New Line/Warner Bros Rock Of Ages (3,470 theaters) is falling to earth with a thud. Which Hollywood expected because the pic had been tracking poorly for weeks (and even went down at one point week to week). The studio felt the 1980s period piece was a hard sell to younger moviegoers. I suspect the problem was casting. Russell Brand has been repellant to moviegoers, while Tom Cruise as iconic rocker proved just too incredulous for audiences.

Alec Baldwin is great in my favorite haunted house movie, Beetlejuice.
I stand corrected. I thought Mike Love died a few years back as well.
I knew Brian Wilson was still alive and found that kind of ironic (his drug days)
I liked Collateral . Esp of Cruise in the alley and the muggers take his briefcase.
Terrific pistolero action.
No kidding. They spend hundreds of millions of dollars developing this for decades, and some genius decided against calling it ‘John Carter of Mars?’
Personally I would have called it John Cater & The Princess of Mars, but either title is better than simply John Carter.
Very good movie. It deserved better.
Faux nostalgia for the way it never was, a few kicks and jabs at Christianity, and the continued selling of filth. I hope the movie loses money. Pi$$ on holier-than-thou-wood.
I believe Jeff Head or The Looking Soon could do it.

I had a couple of days off and watched all of Firefly and Serenity (along with Dollhouse another Joss Whedon creation). At the end of Firefly, I was very disappointed there was not more. Great cast, interesting story, and plenty of opportunity to expand. Just when you get familiar with the back story and see characters develop (I’m thinking River especially and a few villains like the bounty hunter towards the end - Jubal?), they cancel it! BTW - I never saw it when it originally aired and don’t even remember any promotion for it.
Firefly is cancelled and yet we have hours and hours of reality TV garbage and the same cop & lawyer shows from every major metro area. Can’t wait for CSI El Paso and Law and Order SUV to appear.
Thanks to Netflix and other online options, the TV is rarely turned on these days. As for movies, I look for the unusual. I get so tired of the remakes and formula flicks. Give me something (somewhat) original, please!
BTW - Aren’t Christians the bad guys in the Rock of Ages movie? Another reason I will not waste my time or money.
My guess is someone in Hollywierd got stoned, watched "Bubba Ho Tep" and came up with a GREAT IDEA FOR A MOVIE!!!!

I’d rather watch “Dazed and Confused” on Netfilx or Amazon Prime. At least the music are the original cuts. And it was a look back at my life, as a high school freshman in 1975

Actually, I'm a huge late 80's-early 90's "hair" band fan. I particularly love the Sunset strip bands, but I dug the whole scene. You can also call it sleaze rock, glam rock, or just good ol' hard rock, but whatever you call it, I will NOT be seeing this abomination of a movie.
My major complaint about "Dazed and Confused" was that the soundtrack was TOO good!. That movie made it seem like everywhere you went in the 70's there was awesome music playing. I mean literally everywhere any character went, there was a killer song in the backround. I found this frustrating, actually, because anyone who was around in the '70 knows that this wasn't the case. All I ever heard in public in the 70's (and yes, I was young at the time, but I remember this) was total CRAP!
That being said, I recommend the movie for the music alone.
“Dazed and Confused” captured that era perfectly.
I feel the same way about both Firefly and Dollhouse. At least Joss had a chance to try to tie up the loose ends with Dollhouse, though it seemed a bit forced. But the way Firefly was shut down still pisses me off. And certain things that happened in Serenity upset me too, though I won't mention them in case anyone reading this hasn't seen it (doubtful, this IS FR!).
IMHO, Firefly was one of the very best written TV shows ever, up there along with early ER and Hill Street Blues at their best. But for me, the most interesting character I wanted to see more about was Book. He was quite the enigma.
Finally, a show I've grown to love is "Castle," which has occasional nods to Firefly. And next season, it will be featuring Tamoh Penikot (sp?) who played Paul Ballard on Dollhouse (and Helo on Battlestar Galactica!)

“Bubba Ho Tep” ROCKED!
I agree, it was excellent. The best of the M:I movies.
Maybe kids would have gone if they had used a younger cast, but Alec Baldwin is a major turn-off. He can manage television comedy, I guess, but few people would go to a theater to see Baldwin in a movie. He doesn't bring in either an older or a younger audience.
Russell Brand -- definitely annoying to an older audience. Tom Cruise wasn't much in evidence in the preview, and I heard he's not as prominent in the movie as some people have heard.
