I call for a Constitutional Convention (vanity)
Vanity | 06/29/2012 | Buffaloguy

I think it is time for the states to call for a Constitutional Convention. The Congress, the Executive and now the Supreme Court has overstepped their bounds.

For my first amendment:

Each Justice of the Supreme Court shall serve two terms only of two years duration. They shall stand for election by vote of the Electoral College.

Comments: As we see in this SCOTUS decision, the SCOTUS can do so much damage in such a short period that their terms should be reviewed every two years.

Additional Amendment:

Neither the Congress, nor the Executive nor the Courts in aggregate shall expend nor cause to be expended more than 15.6% of Gross Domestic Product in any one year, except in time of war. "Time of War" in this context shall be defined as those armed conflicts in which a Declaration of War has been passed by both Houses of Congress.

Comments: 15.6% has been judged to be an optimal tax rate: Minimum effect on business and maximum contribution to government coffers. This also requires Social Security to be taken from any government control and privatized so that the individual may manage their own accounts. Current returns on SS amounts to 1.4%. Bad, really bad.

What amendments would you like to see passed?

I think it is time to examine where we wish to go in the future and provide for the freedom of our children.

It's going to wind up being written by the New BlacKKK Racists, but that's OK, as long as your heart is in the right place.

You are referring, of course, to the Constitution's own ultimate remedy for protection of "the People's" rights in Article V.

What a marvelous document that original Constitution is. It relies, of course, on those Justice Story described as "its only KEEPERS" ("Commentaries on the Constitution. . . .").

We have a Constitution? Get outta town! Seriously? C’mon, you’re kidding me, right? Whodda thunk it! LOL

No need to amend it, it only gets ignored. Why, think of it. If we want a Constitution, we can have it but we must be taxed to pay for it.

Why not just scrape the recent excrement away and dust off the Constitution we have and use it?

Frankly, we do not live in a time where enough statesmen can be found who will refuse to write in self-interest and produce a document as well thought out as the one the Founders gave us.

SCOTUS first kicked Arizona, and then the rest of working-class America, squarely in the balls.

If we have a Constitutional Convention, we will not like the results. The liberals will prevail with their own version.

Yeah, then Ruth Bader Ginsberg can have her dream of a Consittution more like South Africa, and Obama can get rid of those pesky “negative rights” that limit what government can do “for” you.

Only after the shooting war determines what the outcome of that convention would be.

The current Constitution was written well, is clear as day, and if followed (minus the 16th and 17th amendments) would remain a near perfect framework.

The problem isn't that we lack a well written contract, the problem is that we lack an intellectually honest rule of law to enforce it.

We have nothing to loose with a constitutional convention? We have everything to loose as those that want to destroy this country will add all of their favorite items! I say not a good idea at this time.

We only need to repeal an Amendment or two, primarily the sixteenth and perhaps the seventeenth.

Don't expect that to occur until we correct our moral decline though. Until then, the wraths only get worse.

We don't need a constitutional convention. WAY TOO DANGEROUS.

We could pass amendments without a convention.

Specifically,

We don’t need a Constitutional Convention. We need to enforce The Constitution we already have - either through rule of law, or some other means.

Another one:

All laws passed by Congress shall apply to Congressmen and Congresswomen and their organizations.
