North Carolina is a verdant state with long, sandy beaches. Its humid summers make air conditioning desirable: in fact, its 10 million people use more electricity than Indonesia's 237 million. Related

"North Carolina is unique of all the states," says Daniel Fine of the New Mexico Center for Energy Policy, "of having potential natural gas but having prohibited it". Onshore shale gas exploration is banned, and drilling off North Carolina's shores has been forbidden since 1990. Last year, the governor vetoed an offshore drilling law.
North Carolina is thus a microcosm of a long-standing inconsistency in the United States' approach to energy: voracious consumption combined with restrictions on production. The assumption is that others, less squeamish about the environment, will make up the difference.

IBTZ!!!
What a load. (Your comment, not the article.)
Oh my God!! That's horrible!!
EPA! Obama! Save Us!!!
greenwill produces green swill I think.
Wir haben zotbait.
But don't worry -- U.S. carbon dioxide emissions are now back to where they were in 1990, mainly because the economy is back to where it was in the Stone Age.
I never personally watched a ZIA (Zot In Action).
It sounds exciting !
“American produces almost three times the carbon dioxide of the typical Chinese. “
I’m doing my best to make it at least 10 times you green freak!
I love using the example of the Grand Canyon to expose their lie.
Hence our verdant land.
From the article: “Minimal petrol taxation and lack of climate policy contribute to American greenhouse gas emissions and energy use per person being among the world’s highest.”
That’s a sign of wealth and liberty. All the Americans who think otherwise please emigrate to the country of your choice.
Green is the new red. STHU you commie thug.
I just farted, does that piss you off?
ibtz.
greenwon’t save the planet from fictional boogiemen. greenwill destroy people and prosperity from the very real threat of onerous, dictatorial powers exerted by government over people. If that appeals to you, move to NY and let Bloomin idiot, who runs the city tell you that 18 oz of soda is an illegal commodity.
OMG! The Chinese aren't breathing enough!!! That must be why they're too stupid not to kill our pets and try to poison us with their exported chemical-laden foods.
IATZ, but I don't care.
“The average American produces almost three times the carbon dioxide of the typical Chinese.”
By shear numbers that is not even possible. They have 3 time as many people as we do. They don’t have the smog regulations one industry or cars that the rest of the world must adhere. Remember the Bejing Olympics - the smog was so bad that the govt ordered all of its citizen to stop driving, ordered businesses shut down factories, for a couple of weeks before the olympics started in order for the smog to disapate. And it still was way more smoggier (as if that is even a word) than LA ever looks. Why isn’t that ever mentioned?
You're a lying pile of crap.
From a satellite perspective you can see a cloud of pollution emanating from China which stretches across the Pacific. That cloud contains not only CO2, but also Carbon Monoxide and good old soot (straight carbon)...Talk about "carbon pollution".
Our cars emit CO2 and water vapor, essentially the by-products of clean combustion.
I don't care what the idiot liberal judges say...CO2 is not a pollutant...especially at a level of 4/100ths of a percent.
...limiting global warming.
It seems we're coming out of an ice-age, what the hell would you expect to happen, and why would you want to stop that (assuming you could)?
