Hypothetically, if Marco Rubio were not an American citizen and could not provide food for his family, he says he would cross the border illegally to come to the United States.
While discussing immigration policy in his new memoir, An American Son, Rubio called for "common decency" in dealing with undocumented immigrants and said that if put in a similar position as those who are fleeing destitution, he would break the law, too.
"Many people who come here illegally are doing exactly what we would do if we lived in a country where we couldn't feed our families," Rubio writes in his book, which went on sale Tuesday. "If my kids went to sleep hungry every night and my country didn't give me an opportunity to feed them, there isn't a law, no matter how restrictive, that would prevent me from coming here."

It is not true that both of a US-born person’s parents have to be born in the US. They could be born in Ethiopia, and the baby is still US Citizen, able to be President of the US.
Some of us had ancestors who fought the King’s army back in 1776.
Others come from family that picked up and ran when a ten cent communist wanted to take over their country.
I am questioning the validity of laws that violate Natural Laws and Natural Rights. But I am only espousing the principals of The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America.
. . . to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them
. . . deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,
(The majority is not granted the authority to make unjust laws, i.e. laws that violate Natural Rights.)
Rubio, in his statements, shows that he understands both sides: our civil law MUST have as its foundation the Natural Law. He has the courage to point out the problems that occur when this isn't the case, and he is trying to find a legal solution to rectify the problem.
"I mean, if you do something that somehow encourages illegal immigration in the future, it's counterproductive. On the other hand, it feels weird to deport a valedictorian who has been here since they were four years old and have done well in school. So, trying to find the balance there, that is important," Rubio told Sean Hannity Monday night. "What the President did by ignoring the Constitution, ignoring the Congress, makes it harder to find that balance, not to mention that it's offensive to the constitutional principles of our republic.
"You know, on the one hand, we do have a significant illegal immigration problem. It has to be confronted. It has to be solved. We cannot be the only country in the world that does not enforce its immigration laws. On the other hand, we have some very compelling human stories like the cases of these young people who have been here their whole life, who've grown up here, brought here at a young age, through no fault of their own, and it touches your heart to hear these stories. And trying to find a reasonable balance that honors both our legacy as a nation of immigrants and also with the legacy as a nation of laws is not easy.""

Consider for example that proposition the Scottish philosopher Thomas Reid regarded as one of the truly "first principles" we draw from the logic of moral judgment itself, a principle I've restated in this way: that we do not hold people blameworthy or responsible for acts they were powerless to affect. That principle may cover a wide variety of things where people really had no causal powers over their condition or their acts and should not be held culpable. We may argue in different cases as to how powerless or incapable people actually were, but no one doubts the validity of the principle
” It became clear that conservative values and the rule of law were mere political props towards using family to justify the wholesale importation of Hispanics over the long haul.”
I heard him interviewed by Geraldo Rivera a few weeks ago. Rubio and Rivera were like best buds when it came to illegal aliens.
“Something like that will have to be done eventually but Im against doing anything until weve figured out a way to secure our borders.”
‘Securing the border’ is a distraction. You have to deport the foreign nationals who are living here illegally or you accomplish nothing. Any politician who advocates ‘securing the border’ but who is unwilling to deport all who are here illegally is just one more member of the treason lobby.
Well said.
Are you really trying to confuse legitimate asylum cases with people coming over here to leech off our economy?
So what? If we excuse everyone who would do that, then we’d have a population of 7 billion in the US and we’d be the worst 3rd world hell hole on the planet.
Repeat it loud and repeat it often. Marco Rubio IS an anchor baby. Why wouldn’t we expect him to support illegal immigration? He even lied about his family history, falsely claiming that his parents were fleeing a Communist government, when they came here before Castro took over.
Most conservatives just got conned by his baby face and a desire to pander to hispanics.
Rubes is hurting his VP chances, unless he’s counting on Romney being stupid.
Hispanics are obsessed with immigration. I know this by tuning into the 6PM news hour on any Spanish language TV network. They devote lots of time to the latest happenings on the US Mexico border, deportations, Dream Act, amnesties plus how to get in here in general. Legally and illegally

Rubio was born 1971 in Miami, Florida,[6] the second son and third child of Mario Rubio and Oria Garcia. His parents were Cubans who had emigrated to the United States in 1956 and were later naturalized as U.S. citizens in 1975.[7] Rubio's family was Catholic, but from age 8 to age 11, he and his family attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while they lived in Las Vegas. He received his first communion as a Catholic in 1984, before moving back to Miami with his family a year later. He was confirmed and married in the Catholic Church.[8][1][9][10][11]
********** His parents came here legally did they not??? But they did not flee Castro you are correct on this. Rubio was not born of US citizens so not natural born
No one is starving in Mexico. Why don't you look up starvation in Mexico and Guatemala. Mexico is far from the poorest 3rd world country. Illegal immigrants come here to elevate themselves illegally instead of waiting their turn to legally immigrate
Oh he’s well past the STFU moment. Loves the sound of his own voice. Typical of a rookie - gets full of oneself.
"No one is starving in Mexico."
No one at all? There aren't ANY starving people in Mexico?
How about Latin America, generally (which was the area to which I referred) - you don't think that there are ANY people coming illegally to the United States from Latin America who are starving or in danger of starving, or otherwise in life-threatening circumstances as a result of poverty, in their home country?

Great....and Rubio is the V.P. likelihood?
At least McCain had enough respect for conservatives to pick a conservative v.p.
“Anchor baby” is a pejorative term for a child born in the United States to immigrant parents, who, as an American citizen, supposedly can later facilitate immigration for relatives. ... The term is often used in the context of the debate over illegal immigration to the United States to refer to children of illegal immigrants, but could also be used in a similar sense outside of that context to refer to the child of any immigrant “when the child’s birthplace is thought to have been chosen in order to improve the mother’s or other relatives’ chances of securing eventual citizenship.”

Latin America is a bit irrelevant because the bulk of our Hispanic illegal aliens are from Mexico/Central America. Our problem is illegals from those nations not illegals from Latin America. Mexico has no starvation. Guatemala might have some. At any rate we are a sovereign nation with defined borders and they should be prevented from crossing them illegally and this should have been done years ago
Same as you don’t like people walking across your yard without permission then entering your house without permission then opening your refrigerator and eating your food without permission.
We had very little illegal immigration in 1950. We should return to that.
The real meaning is being born to illegal alien parents who then figure they are non-deportable because they are anchored here by an anchor baby
Marco Rubio parents were legal immigrants so he was not an anchor baby
