WASHINGTON -- Republican Sen. Marco Rubio-- whose reaction to the Obama administration’s immigration order will likely be one of the most closely watched of his party-- issued a carefully worded statement Friday that called for helping young illegal immigrants but criticized the president’s approach.
“There is broad support for the idea that we should figure out a way to help kids who are undocumented through no fault of their own, but there is also broad consensus that it should be done in a way that does not encourage illegal immigration in the future,” the Florida senator said. “This is a difficult balance to strike, one that this new policy, imposed by executive order, will make harder to achieve in the long run.
“Today’s announcement will be welcome news for many of these kids desperate for an answer, but it is a short-term answer to a long-term problem,” he added. “And by once again ignoring the Constitution and going around Congress, this short-term policy will make it harder to find a balanced and responsible long-term one.”

Legalizing them 'temporarily' will just guarantee that there will be no opposition to making them citizens when that time comes.
And once made citizens all the rest of the illegals in their families 30 years old and up are safe at home, as well.

Read it again. He does not say its a GOOD short term solution, just that its a short term solution. That’s a brilliant splicing of words, he did NOT endorse the action, yet at the same time, he does not aggresively alienate hispanic voters.
The future of conservatism in this country depends on convincing as many people as possible of the merits of conservatism, regardless of which box they check.
It would take the ACLU about 15 seconds to file suit stating that these immigrants were being treated different than other immigrants. Rubio’s stipulation would be worth about as much as the paper it was written on, certainly less than two cents.

Here’s something you might like to see. It’s a poll on the Washington Post. 68% of the poll respondents disagree with Obama’s intent related to the children of illegal immigrants.
Rubio just applauded Obama’s flippant regard of Federal law.

BTW, nobody called you a name. I said making a statement like that will make people think you’re ignorant and will affect your credibility. “Ignorant” is not a name; it’s not even a noun. It’s an adjective. See, the more you say, the more you prove me correct.
However, I do think you make a legitimate argument that if they are allowed to remain they are benefiting from the illegal activity of their parents. That is a real concern also.
The main point of Rubio is that the weighing of these type issues and determination of the best course of action is up to congress and not for the president to impose on his own. I still think that his statement was correct in bringing that up. Ultimately, your point may prevail and I would accept that it is a valid basis for not granting any benefits. I just don't think Obama's governing by fiat is that right way to decide.

Hell, Rubio DID have even that Marxist-leaning COONS from Delaware convinced—they had a bipartisan bill that Harry Reid wouldn’t bring to the floor.
The bottom line is we have to fight Obamugabe in the courts and at the ballot box right now. We are doing, apparently and hopefully successfully so, in SCOTUS.
The last major election in 2010 showed we were winning. So now we have to keep persuading and working for five more months....and bollocks up (is that spelled right?) his agenda in the House and Senate.

One more thing: quit looking at how the MAINSTREAM MEDIA (eg LA Times, etc.) are reporting Rubios remarks...of COURSE they will try to show Rubio is “on board”...they want Obamugabe to be loved.
The conservative press, on the other hand, seem to be reporting Rubio’s words IN CONTEXT and not as a way to praise Obamugabe.

I view government as our Founders viewed government -- as a necessary EVIL.

EVERY single serious problem that our Republic faces has been caused by government at all levels. People who have sought public office over the decades have ignored our beloved Constitution and have passed programs that have eaten away at our wealth and spirit. almost always, via incrementalism and gradual change and persuasion
We have gotten to this point via incremental Socialism. I have studied the our Founders, the works of Von Mises, Hayek, Friedman and others.
The collective sum of their wisdom would compel any rational human to realize that it is wholly impossible to to "incrementally", "gradually" work our way back towards Liberty and smaller government.
Without a doubt only through some catastrophic series of events or by direct action by the several States can we ever hope to seriously roll back the Federal government's power. It will never come about by action at the Federal level.
It is my belief that some action(s) by the Federal government will finally compel a sufficient number of States to act and render the Federal government insolvent and without authority. Only then can the Federal government truly be brought back within strict Constitutional limits. To be successful the Federal rollback has to happen over a short period of time (a few years max).
Until such time, both parties will play political theater with our destiny. Congress will continue to authorize spending that will increase the national debt each year. The Federal bureaucracy will continue to issue rules and regulations to control all aspects of our lives. Liberal judges at all levels will continue to issue rulings that increase the power of the State over the individual.
Our Founders clearly knew we would get to the point that our Federal government would border on tyrannical -- they just didn't think we would last this long.
This isn't pessimism, this isn't conspiracy -- it's just looking at the reality of government in a cold, objective manner.

Rubio’s bill would create a new class of visa for illegal aliens brought here as children. I said that it’s *like* a student visa (and it is, since it doesn’t create a path to citizenship), but it isn’t a student visa like the one that exists today. IIRC, the special visa would also allow the recipient to work in the U.S., but it is not a green card (so it would not create a path to citizenship) nor is it an H1B visa (so it wouldn’t depend on an employer requesting the visa for the recipient).
Is it really that difficult for you to understand that what Rubio is proposing is something new? You keep demonizing what Rubio has proposed and said without even taking the time to read and think about it.
And now you insult not just Senator Rubio, but me. No, I did not join FR in November 2002 (I signed up right after the general election (but before the Senate runoff in LA) after having lurked for awhile) so as to become an “agent provocateur” for liberals 10 years later. It’s funny how you reflexively insult me and accuse me of being a liberal, when I’ve consistently said that *I don’t even like Rubio’s bill*. However, I recognnize (having read polls and not sticking my head in the sand) that it’s smart politics for him to cut the Democrats off at the pass and propose something that takes the whole “those poor kids brought here through no fault of their own” meme away from the Democrats without creating a path to citizenship, which is why the Democrats (particularly Obama) will do anything to stop the bill from getting to the floor.

I don’t disagree with you, but I also recognize that it’s not good politics to deport an 18-year-old brought here illegally when he was 2 years old. Right now, those kids aren’t getting deported, and the amnesty folks use them as poster children to try to create a path to citizenship for illegal aliens, so what Rubio is proposing astutely takes the poster children away from the amnesty folks (and good luck to them creating sob stories about people who crossed the border illegally of their own volition) while not creating a path to citizenship for anyone. It is very smart politics, and the Democrats know it, which is why they don’t want Rubio’s bill to get to the floor (they don’t want the GOP to get any credit, and prefer a temporary solution that will guarantee that the issue is revisited in the future, with a path to citizenship remaining on the table).
