New Line/Warner Bros Rock Of Ages (3,470 theaters) is falling to earth with a thud. Which Hollywood expected because the pic had been tracking poorly for weeks (and even went down at one point week to week). The studio felt the 1980s period piece was a hard sell to younger moviegoers. I suspect the problem was casting. Russell Brand has been repellant to moviegoers, while Tom Cruise as iconic rocker proved just too incredulous for audiences.

I saw Snow White last night. Charlize was great, but Kristen Stewart and her permanent sneer ruined the majority of that movie for me.
The information at that link is a put on, right?

I thought Charlize was the standout performance too.
“Spoiler” here so anyone who cares be warned:
Alec Baldwin (wasn’t he going to leave the country way back when?) and Russell Brand discover they’re homosexually attracted to each other and have a graphic and sloppy on-screen kiss. Yechhhhhhh.
These two and their scenes together are referred to by many critics as the only enjoyable and funny parts of the movie.
Cruise was middling in it but Spielberg’s ‘War of the Worlds’ was awesome.
That was the name of the Broadway show it was based on which was a big hit. It’s also an obvious reference to the Def Leppard song.
Sandler was in a terrific film called ‘Punch Drunk Love’.
It was not awesome if you have any scientific knowledge of reality, and then realize that who ever wrote the script was not intelligent enough to screw in a light bulb. For instance if you remember when EMP destroyed his car starter. He put in a new starter and drove on. Well a car starter is the last thing that EMP would destroy. So it was just maddening. I can’t stand movies that are cheap on common sense and play on people being stupid. The script was written for one thing and that was to Showboat Cruise. It was so obvious. I will never watch that movie again. The black and white one was better.
The same is true with the new version of “The day the Earth stood Still”. The newer version had no sensible story to hold it together. It was purely about effects. And what a stupid ending.
I still can't believe they played a cut by Uriah Heep, and TWO by Black Oak Arkansas! Gotta LOVE Jim "Dandy" Mangrum! It was like they raided my bedroom for the records I had on my shelf!

“How many times can you make Snow White?”
It seems quite a few. Recently saw Snow White & The Huntsman (3D) and thought it was quite good. Once Upon a Time, is one of the best shows on TV in years!
Many here are dumping all over Tom Cruise, while raving about Charlize Theron, the leftist Bi ch in Hollywood. I think she is a great actress. Not too hard on the eyes either. (Obama, Moochell, and Ellen would have appreciated that last sentence).
I will not watch anything with the pervert Woody Allen in it. I'm not much for comedies and he is a vile human being. I have no idea about his politics and don't care.
Appreciate artists for their talents. Enjoy their work. Just don't vote for them.
Yeah, there was absolutely positively no reason to remake that classic.
Hollywood just plain sucks.
Michael Rennie, now that is what an actor is.
Not the dude from Bill and Teds Bogus Adventure.
The recent WOTW had numerous haunting sequences and great extended action scenes. It also had a sad tone which people were not expecting. It was informed by the cultural memory of 9/11. Mood is more important than logic in a thriller.
I met him, my girl and I spent the weekend at his house in the late 80's.
His name was Aaron Russo, good guy, tax protestor, patriot, used to be married to Bette Midler and ran a big rock club in the 70's in Manhattan.
Google him, he made some interesting documentaries before his untimely passing a few years back.
I've found that incredulous since the casting.
A character known for his height and size and face that shows the scars of fights . . . which comes into play frequently in every plot . . . and Cruise gets the role.
By the way, the character Reacher grew up the son of a Marine, but he was a U.S. Army Military Policeman (reaching the rank of Major) through and through.
What scared you, precognition or advertisements that target you as you walk through the subway?
Amen! It’s bad enough Dee Snider is singing for Stanley Steemer.
