cool that he and Ted Kennedy signed the No Child Left Behind Act? Less class, more small government conservatism please.
“as an ex-President he has shown a great deal of class in not criticizing the buffoon currently occupying the Whit House.”
Maybe it’s not so much “a great deal of class” as it is “I don’t give a crap”. He could point out issues in subtle ways instead of opting out of all dialog.
But thats not what I asked is it?
I doubt Romney will be any better than Bush. He will likely be worse because I haven’t seen or heard any hard evidence that he is not flaming lib job.
My minimum hope is Romney will get the economy going in the right direction and he won’t appoint communist as SCJ.
Other than that, I’m getting that same sick feeling I did about Romeny as I did in 2007 about Obama.
God save us all.
The whine is strong in this thread.
So you signed onto this thread to whine, not surprised.
Plus George W. Bush is an authentic, committed Christian. That alone places him in a completely different category than the current Islamist dishonoring the address at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Why is that always the standard answer? God forbid we aspire to electing an actual conservative. Bush is an idiot. He trusted Musharraf and Putin, with disastrous results. He took his shoes off in a filthy mosque and declared Islam "the religion of peace" while the WTC site was still smoldering (later we found out the Imam had links to Hamas) . Can you even imagine FDR taking his shoes off in a Shinto shrine after Pearl Harbor? He tried to push through illegal alien amnesty, and we can to shut his ass down cold. Even today, this pathetic assclown calls those of us who want to secure the border "xenophobes" (2009 SMU speech). He signed campaign finance reform, and we had to endure the 2006 and 2008 crushing losses in which we were vastly outspent before we got Citizens United. I cannot stand this man anymore. I despise his brother. NO MORE BUSHES EVER. PUT IT IN THE CONSTITUTION. (Clintons too). And damn right, no convention either, or for that Progressive pansy clown Juan McLame.
The economic collapse and TARP which occurred on his watch had nothing to do with it. - rolls eyes -
You do not notice the difference in how the media covered Bush and how it covers Obama?
I’m not saying Bush didn’t bring some of it on himself but come on?
Beside the economic collapse and Tarp happened the last year in office.
Have you noticed Obama makes Bush look thrifty in comparison.
Have you noticed that our economy is not recovering?
Do you blame Bush for that?
Wasn’t my prince who screwed this country seven ways from Sunday. It was yours.
I think Obama is in office because:
He’s black.
The housing crash just before the election.
A perfect storm.
The latter I blame mostly on dem legislation and their shenanigans with Freddie and Fanny.
Bush wasn’t running for re-election so I don’t think he, personally, is ‘precisely why Obama is in office.
I should have added John McCain to the mix.
“The housing crash just before the election.”
The buildup and the event happened on his watch. The buck stops with him. He failed in his duty and we are suffering the consequences.
I’m guessing we’ll see a lot more of G.W. when a ‘republican’ is President.
