Almost 50% of Americans on government assistance

Posted on 07/09/2012 7:43:54 PM PDT by MaryLou1

How can Romney beat Obama when almost half of the country is on government assistance?

The poll numbers amazed me-how can Obama be that close (or even beat) Romney in the polls?

Because the takers won't vote to cut their aid-why would they?

Illegals who don't have to show ID will take those numbers over the top and Obama will win by default.

reference source for the statistics: http://money.cnn.com/2012/02/07/news/economy/government_assistance/index.htm

Sometimes personal dignity has it's price when a person never valued it in the first place

p.s. this country was founded by people who rejected government control-how dare they take a country that restored and fought for self reliance and turn it into a nation of slaves?

The slaves on the plantation were controlled too, but they had their food and lodging paid for-and guess what? they didn't like it, they wanted freedom.

Imagine that!

Look what some people will do to allow families to keep grandparents present in the family circle.

You do realize the pontificators on this particular thread specifically stated that this involves anyone in a household getting government assistance, and if that's going on they are all just slackers.

Please read your nonsense before trying to tell me it's meaningful!

Talk straight and your points will be more clearly seen and regarded on their merit.

Just trying to be helpful, m, because you're a cool guy.

If we can somehow get Obama out and win the Senate, we must, MUST, M*U*S*T starting cutting back on government benefits. If we don’t, the takers will vote to take out money and give it to them.

I am reading the lead piece, and responding to specific comments on it.

Keeping grandpa upstairs in the family home, me and the wives on this floor, and the kids in the basement ~ some of them on unemployment, and grandpa on retirement and social security, and me running a fruit stand outside the Capitol Building ~ according to this piece we would all be slackers and ready to vote FOR the evil Obama and his running dog lackeys because we are so greatful!

That is utter nonsense.

Get the government out of the way of job creation and people will take care of themselves. Without jobs cutting back on food stamps, for example, will give you food lines at soup kitchens ~ which, I suppose, is probably efficient in its own way for distributing available stores, but it’s kind of third worldish.

Does this include tens of hundreds of thousand of government employees retiring at 50 years old with top self tax paid health care and those tax paid lottery style retirement benefits?

No!!

Not government assistance.

Their neighbors' assistance (at gunpoint, by the way). And whoever else is paying taxes.

“How can Romney beat Obama when almost half of the country is on government assistance?”

They are entitled to Obama without voting for him aren’t they? They shouldn’t have to vote for him to get him right?

That’s how Obama gets beat...

Exactly. It doesn’t come from government, it comes from you and me, and that guy behind the tree.

Not every person on government assistance is a dumbed-down committed obamabot.

Lumping folks together into one single category tends to ignore the fact that tvery group of people is comprised of individuals who have their own thoughts and ideas that be in conflict with yours.

muawiah

of course they aren’t scum-I did NOT mean to infer that

all SSecurity and medicare and unemployment recipients deserve their money-they paid into it!
if it comes down to taking care of your own take all you can get-ethics be damned-you are right

but if you come here or were here all your life and contribute nothing and never did, why should we pay for you?

why should we keep paying out and getting nothing back

The fear and desperation of dependency is real, it’s a plus for Obama and the dems this year. Though the GOP establishment is careful to ‘honor’ government’s parasitic children too.

Those who think the resentment of dependents is the same as the resentment of those who pay for it are ludicrous.

We may be past the tipping point for a return to America.

I did not mean to lump everyone in a certain category-just was amazed that obama can still be that close (or beating) romney in the polls-it doesn’t make sense

IMHO he should be at 20 percent and romney at 60% at least

I was not trying to judge anyone-I get a (very) small amount of gvt assistance as well-I just can’t find a job (so far)

Just thinking out loud-the polls just make no sense to me-how can obama be so even with romney when things are so very bad?

Many unionized employees, particularly public sector unions wouldn't consider voting for anything but a Democrat.

Then there are the "hard core democrats" who would vote for a dead man if he had a D after his name.

Add to that the race factor (yes, it is real for many).

And those brainwashed liberals who value animals over humans, environment over jobs, etc.

Not hard to get those groups to add up.

“So, a family takes care of grandpa and now they are scum in your eyes because grandpa gets Social Security? (pssst, most of us on FR think it’s acceptable for families to take care of their own).”

Yeah, and that means not doing social security and actually, “looking after your own”, not getting the state to look after your own for you.

Just lost my grandmother. My aunt and my mother spent 3 years looking after her after my father died. We put her in an assisted living facility after she fell and got sick. Looked after her.

NO SOCIAL ASSISTANCE, whatsoever. Why are we paying for your family?

Yeah, and that means not doing social security

That would be all well and good, if the government would let us decide not to "do" Social Security. Unfortunately, I haven't had that choice for the last 40+ years that they have been taking my money for it. If wanting to get some of that back before the system goes broke makes me scum in your opinion, I really don't give a damn.
