While Roberts has a point that we should elect better politicians, I would argue that it is, in fact, the Court's job to protect us from time to time; framing it as protecting us from ourselves rather than from those we elect is a distinction without a difference as the members of the Court swear, as do other elected federal officials, to support and defend the Constitution, not the people.

It looks like that is from 2008, but I don’t think things have drastically changed since then.
The immigration ruling was just as crappy as the healthcare one, in many respects. What Obama has done in the last 2 weeks to our border is frightening, and will have huge repercussions for our national security.

The only “freedom” people seem to understand now is the freedom to be as depraved as you wanna be. Why can’t they understand that if you’re not free to fail, free to be responsible for your own choices and decisions no matter what, you’re not free at all? It really is “bread and circuses”- as long as “the government” ensures their actual survival, they think they’re free because now they have the “freedom” to practice sodomy. Being a sodomite is no threat to the government! Being responsible for your own life is!
I got worried when he muffed the inaugural swearing in.
I’m not even a lawyer and I bet I could say it from memory.
It doesn’t matter what he did before - HE DID THE WORST NOW. Don’t tell me look at all the good he did when he just sold the country and our Constitution means nothing! Get your head out of the clouds. Unless you need to hide there.
“3 votes doesn’t constitute a judicial voting record....”

No it does not. However, the more relevant question is does it represent a turning point—a specify time when a formerly good person went over to the dark side for some reason. Benedict Arnold was a good person but he went over to the “dark side” (from the American perspective; no offense meant for my Brit friends). But Arnold’s treason had some motivation and reason behind it.
And I guess only time will tell if this has been a turning point or simply a short period of aberration. If it’s a turning point, my biggest question is exactly what make a firm believer in a Constitutional Republic suddenly change his beliefs. Why, Roberts, Why? We may never know.

There has been some speculation that that was done by prearrangement in order to conduct the real swearing in ceremony using Obama’s true name. Remotely possible.
Sure. That could very well be true. Even a murderer doesn’t have to commit the act more than once to be a murderer. So call the guy an a$$hole, which maybe he is.
But I like to know the WHY behind things. And repainting Roberts as a liberal is an intellectually dishonest exercise.
Good point.
Roberts also sided with the "liberals" in overturning the Stolen Valor Act. That may not have been a popular decision here on FreeRepublic, but it was the right one. In fact, I suspect Scalia, Thomas and Alito dissented on that one just to practice their writing skills ... and to make sure it wouldn't be a 9-0 decision. :-)
you keep your head in the clouds or sand - until you figure out who is intellectually dishonest. Go cry on what ‘he’ must be going through - you sound like a liberal yourself- more about someone’s ‘feelings’ than OUR COUNTRY!!
That's a good article by Krauthammer, but I disagree with him on one key point: The constitutionality of ObamaCare has only been upheld on the basis of the legal arguments that were brought in this particular case. There are other legal challenges in the works that will be brought on very different grounds, as more and more of ObamaCare's provisions are implemented (legally, nobody can challenge these until they take effect).
Well I must admit, I do eat a lot of Quinoa. Liberal I must be.
Good point. Ah well it’s probably high time to turn of FR and all other news! Sort of helps with the frustration after such a huge disappointment yesterday, but I could probably do more for myself by taking a good walk with the kids on this sunny day!
He wouldn’t have had to muff it to redo the oath in secret. If he didn’t use Obama’s legal name, the oath would have been invalid, and he could redo it later that day when no one was watching.
“For what reason —nobody who voted for him would care”

stier scheisse — Many of the idiots who voted for Obama in 2008 were actually foolishly voting for the fairy tale fictional version of Obama as Prince Charming that Obama and his handlers had created. The entirety of the REAL Obama has yet to be revealed—and he’s no fairy tale Prince Charming. He’s, in reality, much more like a hideous creature from Grimm’s Fairy Tales.
Nah -- Quinoa is pretty awesome it's the only 'grain' that's a complete protein in itself!
