Obama 'pleased' with Supreme Court ruling on Arizona immigration law
Chicago Tribune ^ | June 25, 2012 | Kathleen Hennessey

President Obama said he’s “pleased” with the U.S. Supreme Court decision knocking down parts of Arizona’s controversial immigration law, and he quickly used the decision to call for comprehensive immigration reform and to tout his own recent move to curb deportations.

“A patchwork of state laws is not a solution to our broken immigration system – it’s part of the problem,” Obama said in a statement.

While the court’s ruling was not a clean sweep for the administration, it was strong enough for the president to claim victory and try to score some political points. Obama has been seeking to shore up his support among Latino voters, particularly those in the West. Part of that strategy is to keep up the talk about immigration policy – an issue that puts rival Mitt Romney in a tug-of-war between his base and a growing demographic.

“We will continue to enforce our immigration laws by focusing on our most important priorities like border security and criminals who endanger our communities, and not, for example, students who earn their education – which is why the Department of Homeland Security announced earlier this month that it will lift the shadow of deportation from young people who were brought to the United States as children through no fault of their own,” Obama said.

“I will work with anyone in Congress who’s willing to make progress on comprehensive immigration reform that addresses our economic needs and security needs, and upholds our tradition as a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants”

Right...soooo pleased that he’s advised the DHS to disregard AZ law enforcement in their legal application of the decision. Guess it depends on the meaning of the word “pleased”.

If he’s so pleased with it, why is he refusing to allow members of his administration to comply with the processing of illegal immigrants detected and reported under the Arizona law?

This guy and his ‘crew’ are such transparent liars.

This guy is furious concerning the allowing of law enforcement to demand proof of citizenship.

The decision isolates the President and his decision not to enforce the law as the problem. Our only remedy now is to get someone in the White House who would honor the oath of office.

I don’t see how this is a win for Obama. It places more emphasis, not less, on his penchant for skirting the law, including his recent executive priviledge decision.

“While the court’s ruling was not a clean sweep for the administration, it was strong enough for the president to claim victory...”

LOL. As someone said on another thread, the MSM (and msnbc in particular) never even mentioned the other details. They focused on the one issue only-cops asking about immigration status. Obama lost on the #1 issue, but since he “won” on the others, guess which ones are NOW the most important to the msm?

Uh oh. The dims are WAY off message here. Axelclod better get the talking points in sync.

Reid: Court ruling paves path to racial profiling

Pelosi: I share the concerns of President Obama and many legal organizations over the decision to leave in place the dangerous ‘show-me-your-papers’ provision. This provision of the law keeps the door open to blatant discrimination.

So if 0 is pleased, Harry & Nan are saying that 0bama supports 'racial profiling' and 'blatant discrimination'! Holy 'Removable Alien' Batman.

So he’s saying we now have a “patchwork of state laws”. The SC just ruled that we only have federal laws.

It’s really scary that someone this stupid is destroying this country.

He's right -- he should be pleased -- and to celebrate he just told Arizona that he is defunding the 287g agreement and won't be enforcing any immigration laws at all in Arizona. So take that. He's making an example of them since the USSC just sided with him. And what is their recourse to this now --- nothing. They have nowhere to go. The USSC just said don't bring it back here. The Executive branch can do what it wants when it wants.

This is unprecedented and idiots on the right, including conservative attorneys, are applauding it???? Wake up ---

In 2016, perhaps we can still have time to put someone in who will honor the oath of office in this respect; neither of the two main candidates this time are liable to do so.

I sure hope ObamaDeathCare Bill is shot down - the whole thing. I was reading it again yesterday and I saw NOTHING in it that would improve my health care.

If he’s so pleased, why is he doubling down and ordering ICE to refuse to cooperate with actions the AZ police departments are no longer able to do?

So what if someone moves into your house, while you are at work. They refuse to leave. They have no proof that they should be there. They insist on your feeding, clothing, educating them and paying for their health care/meds. They insist you give them a job and let them stay there in your home..
Well America is our home.
And this is now legal in USA.
What’s to keep them off your yard, porch, out of your house?

Rush said that if Obama will ignore the Rule of Law, the US Constitution, what is to force him to leave in 2016 IF he is re-elected this time?????? If he ignores the LAW all the time, why would he follow the 10th amendment
