Listing the reasons why Americans should vote for him, President Barack Obama told an audience at a high school in New Hampshire on Monday that failure to subsidize abortions and contraception is the same as restricting access to those services.
In this election, on every single challenge that we face, youve got the final say, Obama told the crowd at Oyster River High School in Durham, N.H.
You can decide that instead of restricting access to birth control or defunding Planned Parenthood, we should make sure that in this country, women control their own health care choices. Thats up to you, the president said to applause.
Obama did not explicitly say that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney or any other Republican has proposed to restrict access to birth control.
However, Romney and congressional Republicans have opposed an Obama administration mandate that requires insurance companies to provide free abortifacients, sterilization and contraception, which Catholics and other religious denominations find morally objectionable.
Further, Republicans have supported cutting federal funding to Planned Parenthood, the nations largest abortion provider.
A recent Rasmussen poll shows Obama leading Romney in New Hampshire, 48 percent to 43 percent.
In his remarks, Obama also said Romney wants to keep our brave men and women in Afghanistan indefinitely. He suggested that Romney would discriminate against sick people, kick people out of the military just because of who you are and who you love, and deny citizenship to responsible young people just because theyre the children of undocumented workers.
In the presidents own words:
And, New Hampshire, the only thing that can break this stalemate is you. (Applause.) Is you. In this election, on every single challenge that we face, youve got the final say. Thats the amazing thing about our democracy.
You can decide whether we keep our brave men and women in Afghanistan indefinitely, like Mr. Romney wants to do, or whether we stick to the timeline that Ive set to finally bring our troops home. Thats up to you. (Applause.)
You can decide that instead of restricting access to birth control or defunding Planned Parenthood, we should make sure that in this country, women control their own health care choices. Thats up to you. (Applause.)
You can decide whether we keep Wall Street reform; whether ending taxpayer bailouts for Wall Street banks was the right thing to do; whether preventing insurance companies from discriminating against people who are sick is the right thing to do; whether over 3 million young people being able to stay on their parents health insurance plan is the right thing to do. (Applause.)
You can decide whether or not we go back to the days when you could be kicked out of the United States military just because of who you are and who you love. (Applause.) You can decide whether or not its time to stop denying citizenship to responsible young people just because theyre the children of undocumented workers -- (applause) -- who have been growing up with our kids and want to contribute to this country.
Its going to be up to you whether we continue seeing these elections where multimillion-dollar donations, one person writing a $10 million check -- whether that speaks louder than the voices of ordinary citizens. Its all up to you. (Applause.)
This is going to be a close election. And from now until November, the other side will spend more money than at any time in American history. And almost all of it will be on ads that tell you the economy is bad -- it's all Obama's fault. He can't fix it because he thinks government is always the answer; because he doesnt have the experience of making a lot of money in the private sector; or because he is in over his head; or because he thinks everything is just fine. (Laughter.)
Thats what the scary voices in the ads will tell you over and over and over again. Thats what Mitt Romney will say. Thats what the Republicans in Congress will say. And I give them credit -- they have a lot of message discipline. They just repeat over and over and over again the same thing. (Laughter.) Doesnt matter if it's true, they'll just keep on repeating. That's what they do.
But you know what, that may be a plan to win the election; its sure not a plan to create jobs. Its not a plan to grow the economy. Its not a plan to pay down our debt. It's not a plan to revive the middle class and restore the American Dream.
So, Durham, if you believe we need a plan for education and energy, for infrastructure and innovation; if you believe that our economy grows best when everybody has a fair shot and everybody is doing their fair share, and everybody is playing by the same set of rules -- (applause) -- then I'm going to need you to stand with me as I run for a second term as President. (Applause.) I'm going to need you. The country is going to need you. (Applause.)
I knew you could!
What a sick SOB.
He doesn’t want them to be “punished” with a baby after having sex in high school. He is disgusting and has no sense of propriety.
I wonder if his own daughters have been “educated” by Planned Parenthood yet?
Sure, women can make their own choices, but we DON’T have to pay for it. It is the same with Obamacare—why should we pay for something we don’t want and do not believe in.
By the way, maybe his young, unmarried mother should have had an abortion.
You only “subsidize” something if you want more of it.
Gonna suck to be hussein when he stands before the Lord at Judgement time.
All of the kids that might have been there should consider themselves lucky their moms didnt kill them off as a “choice”.
kind of hard to go to prom when you were ground up into a pile of mush before you were born.
"Ideas have consequences." Weaver
Deliberate destruction of life in the womb is no subject for self-promoting political power advocates. Such "choices" have potential consequences that may rob future generations of possible scientists, talented musicians and artists, and leaders whose ethical grounding might solve the world's problems. This president once described his depth of understanding on this subject as being "above my pay grade."
This political promotion before high school students illustrates that he was correct.
Did the faculty have the kids sing a song to their Dear Leader?
Maybe this assault on childhood is the petulant princeling's way of retaliating for the insult.
I would think school would be out by now — but was anyone required for class (maybe summer school?) to sit through this Marxist Kenyan’s speech?
Putting it like that just assumes that most women are sleeping around and have serial sexual partners. Women, married or single, in monogamous relationships would have a husband/boyfriend to help with the birth control choices and cost.
“Summary judgement”...
Seriously, though, anyone who chooses to not be with God will have his wish fully fulfilled.
Besides being unlikable and mean, Obama isn’t very bright. Parents might expect him to pull out a gay porno mag to show the little boys.
The easiest way for women to control their health care choices where pregnancy is concerned is to keep their legs closed, and that is a message at a high school that i could approve of.
What Obama is doing is suggesting they screw everything available and the Government will take care of them.
Not a good message to deliver to randy kids in High School.
If only we could make it retroactive and have BO’s mother use birth control so we would not have the POS as president.
The more the Demmies keep aborting and birth controlling, the less of them that can vote......ohhhhhh....I get it....no wonder why they want illegal immigrants.
