The part-Manx cat clawed his way onto the political scene of Talkeetna, Alaska, through a write-in campaign shortly after he was born 15 years ago.
KTUU-TV reported Friday that residents didn't like the mayoral candidates years ago, so they encouraged enough people to elect Stubbs as a write-in candidate. The town has nearly 900 residents.
Although his position is honorary, Stubbs' popularity is real. His election earned him enough press to catapult the town at the base of Mount McKinley into a tourist destination.
Residents say they're happy that their stubby-tailed mayor is promoting tourism. The general store where Stubbs hangs out says it gets dozens of tourists a day asking for him.
I was in Talkeetna a couple of years ago and talked to several of the locals - charming oddballs. Supposedly, Talkeetna was the model for the town in the tv show Northern Exposure.
Alaskan Mayors are great Presidential material.
15 feline years >35 hunan years.
i’m writing in Stubbs.
Pretty easy choice, actually.

You were running away?
He may be cute but why won’t he release 20 years of tax returns? Because he is hiding something; probably felonies, tax evasion, a cat-nip addiction and who knows what else.
This is why me and many of my fellow Democrats have vowed to not take a shower until Stubbs releases his tax returns.
Any yellow cat is a far better public servant than any Democrat in the last 10 years.
And that would considered different from normal behavior...how?
I'll bet money his skeleton in the closet is a conviction for licking himself (otherwise known as "Playing The Bass Fiddle") in public.
Says Samantha the local Sage!
The wife and I were lucky enough to see the top of Denali from Talkeetna in 2007. On a whim we shelled out the $$ for a flightseeing tour and glacier landing. Awesome does not even come close to describing the trip.
What a great idea.......Vote in a chimpanzee as the next president. That will certainly make the final selection difficult.
That trip is well worth the money. Definately a bucket list activity. Fortunately, whether permitting, we wake up to that view every morning.
Unfortunately, the Moose Dropping Festival has been put on hold the last couple of years. There is an effort to get it going again. An amusing side note on that ..... it “celebrates / commemerates” the small round pellets moose excrete during the winter months..... thus the “Moose Dropping”...... I have been told that several years ago, PETA interpreted the name literally meaning the “dropping of moose” and stormed into town demanding this inhumane practice be stopped. Not sure if that story is true, but in this crazy world unfortunately it is believable.
We hope to spend a whole summer up there with the travel trailer someday. For now, it’s out of the question.
:(
When you do make it back up here, give me a shout. We own and operate a B&B here and can help any questions / arrangements.
