Justice Antonin Scalia needs to resign from the Supreme Court.
Hed have a lot of things to do. Hes a fine public speaker and teacher. Hed be a heck of a columnist and blogger. But he really seems to aspire to being a politician and thats the problem.
So often, Scalia has chosen to ignore the obligation of a Supreme Court justice to be, and appear to be, impartial. Hes turned judicial restraint into an oxymoronic phrase. But what he did this week, when the court announced its decision on the Arizona immigration law, should be the end of the line.
Not content with issuing a fiery written dissent, Scalia offered a bench statement questioning President Obamas decision to allow some immigrants who were brought to the United States illegally as children to stay. Obamas move had nothing to do with the case in question. Scalia just wanted you to know where he stood.
After this case was argued and while it was under consideration, the secretary of homeland security announced a program exempting from immigration enforcement some 1.4 million illegal immigrants, Scalia said. The president has said that the new program is the right thing to do in light of Congresss failure to pass the administrations proposed revision of the immigration laws. Perhaps it is, though Arizona may not think so. But to say, as the court does, that Arizona contradicts federal law by enforcing applications of federal immigration law that the president declines to enforce boggles the mind.
What boggles the mind is that Scalia thought it proper to jump into this political argument. And when he went on to a broader denunciation of federal policies, he sounded just like an Arizona Senate candidate.

E.J. Dionne is an elbow.
As opposed to Ruth Buzzi Ginsberg?
Hmmm, interesting that both have an evil twin.
Took the words out of my mouth.
And if a dozen others from the Old Gray Lady's OpEd page resigned too, that would be an even bigger plus.
EJ is not the brightest bulb. In this case, the majority said the federal government is responsible for enforcing the laws. In his descent, he specified where that argument fails..showing the federal government is ignoring the laws and not enforcing.
Liberalism, controlled by mocking and shame if you stray from its tight borders, is seen as normal by a whole generation of people. Why? Because they control the mass media.
I myself grew up thinking liberal = normal until I got some sense. I thought the NEWS was the truth.
Here, Scalia is defending freedom within sovereign borders and this WaPo idiot is defending — the liberals’ desire to trick more people into keeping them in power. Nothing more. That is what “immigration reform” is. They finally got through generations of family values to fool Latinos.
Is there nothing these people won’t do to protect their corrupt president?

Why shouldn’t he question Obama’s refusal to enforce immigration law particular on this case. Is it not the very essence of the case that if Arizona could fully enforce Federal immigration law that Obama’s refusal to enforce federal immigration law would become irrelevant?
I can’t think of anything more appropriate to bring up, as Obama’s actions are indeed at the very heart of the dispute for both sides.
Bah Fung Goo!
EJ Dionne and the rest of the messedupnbc “corpse” must give themselves a swirly in a post-chili-dog exodus toilet.
I wonder what Dionne’s response would be if Scalia called on him to resign?
Since Thurgood Marshall? I would at least go back as far as William O. Douglas.
EJ needs to return to singing “My Heart Will Go On” in Vegas
lounge acts.
Respectfully, you’re probably a little older than I.
Dionne ought get back on his meds.
Why so that they can become even more isolated from the people just like the president?
Frankly I think SCOTUS “judges” need to live with the edicts they issue, and as far as I know they already have marshal protection.
This is the best reason for Scalia eing on the court, Just to PO Dionne.

Yeah, one can never tell how Kagan, Breyer, Ginsburg or The Wise Latina will ever vote on any issue, huh EJ?
These affirmative action Jacksons don’t have an original thought, are poor excuses for the highest court in the land and are the worst appointments ever. What a disgrace they always vote in a bloc, never thinking for themselves. Same ol same ol with these losers.
Impossible to argue with what you say. Why else would it be so important who is president when it is time to replace a SC Justice.
If the decision had gone the other way and Scalia were a Dem appointee the brainless twit reporter would be calling him “courageous”.
