Romney’s probably busy picking his jaw up off the floor like the rest of us. He probably had his speech all ready to pounce on a conservative victory, probably never even had a lose speech.
Don't be a glass chewer.
“That’s why this is a win. The SCOTUS disagrees with Obama - the ACA IS A TAX. As such SCOTUS cannot stop it. But the legislative branch can. That said the ruling is nuts - SCOTUS is saying the government is not making you do anything if you can refuse to do it and pay a fine. Horrible precedent but politically a win.”
No, this is a HUGE, EARTHSHATTERING LOSS. The politics matter very little now. The precedent that was set here is a complete transfer of our right to make decisions about our own lives over to Congress. So what if we have a better chance of beating Obama and repealing healthcare. Don’t you see that UNTIL THIS RULING IS REVERSED by a future Supreme Court, it means that any conservative government simply represents a government that’s more benevolent, and the same unlimited power will still remain for the next leftist that’s elected?
We have always hoped for some constraint, provided by the three branches, Obama and Pelosi destroyed that. This country has been moving down this road since Wilson so it has been longer than 50 years.
After Obama amnesty to almost a million — illegals will be the beneficiaries, as citizens fund it and resources are stretched
With a careful re-read of your initial post and its follow up, I’m finding myself praising you again. You are quite correct.
Good question. If it must be a tax then it has to be in the tax code. Is it?
REPEAL, REPEAL, REPEAL
You are right it is coercive. But all taxes are. Theoretically Congress can pass, and the president can sign, a 99 percent income tax tomorrow. What stops them isn’t the SCOTUS - it is US.
I wondered the same thing.
Yes, everyone needs to take a deep breath. The fight is far from over.
Ya got to love some of these comments...
It proves some people can be robbed and gang raped and not even notice.
If voting made any difference they wouldnt let us do it.

Has anybody heard what Neal Boortz has to say? I’m at work, can’t listen.
One problem...
The Senate is still run by Harry Reid.
Zerocare ain't goin' anywhere until we burn DC down around their ears.

I'm not sure where people are getting this. The court merely said, that by waving their hands, and calling it a tax, they ruled the law constitutional. Obamacare is already law. Nothing else needs to be done by congress except repeal. Of course, that's not going to happen, no matter what lies the republicans tell you in order to get elected.
IRS can put you in jail, right?
No, first they threaten you with fines or confiscate your property and sell it at a tax sale for whatever they can get.
If your lucky you declare bankrupsy and have seven years of bad credit.
Unless you came here illegally then you move to the front of the line.
Or, if you are a minority you get bonus points.
2+2+5
I agree with your take on this. Roberts was playing King Solomon on this ruling. He acknowledged that this beast of a law is the product of politics and the ultimate resolution will be the product of politics. He took away the Democrats’ ability to force this through under the illegal use of the Commerce Clause.
He basically sent it back to the House and said, ok. If you want this monstrosity to stand, go back and get it the legal way, via Congress’ unlimited ability to tax. This is not the battle the Democrats wanted, for obvious reasons. Ginsburg has already been cited as saying she is very upset the Mandate did not stand under Commerce Clause. This ruling is very bad for us, but we still have the ability to fight it if the people have the will. We need a new Congress and desperately need to defeat Obama. That is all we have left.
You're looking all around you, and you still haven't spotted the enemy? And if by chance you do, you don't know what to do?
... sigh ... please review American history 101.
