Rise in sea level can't be stopped: scientists

(Reuters) - Rising sea levels cannot be stopped over the next several hundred years, even if deep emissions cuts lower global average temperatures, but they can be slowed down, climate scientists said in a study on Sunday.

A lot of climate research shows that rising greenhouse gas emissions are responsible for increasing global average surface temperatures by about 0.17 degrees Celsius a decade from 1980-2010 and for a sea level rise of about 2.3mm a year from 2005-2010 as ice caps and glaciers melt.

Rising sea levels threaten about a tenth of the world's population who live in low-lying areas and islands which are at risk of flooding, including the Caribbean, Maldives and Asia-Pacific island groups.

It’s not the sea levels that are rising (or falling).

It’s that the ground moves up and down.

Meh. Let it rise. This house I'm in might be a valuable piece of riverfront property in a few decades.

I imagine it is time for folks to get on with their lives and stop pretending people control climate. There are not sea shells in Utah without reason.

The reason the media gets away with this, is that there are no laws against lying to the public. I wouldn’t piss on Reuters if it were on fire.

Sea level rising? No problem!

Obama can just sigh an EO saying it’s part of America’s new immigration policy, Holder and the CBC can declare it racist to discriminate against ‘water of color’, Roberts and the SC can call it a tax, the MSM will push it 24/7 and the problem is solved.

Ummm... is there a downside to the flooding of liberals and statists, paving the way for beachfront property for conservatives?

A lot of very bad climate research based on fudged data and manipulated computer models. Actual observations do not support this conclusion. Temperates have not increase in 15 years and sea levels remain remarkably stable.

So based on 30 years of data which was, in all probability, not a totally representative sample we are supposed to do what?

Remember that the major emerging economies, China and India, are exempt from climate control legislation because they are emerging economies.

I have to wonder what the ice coverage and sea surface temperatures were when the Vikings discovered and named “Greenland” and England had a viable vineyards and wine producing economy.

Is there a problem - more than likely. Is it correctable - probably not. The surface area of the North Atlantic is around 50,000,000 square miles, about 10% of the world's water surface and I have no idea as to its cubic volume. Remember any solution has to affect the entire cubic volume of the body of water we are talking about. a swimming pool is bad enough but the ocean?

Rising sea levels cannot be stopped

Completely correct.

You can't stop something that is not happening.

What sea level rise? No has proven there has been any. ALL their junk emotional liberal Luddite “strudies” have been “projections” of sea level rise based on the even more bogus “globull warming”.

I lived on an island that was 6 feet above sea level. The sea level has not risen in over 1,000 years.

This is the same liberal Luddites that claimed in 1968 that the Earth could not possibly sustain 4 billion people and that we would all be starving by now, yet, we are fat as can be and number well over 6 billion.

...increasing global average surface temperatures by about 0.17 degrees Celsius a decade from 1980-2010...

This is called cherrypicking the data to suit the hypothesis, and is intellectually dishonest. (If anthropogenic global warming actually existed, they would not have to cherrypick.)
