29 guns removed from the streets during Bradenton Police Department's buy-back
Bradenton Herald ^ | 18 June 2012 | Richard Dymond

Perhaps nothing is as sinister-looking as a sawed off shotgun, whose main mission in life is to inflict damage with a wide spray pattern of buckshot.

But three of these shotguns with shortened barrels and one sawed off .22-calber rifle were right out in the sunlight, laid side-by-side on a folding table during a gun buy-back conducted by the Bradenton Police Department.

When it was over, the department took 29 weapons off the street during its 2012 annual Father's Day Gun Buy-Back Program at two sites Sunday, said Sgt. Eddie Weldon of the Bradenton Police Department.

The department received 18 revolvers, including a .357-caliber Magnum by Smith & Wesson valued at around $400, a .38-caliber former police-issued gun and a .22-caliber handgun.

There were nine rifles received, including the three sawed-off weapons.

There were also two semi-automatic handguns turned in, including a Lorcin .380-cali

ber semi-automatic valued at about $500, which could fire eight or nine rounds with the magazine that came with it, Weldon said.

"Overall, I would say it was very successful," Weldon said of the buy-back.

"He is in Ca.

Even private sales have to go though a licensed gun dealer."

Oops, Check your local laws, I forget private sales are forbidden some places. Gun shop or pawn shop is the place for you in Ca.

thanks mylife

However, the state line is not far away.
Once OUTSIDE Kalifornia, they have NO jurisdiction.
It is PERFECTLY LEGAL to sell your firearm to any licensed gun dealer OUTSIDE Kalifornia.
It is NOT legal to sell directly to a private party outside Kalifornia.

No problem.

Ca has really changed since I lived there.
You used to be able to buy guns at the Scottish Rite Temple for cash on the barrel head.

Never sell a firearm across state lines without an FFL

They did have a picture gallery at the website. At least a couple of the shotguns were definitely sawed-off.

The best place by far to sell a gun around here is the local community paper. No charge for 5 lines in the "super saver" section and every item is within an hours drive.

Minnesota has its share of silliness, but we can still freely trade arms for the most part.

No, perfectly legal to sell across state lines, to a licensed dealer, including pawn shops and gunsmiths.
Some old guns are worth more in parts than whole!

Not legal to sell across state lines to a private party.
Unless the the gun is a pre-1898 antique.

“No one turned in an assault rifle or automatic weapon, which were worth a $75 Bealls gift card.”

I wouldn't turn in this for a $75 gift card!

Could you even fathom someone turning in a class full auto worth $25k for $75?

As I said, across statelines you must use an FFL.

No matter what state you reside in.

If it’s pre 1898 you can sell in to any one in the US and personally ship it via USPS legally (Not sure about HI or AK)

Did not see the gallery, nice of them to paper over actual felonies!

I wonder how many of these “Buy Back” guns were stolen, and will any effort be made to determine that?
If found to be stolen, what chance they are returned to the rightful owner?

Yes, I know the answers, no theft check, and none!

As it should be.

They forgot the decimal point. A Lorcin is worth about $5, and it might fire eight or nine rounds with the magazine. They obviously didn't get any photogenic AK47s to show off.

All gun turn-ins in Detroit feature an AK47, even if they have to bring one from the evidence locker. The rest of the haul is mostly trash.

Still, good on the Bradenton PD for getting the junk off the street. People could step on them, and break an ankle, otherwise.

I’m series; I pay the going rate for gun buy-backs around here ($50 Meijer gift card— I’ll make it Wal-Mart if you don’t have a Meijer by you).

Not to be argumentative, just clear.
So long as the receiving party holds an FFL, no FFL is required at the sellers end.

UPS, Fed-Ex, etc. may claim so, but it’s not true.
Long guns may be shipped via USPS, if you can find a postal clerk that follows the actual regulations.

Well, All I an saying is that our friend should contact an FFL holder in Ca, and that anyone selling across state line should as well.
