You may THINK you know something of Marine Corps history, but you’d be wrong. The term, “devil dogs” was applied to us by the Germans in WWI (Teufel hunden, or hounds from hell). Had nothing to do with borrowed dogs during WWII whatsoever.

[and the “Devil Dog” nickname applied to Marines is apocryphal. the US media used it in conjunction with The Battle of Belleau Wood even though its first appearance in print was a full two months before the battle but it was never verified by any actual Germans. it is considered a “motivational nickname” which is fine, nonetheless]
