For the first time in history of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops has declared a Fortnight for Freedom in direct response to the attack on the Catholic Church and religious freedom by the Obama administration. The US bishops are asking the faithful to pray, say the Rosary, fast, sacrifice, take action and attend rallies in support of religious freedom. The Fortnight began on the Feast of Saints John Fisher and Thomas MoreJuly 22and will continue through July 4th.
Most Reverend William E. Lori, Archbishop of Baltimore, fired the opening shots on Sunday. This homily was posted by the Baltimore Archbishop on the US Bishops website.
**snip**
Obama declared war. He never expected this.

You could replace “Catholic” with “Christian” and the point would still hold.
Sadly, if it weren’t for abortions and birth control the Church would have no problem with obamacare. The USCCB laid down with dogs and are now waking up with flees. I wish I’d kept the bulletin insert our former bishop created for the 2008 elections. He wrote that Catholics should keep in mind the universal right to affordable healthcare and the understanding that no human is illegal.
I welcome all our brothers and sisters in Christ to pray this prayer with us:
O God our Creator,
Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit,
you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world,
bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel
to every corner of society.
We ask you to bless us
in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty.
Give us the strength of mind and heart
to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened;
give us courage in making our voices heard
on behalf of the rights of your Church
and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.
Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father,
a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters
gathered in your Church
in this decisive hour in the history of our nation,
so that, with every trial withstood
and every danger overcome
for the sake of our children, our grandchildren,
and all who come after us
this great land will always be one nation, under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Perfectly stated.
I’ll be fasting and going to Mass, on my way to church right not
That’s true!
now not not
Pretty much Obama has driven the Catholics away from the Democrats.
Even brought up Thomas More saying he was willing to give up his life for what he believed in, when we are only being asked to speak up for our FReedoms.
Thanks for the additional post. Heartening.
On the other hand, there was no mention of ANYthing at the 5:30 Mass in Northern Virginia I attended. The Bulletin contained a flier. That was the whole effort. (The sermon, on St. John the Baptist, might have been titled “What’s in a Name,” not a word connecting John’s proclaiming of the coming of Christ with anything the Bishops are trying to accomplish.)
actually thats why the readings and Gospel were based around John the Baptist this weekend- the man beheaded because of his beliefs...
We can't either.
Seriously, the liberalism that crept (or stampeded) into the American Church in the 1960s was premised on a misguided "compassion" that confused Jesus's teachings with communism, or at least socialism.
Prayers for brave Catholics - they'll need it. Liberal elites fight back - they fight dirty - and they're well funded.
“Sadly, if it werent for abortions and birth control the Church would have no problem with obamacare”
My bet is that a goodly number of “catholics” still have no problem with abortion and birth control—if they’re anything like my mother who, I imagine, will have signs in her yard once again for the LIAR in chief.
Yes, he brought up John the Baptist, John Fischer, and Thomas More during the homily.
