BRIT HUME: It is fair to say that we know more tonight than we ever have about the president's view of business and the economy. His assertion over the weekend that, 'If you got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen' explains nearly everything. He wasn't talking about God, he was talking about government.
Here is a man that believes not just that the government provided framework of roads, bridges, defense and law enforcement helps the private sector. He believes these things are are the nerve center, the driving force. More important than any individual, talent, enterprise or initiative. As he put it: 'There are a lot of smart people out.' As for diligence: 'There are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.' Success? 'You didn't get there on your own.'
This is a view that successful businessmen, women are merely the ones who did better at taking advantage of the benefits that government has bestowed. Therefore, he thinks they should be glad to pay an even greater share of federal taxes than they do. He (Obama) calls that, 'giving back,' as if the government conferred all that they have and they shouldn't mind returning a bit more of it where it came from.
This explains why so much stimulus money was spent to protect government and why his legislation on healthcare and financial reform involved extending the reach and power of, you guessed it, government.

Obama must be referring to the fact that in order for you to be successful, some federal regulator HAD TO GET OUT OF THE WAY.
Which he is parsing to mean, made that happen.
So!
Anytime you have any measure of success, you should be thankful for the regulator, who didnt stop you....
Brit Hume is a RomneyBOT leftist who supports STATISM,
RomneyCARE, DeathPANELs, and Mr. ROmneyCARE’s falsehoods.
Brit Hume has spent too much time going after real
conservatives to be taken seriously any more.
As noted elsewhere:
Obama’s view is exactly that of Lenon.
Because you needed help, your business is the property of “the people”.
The government is free to determine what you may keep.
Thank you, as always, for your ineffective, hateful commentary! Who do you suggest our candidate be?
Obama’s demented view of how wealth is obtained fits in with the Marxist slant. Wealth sort of “just happened” accidentally, and the rich were quicker than everyone else at hauling away the free loot. So give some (or a lot) of that “stolen” moolah back to the people. By people, Obama of course means Big Goverment who will waste er spend that money much more wisely than individuals just spending it on selfish things like their selves and their families.
The more amazing thing is that the jug-eared moron is incapable of udenrstanding where the money came from to build the roads BEFORE construction could begin. His ignorance is of biblical proportion and the fact that such an intellectual pigmy and unmitigated disaster could ascend to the highest political office in the land is truly disheartening.
‘You didn’t get there on your own.’
The Right is overreacting to this and missing a key point:
Yeah, you didn’t get there on your own. You made CONTRACTS to HIRE people and PAID them FAIRLY for their services. Everyone involved has been duly compensated for their part in getting you ‘there’. Insofar as any advantage may have been taken, it’s paltry compared to confiscating rightfully owned & earned wealth from individuals and giving it to the completely undeserving.
My favorite Leftist complains about companies making their money off infrastructure (roads, power, etc). I have to remind him that those services were paid for (gas taxes, electric bills, etc.) as taxed & contracted.
Just because someone can create a whole greater than the sum of its parts doesn’t mean the creators of those parts are owed more than they sold those parts for. EVERYONE’s profit comes from leveraging the parts to create a more valuable whole.
First, very few businesses are there because the roads and bridges are there.
It is the opposite. Roads go where people want to go. Where do they want to go? They want to go where there are jobs, factories, businesses, resort areas (which are simply businesses of another kind), financial centers, etc.
Build a big interstate out to the hinterlands and just see if it results in a NYC or ATL at the end.
Second, it is those businesses and their employees that paid the tax that built the roads.
People walked foot paths until they learned how to harness beasts of burden and build wagons. The paths got a little wider and more like roads.
The automobile brought about our present form of roads. Who would have been so rich and so foolish as to build our form of interstates 200 years ago?
If government was so wise, why did it not build those roads 200 years ago so we could invent cars? While they were at it they could have built a few jet airports as well.
obummer is a Marxist preaching Marxism and only fools fall for it.
Aw, crap and darnit; I like Brit. Still do.
Will you ever learn?
f roads, bridges, defense and law enforcement
The country isn't going broke building roads, bridges, providing defense and law enforcement. It's going bankrupt doing the main job of government these days - being everyone's daddy.
What the heck is going on?!??!! Either they figured they are going to lose badly and want to firmly secure their base. Or this is some real genius strategy which escaped me.
The Roanoke speech was, in addition to making the case for higher taxes, Obama’s way of attempting to drive a wedge between private sector employees, and their employers.
This is why I always cringe when I hear some successful businessman, athlete or entertainer talk about “giving back”. At some point I want to ask, “Why? Did you steal something?”
Combine this with (mandatory) volunteerism in our educational system and we’ve got a whole lot of young people running around thinking that every individual literally owes everybody (meaning the government).
This is crazy.
Obama is going all in, now. Be prepared to find sites like FR go dark if he is reelected. ((((shudder)))))
From other threads [sorry i do not recall posters for credit]
1) if gov’t builds it, why do so many business fail?
2) gov’t doesn’t build it, gov’t takes bids, puts regulations in the way, and doesn’t pay in a timely manner.
