Okay, maybe that wasnt the best metaphor, but he fumbled an important opportunity. The problem with the presidents amnesty decree is not that it makes it more difficult to reach that long-term solution because an executive order is, of course, just a short-term matter it can be reversed by subsequent presidents. The problem is that its u-n-c-o-n-s-t-i-t-u-t-i-o-n-a-l. You would expect Allen West and Steve King to be forceful in denouncing this usurpation, but even Amnesty John McCain and Rick you dont have a heart Perry were strong. Heck, Lindsey Graham Lindsey Graham denounced the move as possibly illegal. And the fact that Romney didnt answer when asked if hed reverse the order is an especially bad sign.
I know all those whove been accusing me of being in the tank for Romney will say I told you so, but my distress isnt really about his views on the policy issue at hand he seemed to endorse Rubios as-yet-not-introduced revision of the DREAM Act, which Im pretty sure I wont like. Im appalled because this is a fundamental matter of our political order

In other words, you're going to give him a 'do-over' after he gave a typically liberal answer to the question.
Smart.
The Bishop has proxies to bark at the intruder. It’s enough for now.
Romney was my last choice.
However, I’m not sure that President Reagan would have shot back immediately. As I said in a pevious post, given Mitt’s nature he might send the attack dogs first.
I will be listening to see if he responds in the manner he probably should. Or is he responds at all.
Ah....the whole Romney is a racist bit? Look.....Romney is already called a racists by the Dems and media and even if he is to pander to the Hispanics, which I think he will eventually do, he still will be called anti-Hispanic and a racists. If Mitt thinks he can play “prevent defense” and try not to lose the race, he will lose the race that obviously he thinks he got in the bag
What do you think Reagan's first response would have been? Or for that matter, any principled conservative?
When a person has taken ownership of conservative principles, they don't mis-speak when asked questions like these. They give the correct response, without hesitation, and can even expound at length about the underlying reasoning.
Romney's response was correct for the 'principles' that guide him. Those 'principles' don't mesh gears with those of conservatives, but they're a good match for those of liberals.
Thats gonna haunt phoney conservatives for the next 4 years.
Your angle is a good one. Stress the fact of all the young people who can’t find jobs. Appeal also to parents who unexpectedly have to support their kids.
If this is accepted as law, all the law-abiding companies and small businesses who have refrained from hiring illegals will now HAVE to hire them. From being fined for hiring them they will now be fined for not hiring them.
And the food is spicy enough already. If Bloombird would ban chili pepper in any food that does not traditionally contain it, I might forgive him some of his other nonsense. Arrabbiata is the only Italian sauce that is supposed to have pepper.
"Are you kidding me??? I can't say that!!"
There is a reason you (I assume) and I are not politicians.
We don’t have the subversive skills.
I should add that my basic outrage is over abuse of power. But as usual my low opinion of voter interest in any abstraction above sports analysis leads me to agree with a more tangible approach.
All the radio jocks can blabber all they want, candidates for POTUS must calculate. That’s the stupid reality of the game.
I expected better from Team Romney. Not that I think Romney has any real principled stand on the issue (I don’t) but just because this is such a great opportunity to slam Hussein. For the last few weeks TR has been sparring relentlessly and to good effect. Today Hussein led with his chin and Romney missed a great chance to send him to the moon. Mitt can make it up on Sunday, but hitting back hard today would have been much better.
Hell, a vote for Romney is a vote for liberal policies, so why should anyone be surprised that he doesn’t jump on this highly legal decree. Of course, Romney may be likely to come to out with a statement, but only after the polling data is in.
You’re missing the point. The day belongs to Obama and the democrats. This is about the statist dictator and mob rule. Will congress stand up and confront him or ket it go? I don’t have a desire to be Romney’s cheering section but he has been on offense and totally focused on the economy, jobs, taxes, Obama’s all out failure and division of the country. Doesn’t sound like he’s playing prevent defense to me. Why would he allow Obama to take him off message now? Have you seen the Rasmussen numbers this week? There is a long way to go and he is not only taking on Obama and the Leftist Democrats, but also the entire leftist media. Right now the media is scrambling to cover Obama’s sorry butt and they aren’t doing a good job of it.
Obama is in panic mode with this move and it is already backfiring. I will agree with you that Romney is not a great candidate but he is playing offense in this race.
This was a huge flunk on Mitt's part. Conservatives are already worried that he's not made of the right stuff, and many are looking to his record (which is decidedly liberal) to gauge the man.
A weak and incorrect answer on a subject so near and dear to the hearts of conservatives, just fuels the perception that he's far from being in alignment with patriotic, conservative America, whom he MUST draw to him, if he's going to win this thing.
Too many more oopsies like this, and he'll lose more of the conservative vote than he can afford to.
what would Reagan say?
“candidates for POTUS must calculate. Thats the stupid reality of the game.”
The Obamunist Democrat plan, ALL ALONG, has been to create chaos, division, and racial tension. They NEED the Hispanics in the street and p**sed off, like they were in 2006, if Obama has any chance at all to win.
