Silent Romney

By Mr. Curmudgeon

It's desia vu all over again. The presidential campaign of 2012 is starting to look a lot like the campaign of 2008. As you may recall, that's the one where Republican voters were told they needed to nominate a safe, bipartisan Republican for president - the kind of politician, we are told, independent voters lust for.

Right on cue, accommodating Republicans nominated Sen. John McCain, a man with a hint of a vague inkling bordering on an indication of an idea. Much to his credit, the clueless candidate picked a vice presidential running mate that was a better man than he could ever hope to be - Gov. Sarah Palin.

When appearing together publicly, Palin sucked the oxygen right out of the room and McCain's wheezing lungs. That's what happens when a person with ideas and passion is positioned next to a sack of old potatoes.

If recent polls are to be believed, Romney and the president are neck and neck. The press credits multibillion-dollar Democrat super-PAC ad campaigns, which paint Romney as a greedy corporate suit with offshore bank accounts who takes vacations while the nation is neck deep in an economic depression, for the Republican candidate's inability to connect with average voters.

That, of course, is a load of eyewash.

Obama has spent more time hitting golf balls into sand traps than any president in modern memory; he pours billions of taxpayer "green energy" seed money into crumbling wind and solar businesses - who export jobs to Mexico, Europe and China - before going bankrupt; his Justice Department sells weapons to Mexican drug cartels to gin up violence and murder in that tortured country as a pretext for imposing draconian gun legislation on law-abiding Americans; and the president recently let the camel's nose in the tent by offering amnesty to college-attending illegal aliens, giving American college graduates a run for their money in a shrinking job market.

Romney refuses to mention these obvious facts. He likes to play it safe - just like John McCain in 2008. Many exasperated Republicans want Romney to nominate a conservative running mate to energize the GOP's base - just like John McCain in 2008. Are you beginning to see an old familiar pattern here?

Many Republican politicians obviously believe we live in a bygone century, leaving the heavy lifting of presidential politics to their surrogates while they sip lemonade and enjoy the view from their front porch. Obama, on the other hand, understands that modern American politics is about community organizing. Progressives like Franklin Roosevelt started that process in 1933. Establishment Republicans have yet to notice.

The Tea Party, on the other hand, understands this reality.

Romney can't export his candidacy overseas. That means he has to roll up his sleeves ... maybe get his hands dirty ... and engage in the battle of ideas on the one hand while simultaneously throwing mud with the other.

It's either that or end up like McCain in 2008 ... a good loser.

In 1996 I kept waiting for (I’m) Bob Dole to start his campaign, and he never really did.

If Romney doesn’t come out swinging by the end of the Summer Olympics, I am going to be very nervous about the election.

Good loser is an oxymoron and this time the loser will be the U.S. of A. We had better put our dislike of Romney aside and begin to concentrate on defeating Obama. Cutting off one's nose to spite the face is unseemly and ignorant to boot.

After a grand total of one week? Reeeeealy?

After the two months of bumbling by the Obama campaign where the Democrats weren’t screaming for a new nominee, you have one week of Obama attack ads, and it’s freak-out time?

The only thing worse than a scared RINO are the Drama Queen Conservatives.

No wonder a conservative never becomes a nominee. If he/she had to deal with this group of whiners 24/7, they might as well stay home and keep their sanity.

Even the Queen of RINOS Peggy No-one noted it in yesterday’s morning’s WSJ. Pathetic!

You get him to go on the record that he was absolutely wrong when he did the following, and I'm all in, otherwise, no sale:

1. Implemented Gay Marriage unconstitutionally
2. Implemented an "Assault Weapons" ban.
3. Increased taxes by $700 million
4. Implemented his Socialized Medicine plan that had a $50 Abortion and redistributed the taxes paid by taxpaying productive members of society to those who had not earned the money.

That's all he has to do to overwhelming get my support.

Like I have been saying all along - this is nothing but a shell-game now. This is just more proof that we’ve all been played by the Ruling Class.

What should we expect when the ‘nominee’ was CHOSEN by Obama and his media stooges to be the opponent in November, ‘telegraphing’ and priming the field for the narrative that was used to bash Conservative candidates into oblivion?

Romney had no scruples of ‘playing it safe’ in the Primaries , viciously attacking and destroying in tandem with Obama & his media, any Conservative even POTENTIALLY running.

Now - Romney is playing the same game McCain did - right out of the Ruling Class playbook - kid gloves with Obama.

I for one have not forgotten Romney’s contempt of Conservatives or the TEA Party.

But yet we have all the deceived voting for Romney out of abject fear of Obama and playing into the trap set for us all to foster the illusion we have a voice in the oligarchy running this joint into the dust.

Seems mrcurmudgeon has his Depends in a bunch. I think that you shouldn’t react to every little thing piecemeal, save them up and swat them down, high profile.

This is a crock. Romney could go on a million talk shows, interviews etc. and assail Obama on the economy, foreign policy and the MSM would simply highlight the point in the interview that involve Bain. If the MSM doesn't report it, did Romney ever say it?

As far as I am concerned O and Co. have jumped the gun early. Romney IS advertising in strategic places but Obama is going at a way higher burn rate right now. Romney will take this on right now which is a good time to do it with summer and all and then starting a week before or immediately after the convention he will come out guns blazing. Ad after ad after ad using Obama's own words and those of his advisors, czars, etc will plaster the airwaves. Just think of all the quotes: "I think there is a point when you have made enough money" - "The private economy is doing fine..." - Steven Chu admitting that lowering gas prices is not the goal, etc. It will be sustained and blunt.

I’m waiting to see...

Romney was still primarily on vacation last week. Fair enough.

At some point he has GOT to start fighting. For real.
