J.C. Penney has lost its way--and in the process, its profits! "Is J.C. Penney trying to become GayC Penney?" ABC News is asking--and so are customers. In the last several months, the company once known for its Christian roots has undergone a radical transformation. It started last year, when J.C. Penney hired Ellen DeGeneres, a vocal proponent of same-sex "marriage," as its spokesperson.
The choice drew fire from several people who thought DeGeneres was a departure from the store's longstanding values. When organizations like American Family Association's One Million Moms complained, J.C. Penney's new president, Michael Francis, stubbornly dug in his heels. On Mothers' Day, the company shocked consumers with a blatant endorsement of homosexuality in an ad that featured two moms. The grassroots protested again. J.C. Penney responded with another same-sex ad for Father's Day. Underneath, the text read, "What makes Dad so cool? He's the swim coach, tent maker, best friend, bike fixer, and hug giver--all rolled into one. Or two."
As Ford Motors will tell you, siding with radical homosexuals has its price. And in J.C. Penney's case, the cost is about $163 million. According to the Wall Street Journal, J.C. Penney's stock "has lost more than a third of its value since a disastrous earnings report in mid-May, when Penney's posted a $163 million loss and said sales fell 20% in the first three months of its fiscal year." CEO Ron Johnson also admitted that Father's Day sales were a bust. "Penney's shares fell 8.8% Tuesday to their lowest level in a year, [and] store traffic was down 10%."
Obviously, the company's far-Left approach is driving away shoppers--and its executives. Michael Francis was fired after just eight months on the job. Whether J.C. Penney will learn from its mistakes is yet to be seen. But its freefall should serve as a warning to other companies who are itching to jump on the same-sex bandwagon. Catering to homosexuals may earn you a pat on the back from the Human Rights Campaign, but in the long term, it's bad business. Americans want corporate neutrality in the culture wars, and when they don't find it, they'll go elsewhere--like my family has done with J.C. Penney. Shoppers are shrewd enough to know that speaking up is important--but sometimes what speaks the loudest is their wallets.
Let this be a cautionary tale to General Mills, Starbucks, and other corporations on the wrong side of the marriage war. This is a political wager that companies will lose. Even Target is putting its bulls-eye on traditional families by introducing a new line of same-sex merchandise. One hundred percent of the proceeds are dedicated to putting Christian adoption agencies out of business. Wow, I wouldn´t have thunk it. I´ll steer clear of the Penny store. I bet J.C. Penny the founder is rolling in his grave.
99% of JC Penney customers never saw or heard about the “gay father” ad. Sales & stock price are nosediving because JC Penney customers are coupon addicts, and the new management attempted to kick them off it cold turkey.
they will have to double down on solid values promotion for six to twelve months before I enter the store again
I suggest others do the same
make them an example for others
My memories of J.C.Penney involve awful sweaters from Grandma on Christmas and Birthdays, and Mom taking us kids there for “good” clothes.. (Everyday clothes came from Sears or Wards catalogs..)
Except for the occasional short-cut into the Mall, I haven’t set foot in a Penneys since I graduated High School...
I read that, too, but now it’s FReepers’ jobs to get the news of the in-your-face Gay C Penney provocations to our families and friends.
What could they have been thinking?
Us normal people have been so tired of the queer perverted agenda being forced upon us, that JCP became the lightning rod of our frustration. May this be the turning of the tide that will begin to flush the filth out of this nation.
When customers would complain to management about the direction the store was taking, the managers would say, “THANK YOU” and walk away while the customers were in midsentence.
Not that the managers could do anything but they could have been polite to the people who are paying their paychecks.
MIL and I don’t care what they do. The board trusted this guy and backed him while he was purposefully attacking the very base that made that company great and shoving a homosexual agenda in our faces. Oh, and the clothes look cheaply made.
Dinosaur watch.
I’m not sure if we can generalize what happened to JC Penney. Each retailers have their distinct demographic hence responses are different. JC Penney’s customers are middle class to lower class population that in general are more religious and concern about values. So, any boycott due to value customers may have big impact. Target’s demographic is a bit higher (not the 1%) but is still very different from JC Penney. Not to mention the caramel-machiato, mac-loving crowd that frequent Starbucks. Would their responses be the same as JC Penney crowd?
The problem is that it’s impossible to boycott a store that doesn’t have anything you want and therefore you wouldn’t shop at anyway. None of my friends have shopped there in ages and neither have I.
It’s the GAY THING!!!! I will NEVER shop at PENNEY’S!!!
They ought to fire the Board of Directors, who hired him, as well, or they'll make the same mistake again - and wonder why things tank. Some managements are as thick as the liberals.
Today's revisionism tries to erase any mention of the philosophies or principles of Christias that made them the people they were.
A small part of a bio I found on the internet:
"Penney liked being called "The Man with a Thousand Partners, " a phrase he used in the title of an autobiography. He claimed that "the ethical means by which my business associates and I have made money is more important than the fact that we have achieved business success....
"After leaving the presidency of the company in 1917, Penney spent more time on his outside interests. One was cattle breeding. He ran a 705-acre farm in New York state from 1922 to 1953 raising purebred Guernsey dairy cattle. He operated another farm in New York state and eight or nine farms in Missouri. Penney was also involved with many charitable and religious endeavors and was a prodigious speaker. He was active in the Young Men's Christian Association, Boy Scouts, National 4-H Club, Allied Youth Inc., and Laymen's Movement for a Christian World. He founded a home for retired religious workers in Florida in memory of his parents. Although he had only a limited education, he was the recipient of 17 honorary degrees and many other honors, awards, and citations."
"Penney's rise to fame and fortune was not an unmarred success story. A major financial disaster struck in the 1929 stock market crash. Penney lost $40 million when several banks from which he had borrowed foreclosed on loans secured by his personal holdings of stock. He let his servants go and wound up weakened in spirit and health and facing a $7 million debt at the age of 56. But Penney was able to start over again with borrowed money and soon regained control of his "empire." In his later years he reflected: "I believe in adherence to the Golden Rule, faith in God and the country. If I were a young man again, those would be my cardinal principles."
Hope and change....Hope they go broke....Keep the change!!
After going gay, wouldn't they get twice as many?
Stay away from them. They are contagious. They transmit more than just diseases of the body, but of the mind, and spirit/heart.
