When a biographer sets out to understand a president, he naturally begins with mentors, the people who helped shape his character, career and worldview, notes author Paul Kengor.

But when it comes to explaining Barack Obama, the establishment media has shown virtually no interest in delving into the life of the man the president himself held up as a guiding and affirming voice at every major point in his life.

“NEVER BEFORE IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA HAS A PRESIDENT HAD A MENTOR WHO IS A LITERAL CARD-CARRYING MEMBER OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY,” Kengor told WND in an interview. “That is remarkable.” (EMPHASIS ADDED)

Set for release today, Kengor’s “The Communist: Frank Marshall Davis: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mentor” is the first in-depth treatment of the man Obama refers to only as “Frank” in his autobiography “Dreams from My Father.”

“It’s just scandalous,” Kengor told WND, “that we could be four years into the Obama presidency, and only now are we getting a book on the beliefs and thinking and radical past of that mentor.”

If you want to hear Davis in Obama’s rhetoric and ideas, you can begin with Obama’s vow on the eve of his historic election to bring “fundamental change” to the U.S. – the exact term Davis used to describe a communist revolution in the U.S.

Kengor pointed out that when Davis launched the communist Chicago Star newspaper in 1946 he called for a “new Declaration of Independence” in his first column. Davis wrote that history teaches, alluding to the Marxist dialectic, that “any fundamental change advancing society is spearheaded by strong radicals.”

Obama, who uses Frank’s name 22 times in “Dreams” and refers to him with pronouns in many other instances, describes him in his autobiography as a father figure, with a permanent influence on his life, whose counsel helped him navigate his teen years and guide him into his adulthood.

Kengor notes that like Obama, Davis railed against the “tentacles of big business,” skewered Wall Street and “greedy” millionaires, lambasted Republican tax cuts that “spare the rich,” attacked “excess profits” and oil companies, and regarded the Catholic Church as an obstacle to his vision for the state.

Kengor thinks the relationship with Davis might be behind Obama’s decision to send the bust of Churchill given to the U.S. as a gift after the 9/11 attacks back to Britain.

In his lifetime of teaching about the Cold War, he said, he’s encountered only two people who didn’t like Churchill: Frank Marshall Davis and Barack Obama.

“What kind of a coincidence is that?” he asked.

Like communists and their sympathizers throughout the 20th century, Kengor explained, many on the left today display a virulent disdain for anti-communists that causes many in the conservative establishment to back off on examinations of people like Davis.

“For liberals, there is nothing that seems to anger them more than anti-communism,” he said. “It’s not that liberals are pro-communist, even though liberals do share certain sympathies with communists on certain things, but liberals absolutely detest anti-communists.

And now, the Left has taken a same attitude towards those who want to expose the dangers of Islam/Sharia, to include, how members of the Muslim Brotherhood—AIDED AND ABETTED BY OBAMA—are advancing their cause of “Stealth/Civilization Jihad” within our Gov’t (as they toil towards their “STATED OBJECTIVE” of “Destroying our miserable house from within and replacing our Constitution with Sharia) by dismissing, impugning or attacking those who do.

As was the Far Left’s “Useful Idiot-like” slobbering love affair with Communism, their defense and embrace of Radical Islam is a manifestation of that ol’ Arab saying: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend,” such is their HATRED (as is that of B. Hussein Obama’s) of the United States.

Obama’s most-trusted aide, Valerie Jarrett – he describes her as “like a sibling to me” – is the daughter in law of Vernon Jarrett, who worked as a communist activist with Davis in the 1940s.

Valerie Jarrett is also the granddaughter of Robert R. Taylor, who was head of the infamous Chicago Housing Authority and cited in a 1944 report by the Special Committee on Un-American Activities.

Obama’s top campaign adviser and the chief crafter of his image and life narrative, David Axelrod, was mentored in his journalism career by David Cantor, a lifelong communist and alleged “paid Soviet agent” who was educated in Stalin’s Soviet Union, and Don Rose, a member of suspected communist front organizations.

David Cantor’s father, Harry Jacob Carter, was secretary of the Boston Communist Party.

Axelrod’s mother worked for a magazine known for its communist leanings.

Kengor said the only thing that kept him going in the research “without losing my mind and jumping off a cliff was knowing I was going to be reporting this and that others would see it.”

“There were times I was sick to my stomach,” he said. “WHAT HAS HAPPENED HERE? DO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE KNOW WHAT THEY ELECTED IN NOVEMBER 2008?”

SHORT ANSWER: At least here at FR, "YES WE DO!"

And therein lies the rub and dilemma for those who claim to be “Conservatives” and especially, “Patriots.”

Can one be a “True Conservative” and “Patriot” and ALLOW—through commission or omission—someone who wants to “Change” our Republic to be reelected and NOT have it weigh heavily on their conscience?

As what Obama's intent was/is and has accomplished in his 1st term leaves NO doubt as to what he is and moreover, what he WOULD continue to do if reelected, it now falls on those to decide who to vote for, vote AGAINST, or sit this one out.

As someone who is Catholic and oppose the “Social Issues” which have been foisted upon us (Roe v Wade, Gay Marriage, Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Big Gov’t, 2nd Amend etc.) and as as a Vietnam Veteran who (pushing 70 and has seen and lived thru much) who loves his country more than life, I must weigh the options presented to us:

Yes, Mitt is a Flip Flopper, more Liberal than not; has a terrible record as Gov of MA., is wishy-washy, has changed his mind on Gay Marriage, Abortion, 2nd Amend., etc, BUT, that was years ago and as Gov on [a] state.

What I/we DON’T know--FOR CERTAIN--is “HOW” he would govern as President!

Conversely what I/we DO know--FOR CERTAIN--is “HOW” Dear Leader WILL govern if reelected!

While there are some here who continue to disparage, attack, impugn and condemn Mitt (and his religion, Mormonism) because of his position on Social Issues, NONE, have YET, been able to provide a [SINGLE] example of ANTHING he has EVER said or DONE which would lead one to believe he HATES the United States, or would do anything to HARM it, much less “Change it” (read: DESTROY) as we KNOW B. Hussein Obama WILL if given, half a chance…..or a 2nd term.

Thus, to me, “my” decision is pretty cut and dry and simple. I will vote for the “Lesser of 2 Evils” in order to rid ourselves of the “Worst of the 2 Evils!”

Obama’s Red Mentor Praised Red Army

Barack Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Moscow-controlled Communist Party USA (CPUSA), wrote a poem dedicated to the Soviet Red Army. “Smash on, victory-eating Red Army,” he declared. He also wrote poems attacking traditional Christianity and the work of Christian missionaries.

The “Red Army” poem goes beyond hoping for the communists to beat the Nazis in World War II and hails the Soviet revolution. It says:

Show the marveling multitudes
Americans, British, all your allied brothers
How strong you are
How great you are
How your young tree of new unity
Planted twenty-five years ago
Bears today the golden fruit of victory!

"through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his 'poetry' and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just 'Frank.'

The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What's more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations."

Frank Chapman, a CPUSA supporter, has written a letter to the party newspaper hailing the Illinois senator's victory in the Iowa caucuses:

"Obama’s victory was more than a progressive move; it was a dialectical leap ushering in a qualitatively new era of struggle. Marx once compared revolutionary struggle with the work of the mole, who sometimes burrows so far beneath the ground that he leaves no trace of his movement on the surface. This is the old revolutionary 'mole,' not only showing his traces on the surface but also breaking through."

In Hawaii, he became a mentor to Barack Obama, the man who seeks the Presidency of the United States.

Kathryn Waddell Takara, Ph.D., a Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Hawaii, has written at least two lengthy analysis of Frank M. Davis’s political activities both in Hawaii and while he was living in Chicago. Takara created the first Black Studies department at the U of H in 1971 and is an associate of such notable leftists as Angela Davis and Stokely Carmichael.

Takara’s paper, 'Frank Marshall Davis: Black Labor Activist and Outsider Journalist: Social Movements In Hawaii,' describes Davis’ radical activities in Hawaii as both a writer and labor organizer.

How this committed Communist became a mentor to Barack Obama remains a mystery, but it is likely that his mother was somehow involved in far left activities in Hawaii and met Davis through her left-wing network on the University of Hawaii campus. Perhaps an enterprising reporter could ask Senator Obama how he met Davis and what sort of influence he may have had on him. Likewise, one can only speculate on the influence his rebellious, left-wing mother had on his political beliefs and aspirations.

Change is Here, Change is Coming

Let me begin with a simple observation: If the last 30 years were an era of reaction, then the coming decade could turn into an era of reform, even radical reform. Six months into the Obama presidency, I would say without hesitation that the landscape, atmosphere, conversation, and agenda have strikingly changed compared to the previous eight years.

In this legislative session, we can envision winning a Medicare-like public option and then going further in the years ahead.

We can visualize passing tough regulatory reforms on the financial industry, which brought the economy to ruin.

We can imagine the troops coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan while U.S. representatives participate in a regional process that brings peace and stability to the entire region.

In the current political climate, the expansion of union rights becomes a real possibility.

Much the same can be said about winning a second stimulus bill, and we sure need one, given the still-rising rate, and likely long term persistence, of unemployment.

Isn’t it possible in the Obama era to create millions of green jobs in manufacturing and other sectors of the economy in tandem with an attack on global warming?

Can’t we envision taking new strides in the long journey for racial and gender equality in this new era, marked at its beginning by the election of the first African American to the presidency?

And isn’t the overhaul of the criminal justice and prison system – a system steeped in racism – no longer pie-in-the sky, but something that can be done in the foreseeable future?

All these things are within reach now!

You want a different scoundrel in the White House? Appeal to fear. Urge people to vote their fear of Obama. But don't insult their intelligence by saying we don't know how Romney would govern. He's an incorrigible repeat offender.

Nine years before Palmer picked Obama to be her successor, she was the only African-American journalist to travel to the Soviet Union to attend the 27th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, according to an article Palmer wrote in the CPUSA newspaper, People’s Daily World, June 19, 1986.

“There has been no explanation of why Ayers et al. played a role in launching Obama’s political career,” Kincaid wrote.”
