The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the constitutionality of President Barack Obama's health care law within the next week, and House Speaker John Boehner has issued a pre-emptive warning to fellow House Republicans if parts of the law are struck down: Forget about celebrating.
In a memo sent to his entire caucus Friday, Boehner warned members not to gloat over what most Republicans would see as a victory.
"[I]f the Court strikes down all or part of the president's health care law, there will be no spiking of the ball," Boehner wrote in the memo. "Republicans are focused on the economyand under President Obama's policies, our economy is struggling. We will not celebrate at a time when millions of our fellow Americans remain out of work, the national debt has exceeded the size of our nation's economy, health costs continue to rise, and small businesses are struggling to hire."

I’ll spike the damned ball if I want to!
Freakin’ First Amendment Killjoy!
T-E-B-O-W
Still sad he got traded from my Broncos.
... Well I'm spiking my ball
... So fine me!
i’m going to be outside waving my flag, huzzahing, and honking my horn all day. especially in the face of liberals.
we have fought tooth and nail, at first in the pitch black of tyranny without hope, alone against republicans and democrats for 4 long years.
we deserve to camp out and celebrate in the end zone if this miracle comes to pass.
So it doesn't have anything to do with the voters?
And we shouldn't encourage politicians to be responsible when they can be?
“”Republicans are focused on the economyand under President Obama’s policies, our economy is struggling. “
Then How About explaining WHY and HOW ObamaCare dumped the economy into the toilet and Spiking O’Care into the toilet in its place Does call for a massive celebration?
Stupid, it’s not just the Breakfast of Democrats.
Oh, I dunno. A simple “We won. Deal with it.” would suffice for me.
“Focusing on the bad economy is eroding Zero’s numbers.
If our side gets too ecstatic over an Obamacare win, we lose focus”
I don’t understand this whatsoever. Obamacare is tied very intimately to the economy in Republican and Democrat minds. We wouldn’t want to public to miss what a big deal its defeat would be. Nor would we want to, God forbid, silently comply with the Dems’ inevitable whining, lest they manage to tie the inevitable bad economy in November to the the partisan conservative SCOTUS’ retrogressive activism.
The way we avoid this, the only way, is by throwing Obama’s unpopular healthcare law back in his face and celebrating the fact that we denied him the chance to make the economy even worse. Which isn’t to say if we don’t Obama will have it all over the Do Nothing pubs. But in the least we would have lost a weapon with which to beat him.
..better, why I won't vote for a lib , moderate, or a RINO
That’ll work for me too!
After all the suffering Americans have gone through for the last 4 years, all the havoc wrought on our values and Constitution, all the inane and constant comments from the left, the daily I cant believe he did that/said that etc. etc. - finally (hopefully) we see some relief - and you wont spike the ball?
SPIKE THE BALL from the tallest building in the country. That would be in Chicago right? Cool.
It would be major party time. Dance in the streets party time.
I always keep a bottle of champagne chilling in case something actually goes the RIGHT way in this country...I had it for quite a while, of course. :-)
Personally, if that piece of crap is found unconstitutional I will be dancing on my front porch and yelling Hoooray! Boehner can do what he finds appropriate.
You noticed that, too. When Barry was signing, he had a major smirk on his face that was extremely annoying. Payback will be sweet.
“we shouldn’t encourage politicians to be responsible when they can be?”
Not celebrating is not the adult thing to do. Adults are, again, not angsty teens who cry to their parents that they don’t want to go to school because everything sucks. Adults understand what a bad thing is Obamacare and what a good thing it would be were it struck down. Or, on the other hand, what sort of a bad thing it would be if it were struck down in the wrong way.
No more than like this from 2004. : D
I can recall the Dems celebrating on the floor of the House when Obamacare passed without a single Rep vote. Boehner is a disgrace.
Kudos to the first Repub that gets caught on tape saying “this is a big f***ing deal”.
By the way, since when did spiking the ball come to mean the same as resting on your laurels? To spike the ball is not to declare ultimate victory. All it means is that you scored a touchdown, which is a good thing in itself whether it confers go-ahead points or you’re still down by 50 points.
Perhaps Boner means we shouldn’t spike the ball on the five yard line, or something.
Not celebrate a victory for American law? Get that spineless RINO the heck out of here!
