Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney lashed out Tuesday at President Obama for a lack of transparency in invoking executive privilege to withhold Operation Fast and Furious documents.
In a release headlined Transparent Hypocrisy: Obamas Fast and Furious Broken Promises, Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said: President Obamas pledge to be transparent has turned out to be just another broken promise.
The statement is an effort by the presumed GOP candidate to push back at Obama attacks on Romneys limited release of tax returns and his tenure at Bain Capital, which invested in companies that laid off workers or specialized in outsourcing.
It is also Romneys first foray into the thicket of Fast and Furious, the 2009-2010 ATF operation in which Phoenix-based agents were instructed to let Mexican cartel intermediaries purchase weapons rather than stopping them.
The aim was to track the weapons to Mexico as part of a broad investigation to link U.S. gun purchases to the drug cartels, whose conflict with Mexican authorities has resulted in 50,000 deaths.
But as a result, 2,000 or more weapons were smuggled into Mexico while agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives watched and waited.
When two of those weapons were found at the site in Southern Arizona where Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was shot and killed in December 2010, Fast and Furious percolated into a full-throated Washington brouhaha.
On Tuesday, the Romney campaign highlighted a CNN interview from 2007 in which then Sen. Obama criticizes the administration of President George W. Bush for invoking executive privilege against a Senate committee probing Bushs abrupt dismissal of nine U.S. attorneys.
In the statement Tuesday, the Romney campaign cited Fast and Furious as one of several issues in which Obama has proven to be far less than transparent.

Sounds like he has. Question is, will it be a sustained effort?
Of course in order to be effective the media has to stop lying.

If Romney develops more spine I just might have to contribute to his campaign.
But I have given up on the GOP.
In my humble assessment of F & F, Buckwheat is an accessory to murder and engaged in treasonous acts against the United States, their citizens and their constitutional rights.
It’s time to vote in patriots on every level of government and arrest Buckwheat for murder and treason.
Sounds like Romney is more concerned with executive privilege and a ‘you broke your promise’ than Obama/Holder supplying Mexican drug cartels with weapons.
There are real scandals that Ubama is involved in.
Mitt needs to fight candles with flamethrowers.
...we are seeing it now—if Obama loses the MSM will be dealt a blow they will never recover from—they desperately need the gratitude of the totalitarian tyranny they wish to install in order to survive--and we all know how fascist tyrants, once they seize total power, repay their useful idiots.
Romney had better be very well prepared for any debates. The Dems and the media can't wait to nail him with gotcha after gotcha. Those debates will be all attack on Romney and a lovefest for Zero.
If you apply the classic definition of terrorism, Holder is guilty of being a terrorist. Let's hope the brass at the Pentagon exercise their new NDAA powers and rendition his sorryass to Guantanamo.
He's as clueless as we always knew he was.
Another narcissist with "US President" on his bucket list.
Just like Obama is more concerned with Romney's 'transparency' than he is about Romney possibly evading taxes.
Its the same games, played in increments.
The MSM has given Obama millions and millions of dollars in free publicity. Obama still cries he hasn’t received enough, he is not raising as much money, as he jets around at taxpayer’s expense.
Nailed it. This is the way I see it as well. Does the new media have enough to pull it off...
It is pretty impressive that they have gotten it this far. The only thing that can save the old system is all out repression. I do not think they can pull it off.
Romney is going to have to hammer Obama incessantly because he doesn’t have the media on his side. He needs to beat him up everyday. Nice guys are going to cut it.
Another hope and changer bites the dust.
“He’s as clueless as we always knew he was.”
Which is why every patriot and conservative needs to vote in conservatives to every office from local councilman to US senator. We, meaning the Tea Party, control 26 states. In 2010, more than 700 patriots were elected to state offices or legislature seats. Conservative governors are pushing back against the criminal fascist syndicate occupying Washington.
In my state, we have 20 of Holder’s “peeples” locked up under state charges and facing up to 20 years in prison. When the fat SEIU cows tried to disrupt a tea party meeting, we chased these slobs into a building. They locked themselves inside and were bawling for the cops to rescue them.
Rock ‘n roll, FRiend
