Obama wins big in Supreme Court health care ruling

The Supreme Court upheld President Barack Obama’s signature health care law Thursday, handing him a monumental legal victory, enshrining the centerpiece of his agenda and ensuring that the pitched political battle over the nation’s health care laws will continue through the November election.

In the court’s most consequential decision since it awarded the presidency to George W. Bush in 2000, Chief Justice John Roberts, a Bush appointee, joined with the court’s liberal wing to validate the entire law, including its controversial “individual mandate.”

In siding for the first time with liberals on a 5-4 decision, Roberts intertwined the legacy of his court with that of Obama’s presidency.

Obama won nothing except a ticket out of D.C. This will be the biggest tax increase on the middle class ever. He promised there would be no tax increases. He said this bill wasn’t a tax.

Well I think SCOTUS made the right decision. This is a tax and the government has the right to tax. Whether the law stands goes back to where it belongs - the people’s representatives.

Via the Atlantic Wire, “Mitt Romney’s spokeswoman said the candidate raised $300,000 off the ruling in the first hour after it was handed down.”

The only “up side” I can see to this is that the alleged “65% who loathe it” will get their asses out and vote on election day.

For all I know, that’s the method to the SCOTUS madness.

[or they’re just raving mad...pick one]

Won the battle, lost the war. This assures he will get steamrolled in November.

The damage has been done though. The door is open to unlimited amounts of mischief by future Congresses.

I went to the donate part of the Romney site and couldn't get it to load. It must be really busy for that to happen. Looks like I will wait until tomorrow morning.

I just listened to Mitt’s speech and I must say I am impressed. I am going back on my word not to vote for him and sit this out. It is now even more important to get behind this man. Sorry Jim Robinson but I’m going into my recycle bin and retrieve the Romney solicitation I received the other day.

This is a tax and the government has the right to tax.

I can understand the Government having the right to tax me if I enter into a transaction. For example, if I enter the workforce and earn income, they can tax the income. If I buy a home, then can tax the property value.

But this is a case where they are taxing me for failing to enter into a transaction. I cannot think of another tax like that. And what else can they tax me for not doing?

So Obama’s signature achievement was the enactment of a huge tax increase.

While they were pushing Obamacare through Congress, Obama and the Democrats repeatedly claimed that Obamacare was not a tax. Then, the only way to keep Obamacare from being thrown out as unconstitutional was to argue that it was a tax.

Yep. A great win for Obama. A great loss for the nation.
