Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to uphold part of the state's illegal immigration law is a victory for all Americans.
Despite the court striking down key provisions of the statute Monday, Brewer says the heart of the law can now be enacted.
The court ruled that one part of the law requiring police to check the status of someone they suspect is not in the U.S. legally could go forward. However, the court ruled against provisions, including arresting people on minor immigration charges.
Brewer says law enforcement that use the law to violate a person's civil rights will be held accountable.
Critics of the law say it allows police officers to racially profile people.

Guess that rules Obama out.
I really don’t know what to make of this. The part that was upheld IS a victory, only if the Federal government is enforcing the Federal laws that were duplicated under the AZ law. Else wise, seems like we are back to where we started.
I’m concerned with the part that was struck down ... It seems that the political preferences of the Executive Branch can override congressionally enacted laws ... ??
Does anyone know who the rude reporter was that kept yelling at her like a child? I was appalled.
We watched this while eating lunch.
My wife, not usually political and seldom says much at all but having an uncanny ability to get the big stuff and state the eventual outcome in pithy ways, gasped at what Brewer said, covered her mouth with both hands and said, “This is awful. Obama will have to retaliate against her.” I felt a chill.
I think what happened today is terrible. Both sides are declaring victory. Both sides now feel they are justified in any action they take by a ruling of the Supreme Court and that whatever action they take in this regard is supported by the law. Only horrible consequences usually attend such a situation.
No way to sugar coat this, we lost. There is no more rule of law in this country and IMO, people should feel free to just regard the laws they wish to regard. If the place unravels, so be it but his is what happens when one elects a dictator and those in the legislature kowtow to special interests.
Order, the rule-of-law and the Constitution lost and then we lost. Not to pick nits, you are correct, we lost I think. All of us lost. I think this s anarchy. Justice is no longer blind. I’ll give an old friend attribution for this written today:
I think were seeing a breakdown of the independent judiciary. The recently-appointed justices have left no doubt in their interviews that ideology would be their substitute for intellect. This decision pretty well is reflected in the fact that the parts of the Arizona law which totally line up with federal law were rejected as unconstitutional. Say what?
This doesnt bode well for court symmetry. The court is even more teetering on the edge of a chasm here and the so-called independent justices arent incisive enough to cut through the muddle of ideological cant. I think the Supremes are going to be tearing themselves up in the next year or so.
Expect more hung decisions or rejections to review, as Roberts just declines to take on cases which he knows will subject the court to even more rancorous inside rants from the wise latina and the rest of her ilk.
‘Only horrible consequences usually attend such a situation.’
Yep

That scares me. A lot.

That is the post of the month!
Thanks.
I agree mostly with Brewer here.
Since AZ will still be allowed to enforce immigration law...AZ can still go and pass laws that SCOTUS, Hispanic Racist Groups, White Guilt Liberals, etc...cannot or will not overturn
I believe that states need to adress Illegal Aliens via a Human Trafficking Law...which includes anyone hiring, transporting, giving aid to, someone here illegally. Such a law being challenged by Liberal and Hispano-Racist groups would meet a lot of bad PR and “You support Human Trafficking”. The courts would have a hard time overturning since Human Trafficking with one state is not a Federal matter
Spin from a phony.
This reminds me of the clinton murder list. Why are democRATS always so evil?
Wish I had an answer.
I know. It was a rhetorical question anyway.
Clearly this was before her staff told her that Obama's Homeland Security was cutting off funding for immigration enforcement cooperation in the State of Arizona, essentially declaring it an open state.

Seriously, put them on a bus, (charter plane?) drive them to DC and drop them off in front of Homeland Security. Then drive home. Since deadheading is costly, one could always advertise for paying customers on the ride back to Az.
The majority of undocumented Democrats are unlawfully working under someone elses S S N. I don’t know why they don’t have a state felony statute that they can use to make it a state matter. Conviction for a felony should bar them from ever being given citizenship or at least from legally voting. Get the conviction first and then call the feds for deportation
