Warner Bros. Considers Cancellation of ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Screenings
The Wrap ^ | July 20, 2012 | Sharon Waxman

Warner Bros., the studio releasing “The Dark Knight Rises,” is considering whether to cancel screenings across the country after a massacre took place at a midnight screening in Colorado that left 12 moviegoers dead in the early hours of Friday.

Executives at the Hollywood studio were gathered at the Burbank offices from the middle of the night, struggling with whether to alter roll-out plans for the second-biggest release in movie history.

An executive told TheWrap that Warner was watching the situation and still considering whether to take further measures beyond cancelling the Paris premiere, including cancelling screenings at theater chains.

The executive said they would be making decisions on Friday and throughout the weekend as they conferred within the studio, monitored news reports and spoke to theater chains.

where’s the crimes?

You are not series, right?

It’s actually 3 or 4 jumps too far to conclude a movie franchise is complicit in a mass shooting.

Except that...hold on...someone brilliant wrote something addressing this--wait that was me. Shucks. Here:

Shooter dresses out as the lead villainous character, IDs himself as such, shows up at this specific movie premier and kills as many innocents in attendance as possible.

This nut "became" the violent fictional character. He was predisposed, upon consuming the product over some extended time frame most likely, and to act upon it. And we know why(he was predisposed).

Look at the chart I posted in 73, I’m 100% serious. 1 spree killer is not proof of anything. If these things caused people to go over the edge on any level in any way the violent crime rate would not have dropped by over 50% during the age of popular entertainment. So yes indeed in total seriousness, if you’re going to assert movies cause nuts WHERE ARE THE CRIMES? (notice the S, that’s important)

But he WASN’T dressed out as the lead villainous character.
http://gma.yahoo.com/colorado-batman-movie-shooting-suspect-phd-student-085940589—abc-news-topstories.html
“ballistics helmet, bullet-proof vest, bullet-proof leggings, gas mask and gloves.” No Batman bad guy has ever dressed like that. The most that we’ve got is he said he was the Joker, he didn’t dress like the Joker, some reports say he died his hair red, which would also be NOT Joker. So no he did NOT “become” the violent fictional character.

The only part of that whole thing you’ve got right is he was predisposed. Yes, he was already nuts. Batman didn’t make him nuts.

We need to stop blaming the things around people for them. It’s tiresome, it’s stupid, and it excuses bad behavior. If we insist on blaming something other than the nut for the nut let’s blame the fact that we keep excusing nuts by blaming everything else. Maybe if somebody months or years ago said “holy crap this Holmes guy is whacky” and followed up on that 12 people would still be alive today. Had Batman never been invented Holmes would still be insane.

Every theater should cancel the showing of the movie.

You should burn your car.

I learned an invaluable (if horrific) lesson, today: never, ever, EVER watch Last Tango in Paris with your ninety-seven year old grandmother.

I really cannot stress this enough. ;)

Well, you're effectively arguing my POV now. Glad you came around. Knew you had some sense.

Shooting suspect James Holmes called a loner who emulated the Joker; his mother says, 'You have the right person'

The fact that he self-identified as "The Joker" and painted red his hair and goatee and dressed all in black might properly suggest he was in character; that his get-up didn't model precisely the fictional character to a "T" probably suggests he couldn't find a proper makeup artist at such a later hour in Aurora, Co. It doesn't contradict his expressed belief in his delusion that he was "The Joker." Plainly this is more telling than rather his outfit was kosher or not.

Homowood is part of the environment and environment has influence on all life forms. You need a refresher course in the basics. Parents are not the root of all evil behavior.

Yes, of course the media has no influence on behavior. I am Shocked to think people actually believe such nonsense. What influenced people to vote Bo into office.

I’m no where near your point of view. Yours is the point of view of the idiots that blame everything but the perpetrator. Yours is the point of view the left had when Loughner went on his rampage last year, blaming conservatism.

The real thing to get from that link is that his mother knew he had issues and did nothing for it.

Right there in your paragraph we see the problem with your point of view. The Joker’s colors are purple and green, the Joker’s colors have been purple and green for 60 years with no variation. And the only time in that stretch when the Joker had any facial hair was when Caesar Romero refused to shave so they applied the makeup over his trademark mustache. So an idiot with red hair, a goatee and dressed all in black is most certainly NOT self emulating or self identifying as the Joker. It’s not a matter of not modeling precisely to a T, he didn’t model even slightly AT ALL.

“What influenced people to vote Bo into office.”

Duh, people who are stupid enough to believe the MSM?
Moochers who Wanted to believe Zero was going to give them Free Money?

How many Decades did it take to get Helen Thomas booted off the WH Press Corp?

The media’s nothing more than a convenient excuse used by Moochers who if they didn’t Have the MSM would find some other excuse to justify being Moochers.

brent13a is slam bang straight up Correct.

“n the 1940’s-60’s it was The Beatles and Elvis...Rock N Roll was Satan/force people to murder.
Then in the 1980’s it was Heavy Metal was Satan/force people to murder.
Then in the 2000’s it was Video Games are Satan/force people to murder.
Then, just recently selective memory states that it is just the recent gory movies are Satan/force people to murder.
(Even though ultra gory movies have been released far and wide since the 1970’s)

Obviously Saudi Arabia and Iran have it 100% right. Banning all that stuff has obviously made them a far superior peaceful and nonviolent people. “

WHO here among his detractors would like to see a Cabinet Level Fed Dept created to regulate Cultural Correctness?

Or isn’t that what we’ve Already got in almost Every minute of our lives already? And not only are we drowning in it, we’re being stolen Blind to Pay for it.

The 3 stooges were not evil. I guarantee you were influenced by them and you probably mimicked them. I have spent most of my life studying living systems and one of the most basic principles learned early is that environment clearly influences behavior. It is really shocking to think some people don’t know this fact.

Your first sentence says it all. People whose behavior was influenced by the MSM to vote for the Kenyan fraud. The media has a far more powerful influence on behavior than most people can imagine. Ask yourself why so many people now view homosexuals as bordering on normal behavior and who influenced most influenced this change?

Please study up on why companies spend billions on advertising. To change buying behavior, maybe.

Nope. I'm not releasing the shooter for ultimate culpability, that's a lazy argument and you know I don't believe any such thing.

Still, you're getting (I hope unintentionally)sidetracked in details. In the end nothing hinges on whether or not he was really in full costume, and I think you realize that as well. He was by all reports immersed in dark and violent fantasy pursuits, which I contend played some role here; you firmly assert it didn't-- that is the crux of the issue. And, reportedly, he told the cops upon arrest that he was "The Joker." Not sure how anyone can wiggle out of that obvious choke-hold, claiming it isn't relevant to whether or not he was influenced by the glorification of evil and violence he admired so much he emulated it. But go right ahead.

The real thing to get from that link is that his mother knew he had issues and did nothing for it.

Oh, point an accusing finger at Mom instead of the gunman. I see. /lame argument

I'm convinced we will eventually learn there's plenty of blame to go around here, dynamics we cannot possibly even speculate on right now,(as someone recently said: "you didn't do that by yourself") but the majority of blame lies with the killer who knew what he was doing, and chose it. And that won't change.

No all the laziness is coming from you, the second you start holding anything but the shooter even slightly responsible you are removing ultimate culpability from him.

Not sidetracked at all. The details are what matters, the details show that you’re wrong. The details show he was NOT imitating the Joker, the details show he was a nut self inspired.

The crux of the issue is that for 30+ years whenever a stupid nut goes off and does some stupid nut things people like you have sought to put the blame on his entertainment. And for 30+ years people like you have been wrong.

The mom apparently knew her kid was nuts well enough to be able to tell the cops with scant information that they got the right guy. Nothing lame about pointing that out.

We’ve ALREADY learned that all attempts to blame the nuts’ entertainment are misplaced. We’ve played this game over and over again. Loughner, Columbine, Hinkley, the Judas Priest kid, the D&D kids, the narrative is the same over and over again. People like you ignore the millions of not insane people with the same hobby and blame the hobby. And you’re wrong, every single time.

It’s the majority of the blame that lies with the killer. It’s EVERY SINGLE IOTA. Putting even a drop of blame anywhere else is excuse monger BS that’s shameful and stupid. And frankly a conservative on FR doing a mere 18 months after WE were the ones being blamed is pathetic, you should have learned. I learned 30 years ago being a D&D player when that dipstick killed himself. It’s deeply unfortunate you couldn’t be bothered to learn the lesson.
