The Carter ‘legacy’
Boston Herald ^ | July 1, 2012 | Boston Herald Editorial Staff

With his every utterance, Jimmy Carter continues to make us grateful that he was only a one-term president and, therefore, limited in his ability to do the nation lasting harm.

This past week Carter was spewing more nonsense on the op-ed page of the New York Times [NYT] — where else? And curiously he has chosen this moment to attack — although not by name — fellow Democrat Barack Obama. Of course, the president looks almost tough and sensible by comparison to the increasingly loony Carter.

And, yes, we realize that’s damning with faint praise.

Carter is losing his position as worst president ever. Carter attacked the construction industry, steel industry, petroleum... He destroyed my career plans as I had just graduated with a construction degree. Now 0bama has destroyed my retirement plans. Progressive? Froward?

“Of course, the president looks almost tough and sensible by comparison to the increasingly loony Carter. “

The author lost me there, I think Obama is far worse than Carter. Carter is a bumbling fool.

Carter accomplished one thing and I would have thought it impossible.

My Father was an old fashioned yellow dog democrat. He would vote for a yellow dog before he would vote for a Republican.

Well he voted for Reagan and never turned back, all thanks to Jimmy Carter.

Jimmah Cahtah destroyed the small to medium size coal mining industry, which kept the bigs at an honest level.

By the time he left office, nearly 90 percent of the < 200,000 ton/year coal operations, mostly family owned, were gone.

I was kind of hoping years ago Jimmuh would fall off the roof of one of his habitat houses. No such luck. He is still amongst us to haunt the living.

So it goes in every industry when socialists get in power. Next time you feel like complaining about the declining quality of the merchandise you have to buy, remember that big govt. + big bidniss naturally work together to squeeze out their little mom-n-pop competitors with taxes and regulation. Then the big guys can let their quality slip into the toilet with no bad consequences. For them, that is.

0bama is just King Jimmy the Second in that respect.

Of all of Carter’s boondoggles the one I hate worst is the giving away of the Panama Canal because the Chinese now control it.

The one I hate most is his throwing the Shah of Iran under the bus, leaving Iran to the lunatic Ayatollah Khomeini and his Islamic fanatics. Iran was our greatest ally in the Middle East next to Israel - look at where we are now with Iran, thanks to Carter.

“I never have believed that Jesus Christ would approve of abortions and that was one of the problems I had when I was president having to uphold Roe v. Wade and I did everything I could to minimize the need for abortions. I made it easy to adopt children for instance who were unwanted and also initiated the program called Women and Infant Children or WIC program that’s still in existence now. But except for the times when a mother’s life is in danger or when a pregnancy is caused by rape or incest I would certainly not or never have approved of any abortions.”

“I’ve signed a public letter calling for the Democratic Party at the next convention to espouse my position on abortion which is to minimize the need, requirement for abortion and limit it only to women whose life are in danger or who are pregnant as a result of rape or incest. I think if the Democratic Party would adopt that policy that would be acceptable to a lot of people who are now estranged from our party because of the abortion issue.” -Jimmy Carter, April 2, 2012 (on the Laura Ingraham Show)

The “worse president in U.S. history” is a distinction carter will fight to the death to retain.
