Texas will not expand Medicaid or establish a health insurance exchange, two major tenets of the federal health reform that the U.S. Supreme Court upheld last month, Gov. Rick Perry said in a Monday morning announcement.
"I stand proudly with the growing chorus of governors who reject the Obamacare power grab," he said in a statement. "Neither a 'state' exchange nor the expansion of Medicaid under this program would result in better 'patient protection' or in more 'affordable care.' They would only make Texas a mere appendage of the federal government when it comes to health care."
Perry's office sent a letter to U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Monday morning asserting his opposition, both to accepting more than a hundred million federal dollars over the next several years to put more poor Texas adults onto Medicaid, and to creating an Orbitz-style online insurance marketplace for consumers.

Water is the problem. Was bone dry earlier in the year. We have been getting occasional rain this summer. In fact, today there are lots of scattered rain storms. Once the reservoirs and lakes fill up, will have plenty of room.
The day I have to report to the IRS my health care insurance, is the day I rip up my US citizenship. Will consider myself a citizen of the Texas Republic at that point, for at least as long as Texas can hold out. After that, its the South Pacific for me.

By refusing to implement a state exchange, Texas may well have made the employer mandate (a penalty or tax of 3,000 per employee if the employer does not provide health insurance or if an employee decides not to use an employer’s health insurance) unenforceable in Texas. It will take litigation to prove the point. But it could be a winner.
Earlier today, I watched a Fox interview with Rick Perry. He said that expanding Medicaid would be like adding more passengers to the Titanic .

The one good thing Traitor John did do was prohibit such withholding.
In any-case that is why we have a legislation to lock in the good policy. Then Perry can go to Washington and tell them whatever they need to hear to help us recover as much of the money they stole as possible. Not that we have any intention of keeping perry’s “promises”.
We are dealing with a din of thieves, who have lied, cheated, and stole to get the power and money they now have. I have no problem with Perry doing some of the same to them to recover as much of that money & power as possible for Texans, in fact I expect it.
It is not a prefect solution but it will have to do at least until we have built the systems of resistance necessary to implement a better one.

I think you dream of a just federal employees in blackrobes. As John Roberts continues to demonstrate such uncorrupted men are rare and far between on the Federal bench.
It is nonetheless a wonderful dream.
Talk is cheap. Don't give excuses about your job or inconvenience. If it's so awful, get out. The longer you stay, the greater your sympathies are truly shown to lie with those you chronically complain about.
Orwellian? Gov. Perry aptly demonstrates his gift of understatement once again.

Is it a slam dunk? No. But the feds are aware of the problem and the IRS has tried to give itself authority to enforce the employer mandate by regulation. That’s a pretty thin argument. The rats goofed on the statute and did not authorize enforcement unless there is a state exchange. Normally, it would be fixed by mop up legislation. But no way they get that thru congress now.
It makes me mad the way Perry was dismissed here at FR.
