Virus Transmits much more Easily Via Anal Intercourse, Research Shows

New research pinpoints a major reason why gay and bisexual men remain so vulnerable to the AIDS epidemic: When it comes to the transmission of HIV, a man who has unprotected anal intercourse is at especially high risk.

In fact, if that kind of intercourse was only as risky as vaginal intercourse, researchers report, HIV cases among gay and bisexual men would shrink dramatically. It would go down even more, they added, if their rates of casual sex declined.

[. . . ] According to UNAIDS, HIV is more common among gay and bisexual men than adults in general in all areas of the world, even Africa. In North America, an estimated 15 percent of gay and bisexual men are infected with HIV; the rate is the highest, 25 percent, in the Caribbean.

Previous research has shown that being on the receiving end of anal intercourse is equally risky whether you're a man or a woman. The risk was estimated at 1.4 percent per sex act with an infected person -- about 18 times more risky than male-to-female vaginal intercourse.

What was really annoying in the 80's were the talk shows that tried to show gays weren't the ones with AIDS. If they had 10 people on stage to talk about it , it usually broke down along these lines:
2 or 3 from blood transfusions
3 or 4 heterosexual couples who "somehow" got it
1 virgin girl who got it after having sex for the first time
1 granny who got it at the old folks home
and one flaming gay guy who somehow contracted through no fault of his own.
What garbage! It's when I first realized what liars liberals are and what power they had over the media.

The article says heterosexuals are the majority of those infected. Then it says UNAIDS says HIV is more common among homosexual and bisexual men around the world. Those statements are contradictory.

Percentage wise perhaps both statements can be true.

Not reading the article, but say 30% of gay and bi’s have HIV.

But the bi’s and drug users give it to .5% of heteros. The 0.5% number of heteros (Out of 8 billion) would still be way larger than 30% of gay and bi (100 million???).
