Harvard has appointed Vanidy Van Bailey as the Colleges first permanent director of bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender, and queer student life. Bailey, the assistant director for education at the University of California, San Diego, will assume the new position on July 16.
Last April, Dean of the College Evelynn M. Hammonds announced her intention to hire a full-time staffer dedicated to serving the BGLTQ community on campus.
In a statement to students, Hammonds said that the decision was based on recommendations made by the BGLTQ Working Group, which she created in October 2010 to evaluate BGLTQ experiences and needs at the College.
In an email, Bailey expressed excitement for connecting with BGLTQ students and staff at Harvard and said that the first task for the new director would be setting goals for the upcoming academic year.
At UCSD, Bailey oversees programs at the BGLTQ Resource Center and advises student organizations.
In September 2011, the College announced that Lisa Lee Forest of Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts would be its first director of BGLTQ student life. However, one month later, Forest turned down the position at Harvard for personal and professional reasons.

CORRECTION: July 3
An earlier version of this article used the pronoun "she" to refer to Vanidy "Van" Bailey, the newly appointed director of bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender, and queer student life. In fact, Bailey prefers not to be referred to by any gendered pronoun.

What’s the difference between Gay and Queer?
Or, perhaps I don’t want to know.
“Bailey prefers not to be referred to by any gendered pronoun.”
So I guess “it” is appropriate in this instance.
Placed in charge of Queers and perverts, I bet her mother is proud.
BWAAHAHAHAHA!
One wonders why college tuition costs continue to explode when school create more and more BS administrators who never set foot inside a classroom.
I agree, if it weren't from Harvard Crimson, I would assume this piece appeared in the Onion. I wish the "Gay rights" groups would settle on initials for their movement. I've heard GLBT, LGBT, GLBTQ, BGLTQ, etc. And why would "Queer" be used by gays to describe themselves? Don't they know what that word means? It would be like some "latino power" organization referring to themselves as "spics"
“In fact, Bailey prefers not to be referred to by any gendered pronoun.”
They picked their sodomy czar.
And how did “B” get pride of place before “G” and “L”? Don’t tell me it’s alphabetical, because then “T” would be last, after “Q”.
It looks to me like there’s been some sort of covert power struggle between the letters-— or too much mix in the mix-and-match. A sure path to STD -—and you end up with HIV.
Whoo boy, do an image search of Vanidy Baily and you'll see why.
Must be something in the water at Harvard?
They actually use not only the “bisexual” label, but “Queer”???
We’re dealing a bunch of filthy scumbags on the left. The only approriate response is an obcene one which can’t be printed here.
But I’ll clean it up. Somewhat. Shouldn’t there be directors for people who favor felatio, (straight) anal sex, masturbation, a million other things? For lots of people these are jsut as serious topics, lifestyles, emotional issues, etc.
The left is just defecating on us in public and society smiles and asks for more.
I'm getting hungry after posting that!
Just as well. I think the designation "it" is probably more accurate anyway.
I think the left has a huge acronym-generator hidden somewhere on the planet.
