If roadside bombs and other hazards of war don't kill military dogs, senseless government regulations and red tape might. The United States is breeding 100 puppies a year to train for bomb sniffing and other soldierly duties, but many aren't making it back to happy homes because an obscure federal law classifies them as "equipment" rather than personnel -- and makes adopting them a financial and bureaucratic nightmare. A bill to require that the military ship the heroic dogs home and ease potential veterinarian costs for adopting families is currently bogged down in Congress, as dogs continue to be euthanized. In the meantime, at least there is an occasional happy ending.

If he actually *were* a biblical literalist, he wouldn’t be posting his unscriptural screed.
Ain’t no way you can weasel-word your way around this:

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
‘Heck, they haven’t even saved mine.”
Ah, the wisdom and discrimination of the dog.
If I had him as an overlord, I’d not be over inclined, either.
:)
[yet mine have saved me countless times...reckon I deserved it]
I was speaking to the pretension rather than the fact.
I know.
I just had to come by and “pinsch” it a bit.
;D
‘If you had been paying attention during the fight for Terri’s life, you would have found many of the people you are now attacking on this thread as the most vociferous and committed in her defense. (That defense going well beyond just words in many cases.)”
Boy, do I ever remember that blood fest.
At least two particular ‘ladies’ are probably signing up for the new death panels, right now.
I still stand by my position; Terri was brutally murdered in cold blood.
His dogs devotion brings tears to my eyes every time I see the one at his masters funeral.
Putting down dogs with this devotion?
Evidently these dogs have more soul than s bureaucrat.
(And maybe even one or two isolated FReepers.)
You clearly don’t understand the meaning or the context of Orwell’s famous quote if you think it applies there.
Why do you have so little respect for Orwell, a man, that you attempt to twist the meaning of that quote by ripping it out of context?
Agreed on that. I was angry, sad, outraged all in one and sickened that some “conservatives” had no problem with her life being ended like that — or her being denied water and food by calling it something above and beyond regular care. The base nature of humanity never ceases to frighten me. (Not so with animals, though! :))
Generally didn't work out real well for the humans, either.
But I still hate you all.
You may THINK you know something of Marine Corps history, but you’d be wrong. The term, “devil dogs” was applied to us by the Germans in WWI (Teufel hunden, or hounds from hell). Had nothing to do with borrowed dogs during WWII whatsoever.
Dogs are not and cannot be police officers, ever. How do they take the oath of office. It’s a ridiculous notion. If a dog = a cop = a human being, then cops who kill private dogs should face just as much hard time as someone killing a police dog.
On the other hand, dogs do save human lives and should NOT be killed when they are no longer needed.
(Of course I mean that in the nicest, most loving way possible.)
Let's snuggle.
Awwwww, Mongo straight!
“Them” = the Dobermanns.
Reading comprehension is your friend.
[and the “Devil Dog” nickname applied to Marines is apocryphal. the US media used it in conjunction with The Battle of Belleau Wood even though its first appearance in print was a full two months before the battle but it was never verified by any actual Germans. it is considered a “motivational nickname” which is fine, nonetheless]
No kidding.
This is so incredibly disgusting. The fix only requires an officer with a tiny bit of “hair.” That’s what those shoulder stars/bars are for. The easiest way , if they are “ ëquipment” is to declare them unserviceable and give them away ( to their handler) . Another way, ala General Patton, is to make them war trophies and award them, with paperwork, to the guy who served with them. These rules haven’t changed for at least half a century but it seems the availability of gonads has.
