Perhaps nothing is as sinister-looking as a sawed off shotgun, whose main mission in life is to inflict damage with a wide spray pattern of buckshot.
But three of these shotguns with shortened barrels and one sawed off .22-calber rifle were right out in the sunlight, laid side-by-side on a folding table during a gun buy-back conducted by the Bradenton Police Department.
When it was over, the department took 29 weapons off the street during its 2012 annual Father's Day Gun Buy-Back Program at two sites Sunday, said Sgt. Eddie Weldon of the Bradenton Police Department.
The department received 18 revolvers, including a .357-caliber Magnum by Smith & Wesson valued at around $400, a .38-caliber former police-issued gun and a .22-caliber handgun.
There were nine rifles received, including the three sawed-off weapons.
There were also two semi-automatic handguns turned in, including a Lorcin .380-cali
ber semi-automatic valued at about $500, which could fire eight or nine rounds with the magazine that came with it, Weldon said.
"Overall, I would say it was very successful," Weldon said of the buy-back.

My only gun is a piece of junk (9mm semi) that I got in my 20’s... don’t really want it anymore (kids in my house, hasn’t been fired in 15 years.. and not expecting the inquisition).. Anyone recommend a good place to get rid of one besides wait for one of these programs?

These insipid and stupid events always make me sick to my stomach. Pure liberal idiocy. The PD’s from the 1920’s thru the 1950’s had “gun buy-back” programs, they were secret hit squads directed specifically at the underground gangs and mobsters. Slaughter the gangs and confiscate the guns.
Civil liberties violations aside I would bet a lot of money that the PD’s back then had an infinitely more successful time getting guns off the streets with those directed programs and that was before there were any real 2nd amendment restrictions.
Heck, my PD still has guns from the 40’s and 50’s that were taken from (dead?) gangsters.
If police could be trusted to successfully target only those who need targeted much like in the 1920’s-1950’s we could have success today just like back then. However, there are too many stupid and affirmative action hires in law enforcement and the ACLU has designated the criminals as victims.

I want to sell a gun to another person, i.e., a private party transfer. Am I required to conduct the transaction through a licensed California firearms dealer?
Yes. Firearm sales must be conducted through a fully licensed California firearms dealer. Failure to do so is a violation of California law. The buyer (and seller, in the event that the; buyer is denied), must meet the normal firearm purchase and delivery requirements. “Antique firearms,” as defined in Section 921(a)(16) of Title 18 of the United States Code, and curio or relic rifles/shotguns, defined in Section 178.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations that are over 50 years old, are exempt from this requirement.
Firearms dealers are required to process private party transfers upon request. Firearms dealers may charge a fee not to exceed $10 per firearm for conducting a private party transfer. Example:
For a private party transfer involving one or more handguns, the total allowable fees, including the DROS, safety, and dealer transfer fees, are not to exceed $35.00 for the first handgun and $31.00 for each additional handgun involved in the same transaction.
For private party transfers involving one or more long guns, or a private party transfer involving one handgun, the total allowable fees, including the DROS, safety, and dealer transfer fees, are not to exceed $35.00. The dealer may charge an additional dealer-service fee of$10.00 per each additional firearm transferred.
