Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff attacked Gov. Rick Perry's decision to reject federal matching funds to expand Medicaid eligibility Tuesday, saying it would put more pressure on the county's public hospital system and strained budgets.
He said the University Health System, which runs the county's public hospitals, might explore teaming with other public hospital systems in the state to access the federal money and expand healthcare coverage locally.
The Legislature will have some final say in it. They may come up with a different solution, so we have some time to figure it out. Wolff said. It's important to put no additional burden on local taxpayers.
Perry, who met Tuesday with executives from hospitals around Texas, believes flooding an already broken system with thousands of additional Texans, as an expansion under Obamacare would do, is neither responsible nor sustainable, Perry spokeswoman Lucy Nashed said. She declined to comment on Wolff's idea.

"If anyone was in doubt, we in Texas have no intention to implement so-called state exchanges or to expand Medicaid under Obamacare," Gov. Perry said. "I will not be party to socializing healthcare and bankrupting my state in direct contradiction to our Constitution and our founding principles of limited government.
"I stand proudly with the growing chorus of governors who reject the Obamacare power grab. Neither a "state" exchange nor the expansion of Medicaid under this program would result in better "patient protection" or in more "affordable care." They would only make Texas a mere appendage of the federal government when it comes to health care."................................. Gov. Perry: Texas Will Not Expand Medicaid or Implement Health Benefit Exchange
The word for public use...ought to be “sustainable”. If you can’t continue to pay for Medicare in the years to come, all because of this action, then most senior citizens would be against it (whether they were Democrats or Republicans).
I would also caution folks to note just how many patients that a regular country doctor can handle, and if you increased the patient load by twenty percent....would he still take the regular patients? Are magical doctors going to appear in 2014 out of the woodworks to handle the extra load? No...it’s not like just building another McDonalds or opening IHOP an hour earlier than usual. Again, most senior citizens would ask some stupid questions around this point in time if Doctor Joe wasn’t going to be adequately able to see them on a regular basis anymore.
I think, among many other “surprises,” we are going to see a lot of tasks and procedures being redefined so they can be performed by technicians and no longer require a doctor at all.
Thanks Cincinatus’ Wife.
Practising medicine without a license is a crime in most states, I believe. It won’t make any difference to the regime, but the fool that gets caught won’t think it’s funny when he’s sharing a cell with Bruno and Hans Erich.
It even gets worse than that. On Monday, I saw an article that says 83% of existing doctors would end their practice by 2014. Beck did a segment on his show last night on this and had four doctors on the show to discuss what they are looking at. So add that 20% additional workload to only 17% of doctors and the picture gets real ugly.
"Matching funds" means that the federal government borrows money to match money that you spend beyond that which you are already spending. This means that both Texas and Obama are spending even more money that neither has. Maybe Wolff needs to explain how this is good.
Is Wolff aware that he’s part of the judiciary and not the legislative or executive branch? He’s supposed to be ruling not writing and enforcing the law.
Checks and balances are still taught in law school, no?

The County Judge in Texas is the chief elected official of the county, equal, say, to a Mayor. Does not do any Judge duties any more, just has that title. Runs the county. Tis guy is a Dem, dependent on the illegal alien vote in San Antonio, like many south Texas Dems.
Even more reason to hang him.

Nelson Wolff has been in politics in San Antonio since I’ve lived here.
I first moved here in ‘72 and I believe he was a councilman at that time, not positive.
But he has been involved in whatever benefits Nelson Wolff and the democrat party.
A new minor league stadium was built here a few years back and Miller Beer was going to
give them $1 million to have the field called Miller Park. Wolff and his buddies went ballistic.
“Couldn’t name a stadium for a beer! Children go there and we cannot associate this city with that kind of publicity.”
He convinced the city government and guess what the stadium is called? Yep Nelson Wolff stadium.
Such a frigging hypocrite! San Antonio has numerous parties every year and beer and margarities are availabe
at all of them.
The words I usually use in the same sentence as Wolff are not allowed on this site.
Liberal democrat....move on people nothing to see here!
The moonbatty LIB DIMs won’t go down without a fight...but they will go down. Don’t be disspirited...fight them to the glorious end.
Screw you Judge Nelson! Don’t you dare!
Which procedures require an MD will be redefined. Following the Obamacare HHS instructions will not get anyone thrown into prison. Not following those guidelines will result in a doctor's bankruptcy or a visit by Obama Federal enforcers. It is more likely that those opposing Obamacare will end up in prison than some tech doing what used to be an MD's responsibility. Kick the tyrant out in November or the future will be bleak indeed.

No problem! Wwhile American Medical Education becomes moreof a restrictive impossible hurdle, we'll simply import thousands of doctors from the Third World, some few of whom actually know what they are doing.
Of course, what The Third World is supposed to do for chancre mechanics is another question.
Urgent Care places are popping up all over San Antonio. Xray machines, MRI’s, the works. By my house, they will cast a broken bone, treat infections and do emergency triage.
Go there on a Friday night during the school year and they are packed with all the kids who got banged up during the football game.
