If you enjoyed Hope Sandoval, you might like Cat Power.
Cat Power - “Metal Heart”

Reminiscent of Melanie from the sixties if you're familiar, instrumentation is unusual, sort of atonal, fairly sophisticated beneath seemingly loose organization.

It’s good to see you, too!
I have enjoyed your story of Brahms.
Reading the story of his life brings more humanity to his music.
Thanks so much for all your hard work!

The year 1892 was to produce a lot of changes in the life of
Johannes Brahms. Jo was to turn 59, for one thing. Lisl von Herzogenberg died of her long time heart condition. Brahms had electric lighting installed in his apartment. During the summer, Jos sister died, and it shook him up, as it did Clara Schumann, who had been close to the girl.
The summer was spent in Bad Ischl again, and there was no more talk of retiring. He would write for himself now, and what he wrote were two collections of short piano pieces.
This one is bleak but with a slightly sunnier middle section.
Brahns: Intermezzo in A minor, Op. 116/2
A turbulent opening and a peaceful middle section.
Capriccio in G minor, Op. 116/3
This one sounds like a three-legged creature gallumphing along. The effect is created by using a 6/8 signature and placing the notes at positions 6-1 and 3-4.
Intermezzo in E minor, Op. 116/5
This is one of his greatest short pieces, a lullaby that will draw tears.
Intermezzo in E-flat, Op. 117/1
This piece has a wonderful sense of moving between darkness and light in its opening and middle sections.
Intermezzo in B-flat minor, Op. 117/2
This one is haunting, especially the passage in octaves.
Intermezzo in C# minor, Op. 117/3
