America's coming civil war -- makers vs. takers
Fox News ^ | 7-12-12 | Arthur Herman

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

Those were Abe Lincoln’s words in his first inaugural in 1861, as America was running headlong into civil war. Now we’re a house divided again and another civil war is coming, with the 2012 election as its Gettysburg.

Call it America’s coming civil war between the Makers and the Takers.

On one side are those who create wealth, America’s private sector–the very ones targeted by President Obama’s tax hikes announced Monday.

On the other are the public employee unions; left-leaning intelligentsia who see the growth of government as index of progress; and the millions of Americans now dependent on government through a growing network of government transfer payments, from Medicaid and Social Security to college loans and corporate bailouts and handouts (think GM and Solyndra).

” (I love calling the ‘rats National Socialists. When they are taken aback, I just ask, which part do you disagree with? The National, or the Socialists?)”

Once you calculate that out you will get social security payments for about two years.

You might want to revise and extend your remarks, friend.

For discussion purposes, let's consider the SS taxes contributed by one who averaged $50K for 30 years:

Employee portion = $50K * .062 = $3100 * 30 years = $93,000.

Double that to include the employer portion, and you come up with $186,000.

Assuming a payout of $2500/month from SS, or $30K per year, that results in a term of over 6 years, without any consideration of accrued interest over those 30 years.

A quick check through an annuity calculator yielded a life annuity of nearly $15K per year.

Conservatives had better decide to recognize and make use of this distinction. For if they choose to attack the deserving entitlees as well as the undeserving entitlees, they are destined to lose the ideological battle.

It is vicious, misleading and self-defeating to broadly lump people who have been productive all their life with hardcore parasites. Such lies are liable to hand the election over to the Democrats. Such is the decay of the professional windbag class since Ronald Reagan. Reagan knew how to express hard truths without demeaning the worth of anybody.

The author of this piece in FoxNews should be ashamed.

"It is amazing some of the economic fallicies I see on Free Republic."

It amazes me that some people ON THIS SITE think that handing money over to people to blow on booze, cigarettes, and lottery tickets will help the economy grow.

This may help.
